As an outsider, I've always wondered why the BL&G have the two semi-finals over two weekends? Surely it disadvantages the higher ranked team that loses the 2nd Semi, when the team who finishes 3rd or 4th gets the week off before the prelim? Can't see any logic in it myself.

I said the same thing to a mate that used to play there. He said, only one match per weekl = more people to each match = more $$$ for the league.

Can't make that much more can it? Surely you'd go to a final regardless of whether it's on a Saturday or Sunday. I did the double twice this year, watching neutral games on a Saturday and C Grade games on the Sunday, and so did a lot of other people.

The BLG get crowds of 1000+ that pay to get in to watch finals throughout the day.

If you have kids that play on separate days either netball or football it starts to cost a bit of money in one weekend and if your involved with the club that hosts it this becomes a very long weekend for parents.

$2K would be a conservative figure on gate takings alone. The club that hosts the sunday would make less money than the one on sat.

I don't think the 1 sat final concept is right for the football and netball at A Grade level but its understandable when all things are considered.

sunday footy is just not right in the country. (2 games on a weekend)
- if you play on a saturday, are you going to volunteer to help on the sunday?? (if your hosing a final)
- % of country people attend church
- if you watch footy on the sunday, will the missus let you go on sunday as well??
(especially after watching friday night footy on the tv)
- bar takings much less on a sunday, as people (most) have to work monday

I am an outsider to this league, and come form a league that plays Sat Sun finals with a Top 5 system the same as the SANFL. I understand all the financial benefits listed to back up the 'Split Round' of Saturday finals, but surely in the end doesn't fairness on the football field matter more? It does seem to me to be completely unfair for a lower placed club to have an extra weeks rest going into a final, in which either side would be eliminated if they lose. Couldnt they swap round the intial 2 finals? Or do the top sides prefer the week off after the minor round?

the problem with having the top 2 sides play in the first week is that the winner goes straight to the GF and will have to have 2 weeks off...

Yeah thats definately an issue, i guess pick between the three. Lower placed side getting advantage over higher placed, or one of the higher placed sides having a very big advantage. Or everything fair on the field (I take if you finish higher you deserve an advantage as being fair), with a bit less income from the games. Obviously the league made their choice, with some input from the clubs i assume.

I understand the bar takings might be a bit less, but if you were a player or coach of a team that finished in the top two and lost the 2nd Semi, how happy would you be playing a lower-ranked team that has had a week off? I paid to get in twice a weekend over two weekends this year, and I'm a uni student. Either way, the same amount of games get played, so I'm not sure how the money thing makes a difference?

Easy way to fix the issue with the finals and which day to play is to have a top five and have the same system as the SANFL, that way you have to earn the right to have the week off over the finals and the current gain of winning in the first week of the finals and getting the week of would be removed, after all have the same number of teams as the SANFL.

Sorry to hear about the import at the Freeling, sounds very messy Good Luck Prousey

Do Kapunda still play in our comp. never hear anything about them, they do have internet in Kapunda. don't they......

BLG clearance web site up and runing for the 2009 season, looks like Adam Spencer from Barossa is in Darwin playing with Cameron " Built like Tarzan plays like Jane" Roberts.

Hear what your saying about Kapunda Brad man. Milligans pretty astute, there would be something happening, were just not hearing about it. He has good connections. Did you guys have a similar issue with a complicated import like Freeling's recently, even if not the same circumstances. I think he was a big forward from the North East

wasnt there a big full forward moving into the area for work, but he had some relationship isues that complicated it. Cant remember his name, was in the paper before Christmas. As for Dawes, I think it was done and dusted before Milligan was appointed anywhere. I assume you are talking about their Norwood connection ? Dawes and Robinson both play Gaelic with some prominent Ango boys. I think that would of helped get them across the line
