We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

How could you justify giving up $400 or $500 a week??? Think about your child John!

I've emailed the central div program to colliver at countryfooty.com.au but it hasn't been posted yet.

It looks like Lofty plays Onkas on the friday of ANZAC day at Lofty.

Looking forward to Lofty-IB under lights May 31st!

Looks like a typo on there, I assume the weekend off is July 12?

Interesting draw from Ironbank point of view the 4 away games straight, in the middle of the season will be the telling games. If they can get through these with 2 and 2 then the finish of 3 home games may be useful.

Yeah you'd assume so Banker... more importantly has any team ever played away 4 weeks in a row!!!

Ironbank will be this year from May 24 - June 21... although compensated with last 3 minor round games at home, 4 in a row away (at anytime of the season) is a bit much... good time for the deck to recover from any heavy raines etc. I suppose... perhaps they should have given that draw to the Mt Ronnie's (around mid-season) after last years surface debacle???

There must be some dollars in this league with some of the players that have been signed up by some of the clubs

You're not wrong Ruck Legend, who specifically though are you referring to? hahandorf have Matt Cooper but he's played their previously. Floreani was at the Devils last year and may well be this year. Uraidla has Ebert and others. Bridgwater had Kluzek, he's now gone.

Definately a bit of money floating around, but it's driven through sponsorship and hard working volunteers. Clubs have come to realise if you work that bit harder, you can buy that extra player or two which gets the club up and running and drives success.

Clubs have to work harder to make bigger dollars otherwise the better players on the lookout for dollars go to the south-east or outer country leagues. Gone are the days of a little travel money!
The points system may even push up dollar values as clubs need to selective recruit to get the type of player they need

Say what you will, but it is very sad that this is the truth of Country Football these days. I cannot understand how blokes who train once or twice a week expect cash to play footy. Doesn't matter how good you are. Having played both Div 1 and Div 2 footy I can say the standard of Div 1 may be significantly better than Div 2, but the enjoyment of the game isn't. We now play in times where just about all A Graders expect something for their services, whether they be locals or whoever.

Assuming there are no clubs in Hills that don't pay players (and I include 'petrol' money in that), does anyone know of clubs that genuinely don't pay for any players. Do they exist?

I honestly do not beleive any club (Apart from some University and Old Scholars clubs) do not pay their players in some way.Even clubs in div 7 would look after their good players in some way. Some times I hear the odd bloke bragging "Oh we dont pay our players, but were playing SAAFL div 2,3".What an absolute load of crap, even if they don't pay them they would look after those players/ coaches in some way. The fact is unless your involved high up in the committee you would not know exactly how the club is run. If you did not financially look after at least 2-3 players a week you would be getting results like the Southern Hawks and even I beleive they were looking after a few players last year. Its not just the way footy is going, its the way society in general is going in that not many people do anything for free any more.......

Hahndorf have broken the bank. How can they afford Bishop, Howman and Nicholas on top of Cooper and Kaesler? That equals big $$$$$. Would that be the most spent by any team?

Kersbrook have been genuinely known as the biggest amateurs for some time in Hills Footy. But with the strongest Kersbrook side in recent time finishing 4th last year and with no juniors also, can't say that will always be the case.
