Yes, I only know about football and the season shouldn't be changed to suit 2 clubs as it stands it all fits in well with the AFL program. Maybe who plays who could be looked at it, but i am sure that has been done. Clubs are given sufficient time to put in a submission before the program is voted on.

Ango and nuri could try using it to their advantage and promote the game as part the festival even have sunday game.

On other news there were two new faces at the lions den last night... they will be very handy footballers... They have arrived from a league adjacent to the BLG...

Edgar 05 i think you have got it half right from what i've heard there was only one new arrival at south last night

Wouldn't be Shayne Broad by any chance, would it?

heard in the pub last night that BL&G major sponsor Grant Burge Wines is not too happy that league has no respect for a festival which has been going on for many years and from the industry in which they are involved , is it possible BL& G could soon be on the hunt for new sponsor for season 2009

Skipper, Heard that Freeling have lost young Muster to Broadview. Also if the rumour of Jake Levy playing at Freeling in 09 is true then will his joint at the hip mate Ben Catford (can seriously play) follow him. Would be two very handy pick ups with CDFC experience for the Freeling Football Club.

The pub is a great source of intel. You can go back there on friday and tell the boys that you heard it on the internet that Grant Burge understands the scheduling issue the BLG faces and is supportive of any decisions it has made.

Grant Burge also believes that this is an opportunity for the clubs to promote local footy during the festival and is pleased that people from the local football community will be drawn to Angaston during the festival.

Grant burge would also like for the barossa clubs to stop whinging to them about it and get on with it.

This is excellent news Pinch Hitter it is good to know that Grant Burge aren't thinking of pulling their sponsorship from the league . It is still a little disappointing that the Footy and Vintage Festival parade will clash though for the first time as it will have an effect on both , can see both a small crowd at the footy saturday and possibly even some of the junior games between Angaston and Tanunda being forfeited due to kids and their parents choosing to watch the parade and attend Tanunda oval etc following parade

Unlike the occasional club sponsors we have heard of Grant Burge isn't going to poke his nose into the admin affairs of the association, whether he disapproves or approves. As the businessman he is he knows that it isn't part of his brief. However as a barometer of the effect that the VF would have on the footy, perhaps PH will frame a market on these two options- 1. GB attends VF or 2. GB attends opening day lunch with Nobby at South when they play Freeling and stays for day. I'll put $10 on option 1. No matter what the odds.
I'll reiterate, just once more I hope there has been no serious suggestion of any other proposal than to play a week later (which we done before and no-one has come down with scofula), and then have the two semi finals on the same weekend ( which we have done before and no-one has come down with scrofula).
There was only one proposal presented at the AGM despite the Directors drawing up at least 6 models. Another model was submitted but was not presented because the FOM wasn't the first name on the addresses and because there wasn't a formal request!!! Despite the fact that it was submitted, I mean presented within regualtion time and was signed off by a club delegate it wasn't even tabled as correspondence. Therefore the clubs only had one proposal to vote against no proposal. If another model had suffered a defeat even 6-3 it makes an entirely different scenario. When criticised the Dirctors have said it was a club decision, but when the clubs are spoken to they say that there was only one option; the FOM & Directors preferred model!! There is a Bulldozer in the room.
A comparison can be made to a suggested Constitution amendment which was voted 5-4 which means it is 'lost' because they require a 2/3 majority. It comes from way out left field and stinks to high heaven and is a motion to exempt sons and grandsons of significant ex-players who live outside the zone from the requirements of the import laws. This is being represented because the 'result wasn't properly called'!!! Anyone who went to the AGM and didn't know that Constitutional amendments needed the 6-3 vote shouldn't have been there.
Hope your all not asleep yet but playing the first round on the 18th doesn't produce any winners so lets be sensible and do what we have done in the past.
PS Ang & Tan may have to play on Sunday. Nuri may want to, but unlikely GC will let 2 easy premiership points in 4 grades slip by also agreeing to play on the Sunday.

Apparently the Herald has announced three new signings at the den... Broad, Vandenberg and Cody ? (Key position from Whyalla - Prokopec connection).

We all know Broad and Vandenberg can play, but history tells us their commitment is somewhat questionable... will be interesting to see how Herzick influences them...
Tim Clarke was the #1 player in the AFL

Thats a lot of waffle there sunblower, hopefully you have it all out of your system and you can get on with planning the first round on the 18th April.

The competition program wins because it all fits in well with the AFL season without having to change events like finals for one season. You don't mess with a proven program of sat finals or long weekend association game bye for the sake of 1 week that potentially might mean some of the junior grades for a couple of clubs are short or not played.. the U9s - 13s don't play for points so let them have another week off.

Enuff said.

Don, Whats the latest on Ben Casey going to Willaston from Broadview. Have you managed to secure a deal with Freeling and if not why wouldn't you have used Mills as a swap. Freeling gets Mills and Willaston gets Casey, everyone would have been happy then.
