On Kilburn I here daniel Thomas is heading up BLG way in 07- he will be a huge pick up for anyone up there

Heard that this will be occa's last year at BD. Has ben offered the sturt job next year as Duane Massey in now the footy manager and wants occa bad. McGowan onlt told he has 1 year...no finals = no job. Step right in occoner.

I would find it highly unlikely if Macgowan got the sack for not taking sturt to the finals in his first year at the helm. Firstly because he comes highly regarded and i wouldnt of thought Oconner was going to get a SANFL league gig!! How many coaches go from country to league without doing a small apprentiship with the Magoos??

Yeah but how many go from DIV 1 straight into league. Jarman/Phillips/Weed/HILL.Occoner allready been succesfull at A1 without winning a premiership.

Met him whilst he was playing in the riverland. Very nice fella, exept when he flopped out his old fella in a piece of bread and asked me if i wanted a sausage sandwich .

Sounds like Lizard's MO

Footy Fan - ill tell you I was bloody good!!
Rumours of Occa at Sturt a big- he would want to have improved as a coach (justify by saying great bloke)- my experience is that he is a bit rant and rave and really struggled with solid game plan and didn't adapt well when faced with good tacticians from the opposition- hence maybe why Div 1 success eluded him?
Heard a strong rumour Steven Hann may be returning to South Gawler

down and out
oconner not my favourite person either
but i did play under him and his game plan is solid, his knowledge of opposition is better than any coach i played under, tactically the best also
his game plan cant be that bad has got a premiership and sides into finals, and yes some of the side should have gone further
also rant and rave not sure about that is pretty quiet except when you stuff up then he certainly lets you know about it
as for leauge...no way but would be a great assistant at that level
overall as much as i hate to say it because he did drop me in a final and i will never forgive him for that and basically i left that club i had played at for 7 years i would have to admit now i am a bit more mature would be the best coach i have ever played under and that opinion is shared by the majority of players he has coached

why not get off o'connor and get onto something that is constructive
barossa and light has more to talk about than this subject
i believe 2007 will be exciting and better than 2006
willaston will be the side....have recruited new and past players back to the club at least 10
barossa will still be there even though loosing quite a few quality players
freeling have lost players but will be still a contender....can they mentally get over last year
kapunda with a fully fit list will do well
centrals with a new coach will start slow but will be cominhg home
south after last year have picked up some handy ones, is it true coombes is back if so herzick hasnt been true to his word
tanunda interesting will they live up to their ability
nuri.....improvers
angaston...in for long year
cooke from kapunda .......leading goalkicker
mccarthy kapunda to recapture 2005 form and win another medal to his trophy cabinet
what do others think on the predictions

151 the deal is that you can talk about what ever you want- personally I couldn't give a stuff about BLG!!
I must have made plenty of mistakes in my time and have fading memory because when Occa coached me I wasn't that impressed with his game day tactics- and he ripped me a couple of times- even though as I keep saying I got on well with him and respect his football knowledge and contacts!

151, this is not just about your thoughts mate any one can say what they want!!

As down and out said he is a rant and rave coach and not much of a tactician, by all reports he actually tries to buy a premiership everywhere he goes, then the locals start to get disheartened!!

Oh well see what happens, but i do agree that his knowledge of players in SA is as good as any and maybe he might be more suited to a recruiting scout role!!

Footyfan - great point, he would make a good scout. No harm to the bloke, just have to know your strengths and weaknesses. Hard part is getting the best out of good players and improving the next tier.

Down & Out - why are you on the BL&G thread if you dont give a stuff about the BL&G - not trying to be a smart arse, maybe I miss read?

Gawler Centrals new coach will either go top or dead last. Some good players still in his mix but they have all been favourites and played under milky for a while now, some would say they might not adapt. The new coach though did have some trouble at Seaton, they tossed him out after he took them to a GF. Intersting one to watch.

McCarthy's knee allegedly no good according to a Bombers player i spoke to Sunday. May make a late start to the season, or possibly not at all.

Every coach is made aware of the clubs budget, every coach has the final say on recruits (in the main). Most coaches outside league footy know who to attract and therefor throw shite loads of cash at targetted players. Hence the term - Buy a Premiereship

footy fan.....i understand those thoughts
but if a club has say $25k as a budget how then does occer but the premiership
buying a premiership to me would be then spending say 40k which is 15k over the budget
surely the club wouldnt keep him on for any longer then if he did do that
i also heard that he doesnt get involved in the money situation at all with players

Are you directing that at me or footy fan?

I can tell you that 90% of the coach's I have played and been paid under 'state' that they stay out of the money talks, but they know exactly what is going on and who is getting what on all occasions.
There's more than money to attract players and the salary cap is a guide for most clubs with good sponsors, especially country. More money and purks pass through hands than what is outlined in the salary cap.

Clubs in the BL&G that seem to only come good every couple of years and then languish the rest
Angaston... Barossa... Freeling or maybe the players at those clubs rest a lot and then just try once every two years.

The Barossa has a import rule and a quota on the numbers you can have,so surely there must be doubt on the idea you can get heaps of players in so buying a premiership would be hard to do wouldnt it ?????????
Torrens Valley i understand did that a couple of years ago in the Hills Leauge

Response to Mark where are the now
Mark Jones and Glen Russell had some mighty battles in their A1 days
I reckon the score finished
Jones one and Rusty 4 which included a premiership medal
Russell definately had it over him and in saying that Jones was a very good player
Russell also a all Australian, and i think would still get a kick at Kilburn
Running out of half back and then the booming left foot kick was a real pleasure to watch

Ahhh good point. Must admit though the clubs outside of gawler get more imports and the quality of these imports depends on the money and the average of 25K doesnt buy much once you get an Agrade coach, pay locals etc.
