HFL Division 1 (Central)

Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

From what I've read and heard it looks like it will be the most even and open competition next year in Central Division for quite some time. It sounds like 7 clubs will be vying for spots in the final 5 with Lobethal, Bridgy & Birdwood likely not to be in the running.

Interesting to read comments today in the courier in retalliation to the president lashing out at the courier at the recent AGM.

Does he have the support or confidence of any clubs? Anyone from anywhere could have run against him at the recent AGM and would have won. It's disappointing no one did.

I think everyone would agree with Pistola's comments made in the courier today. I would like write a tirade on here but for fear having my post withdrawn like Plunge Penguin did I wont.

Also sad to read in the courier today that Trigger underwent a knee reco yesterday and will miss the entire '08 season.

Yeah terrible luck for Trigger, one of the toughest, fairest and best players in the comp. Never seen the guy abuse an ump or resort to dirty s*#t against an opponent, just worries about the footy. Apparently the surgery wen't well and apart from the ACL there was no other real damage done in the knee. Hopefully he has a quick and seamless recovery and is back out there in '09. Also, you gotta comend him for getting back out onto the field after smashing his knee in the GF. He may be a paid player but that effort showed tremendous passion and committment to his club, the sort that money can't buy.

Are you sure Cooper is a former junior.... I thought he only went to the club when he was 19 or 20 or so..... big difference between 1 and 4 points

I can guarantee you cooper is a former junior, he played in darwin when in under 12s and played 17s with Hahndorf.

I'm not sure I dare ask this question, but given its a request for someone to reprint a factual article, could someone put the gist of what was written please? Pistols is the sort of bloke who calls it straight and at least he would say what many were thinking.

Again, I'm very, very reluctant to even write this piece, but it sounds like bad manners on the part of the person in question to lash out at a body that has given the HFL a lot of free publicity over the years.

If any mod has an issue with this, then please PM me at least with the reasons. Thanks

Hope I don't get the plug pulled on me too PP. Pistol's article is too long to reprint here; you'll need to get a Courier. The story was superbly written, totally factual and was basically a comment on the right of the press to report acurately and fairly on a very newsworthy situation. Pistols certainly does speak for many when he comments that Mr. Lamshed has "taken a swipe at freedom of speech" and articulates the entire situation as it is. Quote "Despite being a major financial sponsor and supporter of the HFL, this newspaper will not 'go soft' on issues because the HFL President doesn't like them. or they reflect poorly on the league". The article ends thus:- "Mr. Lamshed told the AGM 'if anybody here can tell me what appeared in The Courier two weeks ago did the Hills Football League any good, then I will go chase rabbits for the rest of my life.' Pistols states "that remark could be timely as sections of the local footballing community - on and off the field - may well be getting sick of being treated like bunnies"
My own standpoint on this growing debacle is well known here and I speak from experience when I say I and many lost patience with the President years ago. Like Ted Bullpitt, I could write a tirade on here too but will refrain. As I see it, Owen should stand down. Another alternative is for the clubs to use the Constitution and vote "no confidence" at the next AGM. I fail to see how anyone could still hold on so tightly to the reins when it's abundantly clear most clubs want him to leave. The clubs form the League after all. So Owen thinks the Courier's comments are "not good for the League". I think Owen is not good for the league.

I'm no fan of Owen's, but didn't the clubs just have their chance to put someone new in?? If they dislike him so much they are all weak for not coming together and finding someone.

Excellent point and one which seems to have been forgotten. As always in these situations, everybody waits for someone else to put their hand up. Owen chose to do this job for free, but perhaps it's time the League looked at an honorarium for such a big portfolio. Perhaps it might attract the right person.

I agree the clubs need to fund a full time paid HFL president. I believe some people would have nominated for president but where worried re the repucusions for their club. Pistols, Julie Carman have already been ridiculed for trying to do their best for the HFL.

Anyone know if Zillante is going around with Uraidla again? He had the physique and athleticism to play SANFL footy and beyond- he just could never put it together. A couple of sessions with a pyschologist early on and he would have played 100 games of SANFL footy by now..

Well as has been said the clubs had their oppurtunity and no one chose to stand. We are all just going to have to grin and bare it and get on with things. Should make for an interesting season of off field politics.

All is not lost. The clubs can call for a Special Meeting anytime if they wish to vote "no confidence". The League must comply if this happens.

Heard the same thing about TV. GH took some recently signed recruits for a bender, and of course fitted the bill. Not sure how those 35 points are going to work with his Club. We were always worried that if Battams and other mercenaries didn't commit to TV next season, that they would actually get some half decent footballers that CAN play. This seems to be the case with some apparent 'Big' Signings.

haha...well considering battams and the other mercenaries, (who are apparently less than half decent?!!) have won 2 out of the last 3 premierships, i'd say they are doing ok...as if kersbrook wouldn't welcome most of those players with open arms!
