Why do they deserve better? they did it! they were out there!!

You would tend to drop off if your season was slipping away, but they controlled how they finished off and it wasn't all that flash.

I certainly dont believe they deserved better. They showed that it wasnt all that important to them in the last minor round game of the year vs TW, when they asssumed that they just had to have a win to maintain a spot in the top two. Resting players at that stage of the year is pure arrogance, and with none of the coaching staff recognising that a significant win was required, personally i thnk that they deserved what they got. Hopefully next year tehy will actually respect the opposition because i certainly dont believe they did on Sat or against TW in that last minor round game. Lack of respect will always bite you on the arse!

Look out!!

Being one of the top two sides in the association for the last 5 years earns you a little bit of arrogance. All teams drop off in the last quarter when they realise a final can't be won. Unfortunately for the Eagles, I think their (so called) dynasty might be over. What do you reckon Wedgie?
It'll be good for the competition to have a side that's not so dominate though.

im still confused. Who said they did or did not deserve better for rooster to write that post. Have i missed something.
And settle down boys, even the all conquering brisbane lions eventually lost. You seem to be having a fair dig swamp about the arrogance and and lack of respect for opposition. Longies were better and it is as simple as that. The eagles back their ability and with good reason. 01, 03, 05, 06. Maybe the shoe would be on the other foot if it wasnt 97 for you guys. And rather than having a dig about a game that no longer concerns you or the magpies run into the GF you should be focusing on a team that is playing good footy at the moment.
Whether the dynasty is over or not who knows. Hummocks are well aware that it cant and wont last forever and we have well and truly enjoyed our time in the sun. We have won our premierships, and now it is up to two new sides who would be doubting themselves at the moment. Sleepless nights, some blokes getting ahead of themselves, some blokes scared of losing and some will just take it all in their stride.
It seems you have been rather timid in your responses all year but your last couple in reference to the Hummocks may have shown your true colours and i am going to have to pull you up on them. I dont think the boys havent gone on to bigger things because they will no longer be the stars in the team. Playing SANFL is not the be all and end all and unfortunately some blokes who are more concerned about imgage than enjoyment seem to think it is. A country boy coming to the city to mix with a wish wash team where young upstarts want to get to AFL, and old blokes dont want to let go of their careers may not be what every football player strives to be a part of. The Hummocks have had success over the past years because we dont leave our comaradery on the field. Our friendships are all year round not just for a footy season like some clubs and the importance of mateship is the number one priority. Not just telling your kids i played for a league side. A few of your boys had a crack but they came running back with their tails between their legs so those in glass house need not throw stones.
As for the club holding players back well that would be the most ridiculous thing i have heard. Jericho was encouraged and he opted to stay at hummocks. He also opted to fly back from Darwin 3 weeks in a row last year to play. Dedication to the club and its cause. Maybe some of your mob and others for that matter can learn from that passion and commitment rather than detract from it by saying he could have been on an SANFL list.
Anyway, you got me worked up. Good luck Sat. Your posts of late are pushing me towards Longies, if only for the Silverchair tickets i am still on your mob

It's my fault Wedgie. I said the Eagles deserved better.

About blokes wanting to play for/with each other: The first thing I noticed when I've ventured out to a Hummocks show is the welcoming feeling you get from all the players. It's certainly a credit to your club and it shines through your on-field achievements. I can't speak for Two Wells and Mallala, but I reckon we have that same easy-going feeling at United. It doesn't (and shouldn't) matter which grade you play because you're all on the same side.

Come join the Tigers bandwagon mate, I'll even let you drive!!

Yeah well written Wedgie :) Im glad you got the approval of DW :D
Your post was written with the exact mentality of players whom i posted about. Some blokes may find this hard to believe but playing league footy is not about the opportunity to walk around like a hot shot the rest of your life after playing a game, although some blokes do, i know  Its about testing your ability against the best. Its about learning about the game form the best players and coaches, and most significantly its about the development of self discipline for the training and preparation to play at your best. Its about learning the principles of team discipline   yes team discipline. I could see why not many blokes have had a real crack if all they expect to get out of playing league footy is the chance to gloat :? :?

If you think wedgie that what i write here reflects what my mindset for this week your completey wrong in fact i couldnt care less what goes on here, i was just providing an opinion on the issue raised by droppie. After saturdays game we're fully aware of the ability of United, ordinary sides dont do that to top sides. They re the real deal, thats for certain. Should be a great day up at pecker head park.

This week has been sensational and we have a hell of a lot of work to do this week to achieve an ounce of what the eagles have achieved in recent years. Your consistency is to be admired. I was very worked up the other day and a lot of what i said was probably close but slightly off the mark. Perosnally and honestly i was just disappointed to see Hummocks bow out like they did. They are a far better side than that.

Enjoy the concert Wedgie, they re meant to be top seats.

glad we straightened that out swamp cos for a while there i thought you were having a personal dig at the eagles. I didnt think that would be the case although getting smacked from pillar to post on the score board for the past 5 years by them can leave a bitter taste in some peoples mouths. Its great the tall poppy syndrome exists in the APFL. How un Australian would we all feel if it didn't.

One thing i do wish to add is that i feel it is rather presumptious to think that guys play our great game of football to learn from the best (which there are a few coaches in the SANFL that fall far from that apple tree) and test themselves against the best. Some people have enough to worry about in personal lives, working lives and the likes that come saturday they just want a kick and a catch with their mates. A win is a bonus but a bit of sweat and a lot of beers is what it is about. Monday to friday is about discipline, saturday is about fun. If we take the fun out of life we arent left with a lot to live for. :(

Quite a few Hummocks boys have been down to town but are realistic in their abilities and rather than get lost in the system of reserves football they came back to their roots, in more ways than one

Now, you are about to embark on an exciting adventure and i envy you for that. Its good to hear you are focused and dont really care about this forum. I think we all agree it is a bit of fun and if work pay for us to do it all the better :D Get excited sun, the weather is great, there is that spring smell in the air. The big crowds, the fan fair and the focus all on that 2:45 game. (no offense B grade but lets be honest the club is judged on the A grade performance whether we like it or not)

Unfortunately only one side will be tasting success come 5pm. But here is a tip, whatever team wants it more may be their undoing :? Ra ra ra does not do you justice in these games. I recommend a sedative, stay cool and relaxed and maybe a pinch of EPO

Smack on mate...except im not quite at the tall poppy stage mate and i never will be. Im certainly not providing my opinions due to our performance this year either (that would be showing a bit of arrogance)
Your probably right about the committment issue at playing at higher level. Each to thier owm but trying to play at such a level requires discipline monday to friday too. Surely you can understand that hearing that sort of mentality from blokes ("just wanna get pissed and have fun with me mates", "the training is too hard") that have what it takes to play league footy, is frustrating. I think a footy purist would agree. I have no regret about the track i took, having had a crack now i can see what all the fuss is about. Country footy is a great lifestyle.
We must catch up more often, it'd be uncomfotable for a modest blokes like myself as a tall poppy . Maybe ill reassess if we have managed 5 or 6 flags in 7 or 8 years :D

Heard from a hot source on United's board that Schulzy may be playing for SMOSH footy club next year. Apparently he's made some pretty good mates down that way and the club's offered him some money to front up next year. Rumour is he's close to taking it (or seriously considering it). Big blow for the Tigers! :(

3 Out for United in the Grand Final.

United are forced to make 3 late changes to their side that defeated the Eagles in the Prelim final. Into the side comes Sharman, Warrior and Calyan. The Magpies very much remain firm favorites with this latest news.

Start's Prediction - United by 28 points. - Ben Sobey for BOG, Will Serle to kick 6.
