Best of luck LF. Hopefully it all sorts itself out and u boys make some steps forward next year. Rome wasnt built in a day but you guys are attacking this points system pretty well and need to continue to retain and then add to your side without pushing out A grade quality youngsters that you have in the likes of Cuthbert, Griffen and co.

Although we are still in October and should be more worried about Beer festivals! :drinkers: The things I have heard about the Saints (Could be Magpies soon) are a big step in the right direction, with the right people and handling of situations things should continue to improve and grow. Very early for talk but if once its all made offical it will be a rather large talking point I imagine.

Could be the Magpies again? Dropping the Port Elliot tag from the name totally?

Does this mean you will be sticking around at Goolwa next season TW?

The Pope has to be commended for what he has done over the past 2 seasons as the Saints coach, that is a very young side and the improvements have been immense, although ladder positions have not reflected this. Here's to moving on :partyman: and full credit for the way he has gone about the resignation, no bad blood and he has done what he thinks is best for the club at this stage. Great news for the Saints to hear he will be sticking around, maybe a new senior colts coach??? He did take them to a Grand Final not that long ago!

I have always said I would love to pull on the Black and White again BJ. It would be a great move by the club if they do make the switch but that alone wont make me stick around mate, yet to make a decision on my movements for 09 mate just training at the moment making sure I am fit and ready to go for a big pre season. Last night I was doing some boxing training as one of your team mates watched on with a cold beer in hand, he looked very happy. :D

always could see pope leaving, people got on here all last year and the year before saying he would resign if someone better came along. Not sure why you as a coach say something like this, does he doubt his ability. From what i have heard he does have football smarts but seems to me that he was never acctually confident in the club or the side he has had. Good to hear he is staying with goolwa but not sure if this is a step in the right direction as coming into November think you will find as the bays did two years ago not many coaches left.

Cuzzy I think you have mis-understood your own post a little, you state that Pope was only going to stand aside if someone better came along, then at the end of your post you state you dont think its a step in the right direction as its too late in the year to find a coach.
Pope resighned as coach, the club didnt move him on so going by what you said at the start of your post and others have been saying for a while it would suggest someone "better" has come along and he has stepped down.

so announce the someone better then?? who is he and what is his background? I still cannot understand why as a coach you would openly declare you would resign if someone else better comes along. This surley means he doubts his ability, why would he take on the job in the first place, was their no-one else?

I wouldnt say that is a doubt of ability as much as the possibilty of the club moving forward , at this stage only time will tell if my decision to step aside from the job is right . People close to the club know what is going on and i wouldnt expect others to understand . No doubt there is dissapointment in the fact i have left without getting the results on field but as i have continually stated to the playing group and committee the club is bigger than any idividual , we are only custodians at the time of employment and should want to leave a club better than when we started . People are entitled to their opinion and critisism , thats what makes this forum tick , Im sure that players that i did not see eye to eye with will play next year and others return , it is only natural .

great post, not that we were entilted to get the actual comments from the goolwa coach but it is pretty gutsy to get on here himself and write what has happened. Credit to him

Just a question to the saints people on the forum.. It sounds like there are quite a few people excited about the prospect of returning to the magpies and ridding the club of the connection with Pt Elliot. Is there likely to be any strong opposition to this move or any negative consequences likely to occur from this if it was to happen??

LF is Greg Wilson in the mix at all for the vacant presidents role down at Goolwa?

From what i have heard Greg is not interested in being President, he would just continue to play a role match days and be available to give advice to any committee members including the new President should they need it. Very smart man! Could be a very interesting AGM in Goolwa.

When are each club holding their AGM's? Some interesting news to announce after they start being held i would pressume.
