The Report was NOT (for those that need to be told again) for Intentional Contact with an umpire, but for Negligent Contact. If it was for Intentional we would never see Battams play again. However he pleaded Guilty to Negligent Contact to the HFL, and appealed over the length of the sentence to the SANFL with the aid of a QC. No rep from the HFL was at the SANFL hearing, nor the umpire in question. Now I've seen the footage, and I KNOW how TM got a black eye. He was hit extremely hard, and I'd suggest TM is a tough unit, cos I know a few blokes at our Club would have been calling for the stretcher! All I can say about Battams is get those blinkers off him, if has trouble seeing blokes in orange shirts on the field. Perhaps High Vis for the Umps next year?
Cougar, from what I hear the SANFL have completely shafted the HFL. TV appealed the sentence, the SANFL asked the umpire 4 hours before the hearing to turn up, to which he said was too short notice. So the SANFL guy said he will send an email address to him so he could submit a report on the incident, it never happened! The hfl were never asked for any evidence that was used for consideration in the hfl decision. The only view the SANFL commision got was from Gary Hughes and his construction crew. They never even heard that the umpire received a BLACK EYE, FFS! What a joke, the guy is a sniper and should not be playing.
