GO is the king of the big comments. Pretty certain when the proposal to field one side was mooted he stated he wouldn't want anything to do with it....
Pinch of salt stuff imho.
BTB - fyi Glyn O is a Mortlock fan thru and thru - big time. He is also a passionate advocate of 2 Lincoln sides and has stated that many times before. And yes I can imagine him saying he wouldn't want anything to do with it if we became 1 side.
HOWEVER the reason he changed his mind and applied for and got the coaching job this year was to do with a personal agenda. That is if the players and support staff were totally committed (and that is very evident by the preparation by himself, David Hawes etc and the players, and then the performance on the weekend by the players) that Port Lincoln, with one side, would be far to strong.
It was not a glory hunting thing, it was his way of proving that Port Lincoln was big enough and strong enough to field 2 sides and that if we didn't we would wipe the opposition. Point proven. I believe this will continue to be the case in the future.
Gee we have had 2 sides for a long time before the last couple of years and the performance by Lincoln Districts at least was ok for most of that time. The laughing stock you talk about was indeed Lincoln City. Not the case anymore I feel. As you know there were only 5 odd who were district lads and if Lincoln City had played, my bet is they would have still won it convincingly. The commitment by the City lads has taken a dramatic turn for the better and represents a changing of the guard perhaps.
I think you will find that Glyn would be more than happy to coach Lincoln Districts again even if they were a fair bit weaker than City, such is his passion for them. By the way I think he is an excellent coach.
