yeah Edgar back to the important stuff. I can tell you that there has been an effort to get solid A grade footballers into the area with employment. I would say anything up to 5 at this stage. Looking at improving on last years effort, which obviously wouldnt be hard. Not obsessed with winning a premiership in a year, but building depth over time. We are pretty confident we have some good young kids who will develop into very handy players in time. Obviously Clive and a few others are still on the radar as far as imports go. Things will be clearer at the end of the month

Drifter - Will these five players have to also cover the loss of Travis Muster to Broadview?

Duke, you seem to think you know a bit about the league. I have heard on the Barossa grapevine that young Bain (steve, I think) from Angaston has signed on at Waikerie. Are you able to confirm or deny.

Good luck getting a clearance if he was to play at Freeling

Don - Would this have anything to do with the deal regarding Ben Casey and his former playing days at Freeling?

I once played on Steve, he was a handy played in his day, but I wouldn’t want to see him in a guernsey anymore. I think you may be referring to young Greg "Stiffy" Bain. I’m unsure if it has any substance, but I have heard the rumor.

Just with the alternatives mentioned for the change of fixtures...

If Finals went to Sat/Sun as 2005, some things for consideration:
- Having not played a Sunday game all year what effect could it possibly have on teams that have made the finals... Playing for a grand final berth (Second Semi) after an unusual preperation, or playing to keep your season alive (First Semi) after an unusual preperation

Put the season back a week:
- Well any comp that takes on the AFL GF is just plain stupid, you would be lucky to 300 people there.

No bye for the Inter-Association game:
- A team bordering on the four loses their best 2 players to the association team, come up against a lower placed team, get rolled by under a kick, miss the finals by a game or percentage
- A team bordering on the four plays the a top side who has say 7 players in the association game, beat the when normally they wouldn't (say against tanunda last year) thats an unfair advantage over other teams
- On a personal level, a player misses out on winning the schluter & mail medals because he played association game (the winner of the medal didnt play or their team had the bye that week so got an extra H&A game to play in)

I understand the importance of the festival, but as someone said, either make all clubs involved have away games, or have a rivalry clash and make it part of the festival... There are always pros and cons to every discussion, I am happy with the fixtures as they are for now.

Termie did you have a role to play in this? Big loss for ango if true, hope its not, greg is a gun and very liked member of the A garde team, would be a future captain IMO.

Agree with what you are saying LC, but how about the Association re does the draw with Tanunda having the Bye on the scheduled Association week and they represent the association. No other teams would then be effected by player loses. Lets be honest the Tanunda side would thump alot of association teams around.

Liquid Confidence wrote:Angaston - May fall back again after a promising year, the loss of the coach and some players my hinder the progress made by the group. Recruiting will be important to replace / top up the talent here.

Barossa - With the talk of a few players moving on, this could signal the end to Barossa'a dominance, however they have recuited rather well in recent years and IF they do fall of the pace it wont be by much.

Freeling - Prouse to lead a group of young local fella's, without the impact of imports they have had over the last 4 years, expect another tough year for the Redlegs, but I have a feeling short term pain will lead to long term gain for group.

Gawler Central - Tough one, depending on the coaching appointment here, have the ability to make the next step and play off in the big one, they need to fill their vacant import spot (along with the one made vacant with Hahn becoming a local) to be a chance.

Kapunda - A list with a few quality players but lacks the depth of premiership campaigns, Sam Ryan isnt getting any younger so a lot rests with taylor and Valentine, may just slip out of the 4 with the improvement of other teams.

Nuriootpa - Hard club to gauge, had a good run late in the year, and change of coach could be a positive (might not also), expect improvement through this lot, but will still miss the four.

South Gawler - Have promised a lot for a couple of years now, and with the inclusion of another handy player to help Bayliss, may just push them towards fourth spot, a recent losing culture may be a problem, not sure if the coach can get the best out of this group.

Tanunda - Easily will still be the bench mark. With centenary celecbrations over there will be a little less pressure. They may drop a couple of games (only 1 or 2) this year, be interesting to see if all players stay there this year.

Willaston - The loss of C McLean is huge here, S Baker will need to do too much (and often tries too), Seelander will need to bring quality players to the club, for a group that showed enormous potential 3 years ago, it seems they missed the boat here.

Jake Levy is a great bloke and can play football if fit... unfortunately though he seems to have swallowed a cow and covers the ground accordingly... if Freeling can get a decent pre-season into him then he will be more than handy.

On other news there were two new faces at the lions den last night... they will be very handy footballers... They have arrived from a league adjacent to the BLG...
Tim Clarke was the #1 player in the AFL

Yes Jake might be carrying some extra weight but so are half the blokes who play in country footy. He has alot of talent and would be a handy addition to any club. One thing that has been said is he is a big mouth even to his own players but if he was to calm that down the BLG would have another quality player coming into the comp!!!
