B'S won 3 lost one

Fellow viewers... when TY says saw a couple of 'yummy mums'... he's not refering to me!
And when he says saw 'A Mum' looking the part... he means doing the dishes :D

But yes... was good.
Was also good to have the footballers and cricketers mingling.
We had a very productive Junior Committee meeting afterwards as well.

I hear that you guys have more than 60 players on your books who are eligible for seniors this year.

Apart from having a huge cleanout of all the old fat buggers running around in recent times, what are you going to do?

Surely youth must be promoted if you want to turn your club around and have a worthwhile future.

Would you consider running a C-Grade team in the SFL on Sundays to give everyone a game?

Thanks for Posting your first post on the McLaren Thread. I beat A Mum to it.
Yes we do have fair numbers
We don't have too many old fat buggers, We had only one player over 30 in the A's, the next eldest is 27.
The only old bloke we have is Jamie Molling and he is far from fat, we have more small little skinny blokes.

The philosophy of the club this year as it was last year is to encourage and develop our young squad. There is 8 or 9 from the U/17 Grand Final team that will be coming up to seniors. Several of those are out at South Adelaide and if not required there will be coming home.
Steve Hill has met with all the Youngsters and shared his view on footy and they are all keen.
There are at least 4 of last years U/17 that played A grade last year and of course they are an integral part of our planning for 2009.
In saying this these lads have to be good enough and will need to earn their spots. add to this the couple that played seniors last year that are firmly in the mix

Our pre season is already mapped out with trial games with 3 SFL sides pretty much locked away
Their is also a strong possibility of a trial game over on Kangaroo Island against a combined KI side, to be known as the Grape Growers Cup.
The Vice Presidents are helping with this, which is fantastic.

We are not affiliated with the SFL so the option of a C grade is out, Possibly a Wed night hit out with Willunga as we did with juniors in 2008, but that has not been discussed

Steve, Russell and Dale have fitted in well and were all at the club for tea on Thursday night along with the U/17 Coach and a few of our developing leaders.
There is a good feel at the club at the moment, however it is a long time until next September

Hope that helps you out LL

i believe they tried to put a team in the c grade comp possibly combined with willunga about 4 or 5 years ago i think, i dont know if this is fact just what i got told but we weren't able to because of insurance reasons between the two leagues, but for us two have 50 to 60 players is not unusual, but its whether or not they all come out together that is the problem, it is no good having that many people on the list if your only getting 20 to 30 out to training, from all accounts hilly will work on this. We have tried rotation before in the reserves but it doesnt really work very well. i think the way to go is to pick your best side every week if your not geting game atleast you know where you stand, the numbers is a problem and there no real way to solve it no matter what you do

soooooo true!

we at aldinga have had this same problem in the past.

when i first come to the club, it wasnt a rare thing to see 10 of us out on the track during the year, and of course, it was the same 10 guys out there EVERY week.

obviously, that reflected on the scoreboard, and the fact that we didnt win a game for 2 or 3 years.

we have managed to rectfy this problem in the last few years, which also reflects on the scoreboard. but getting the numbers out on the track CONSISTANTLY goes a very long way to having more and more success on the field come game time.

Everyone is very keen about the grape growers cup and hopefully it becomes an anual event.
There are blokes down at the weights room every night.
There is a gathering next Thursday 4th Dec at the club around 7.00pm I think and the training teams will be organised and I have no doubt they will be organising a kick

Teas are on tonight and every Thursaday and we are looking at opening the bar on Friday nights for a while.

Mate the only pre season i do now is at the bar.

Hey All, it has been a long time since i was on. It is great to see the club is going from strength to strength. I have been reading the last 3 or 4 pages and want to report on a couple of things.

HFTB, McLarens excessive numbers is not a bad thing at all, what it means is blokes will have to train and earn a spot and it makes blokes want to improve which is what Willunga do. I have heard from an extremely good source that McLaren will pick their best side in the B grade however if a spot comes down to an older bloke and a newly promoted junior and they are much the same, then the Junior will get the nod. Which is spot on in my opinion.

As for the Juniors at South i can report that South Under 18s Pre-Season has begun and there are numerous boys from McLaren having a crack.

Names such as:

Simon Pistilli
Justin Young
Anthony Natale
Chris Little (big read headed fella talked about on here)
Chris Konke
Nathaniel McMurtrie
Chris Balas

All have been at training and look excited about the prospect which is great, and they are being encouraged by Steve Hill which is even better.

On the Thursday Night Teas, they are great, the cricket boys are there and the food is awesome so i do recommend it.
