Most clubs like to keep their recruiting under wraps and yet Meningie publicise that they are chasing Motlop via the Sunday Mail. I would have thought this was a pretty stupid move. Now that other clubs know he is on the market he is guarenteed plenty of phone calls and a rapid increase in his asking price. Surely Motlop is not the long term answer for Meningie??

The rumour re Meningie and Motlop had been going around for a while, including on here. It might have been the case that the journo instigated it with the Meningie FC.

Care to explain to me how Meningie publicized this??? Obviously the Advertiser caught whiff of it and decided to chase it up. All that was said from the Bears was "I wont say too much", and "we are in discussions". The Advertiser were obviously going to run with the story anyways.

How many rumors of coaching candidates or player chasing have we heard from the Bears, NOTHING. Would say they have kept most things under wraps better than most clubs and something like this was bound to get out.

Its more a case of someone knowing someone, Daniel has talked to a number of clubs however the journo got the best story out of his connection to meningie and it also gave the club a plug.
Great work all round, the bears get in the paper and possible past and future players get excited about playing along side a champion while clubs all over the state start a bidding war over Motlop knowing now that he is ready and willing to travel away from Adelaide and play outsie the SANFL.

In other news Owen Love to Echunga, we saw him having a nice old catch up with their coach last week in the bridge and Ray Love now living in town and playing with his former junior club Kilburn. Neither are mercinary's and I wish them all the best, on this occasion circumstance and family trumped cash (from what I am lead to believe...)

Oooh forgot to add that the Territory Thunder are talking to all in sundry about next season, Motlop has shown interest however prefers to be on the same deal as McLeod - fly in and out for cameo's rather than staying put in the NT.

Both the Love boys have signed contracts at Tailem so not sure how accurate your mail is Champ, unless Tailem are prepared to release them.

All clubs should be using Community Football Board contracts and these are approved by the SANFL and can only be broken with agreement from both parties.

After a little bit of digging I believe the door is not shut on Motlop returning to the Roosters, he's got a deal on paper but wants similar cash to that of his AFL contract which is ridiculous. The deal at Meningie is substantial but includes him coming on as a playing coach which would be interesting to say the least. If he takes the deal at the Bears there bank balance must be huge!! They've offered a swag of blokes 1500 plus including former Central Districts legend Noodles.

Will these two signings be enough for them to be competitive and sneak into the five?

All these guys may help them make the five next year but wouldnt help them to the GF. And then comes the problem of how long they will stay around for? More than likely just the one year, then they are back where thay started and with less points the following season

Wouldnt you want the playing coach there twice a week? Be surprised if this happens.

It gets even sillier, on the SFL page it is now suggested Motlop is going to play with Brighton, seems like he is going to be busy.

Daniel Motlop has just tweeted that he is the new Meningie Coach - that is big news - wonder who he can bring with him
interesting that is - i think he was suspended twice for 3 games up in the Territory this year.
Hope he doesn't bring that discipline to the RMFL
