Just a walk in the park in the end for IB against Lobethal. First qtr was free flowing with 13 goals scored (8-5) but the Tigers only managed four goals after that. Too quick, too slick and too many options up forward for IB. Chris "Twiggy" Schneider in his return to A Grade was a surprise selection at CHB matched against the bigger frame of Coad, I for one was bemused by it.
Whilst Coad was too good in the air on a few occasions Schnids gave him the round around once the ball hit the ground. Widdo off the bench with 5 goals will give the coach something to think about next week. Not that keen on his victory laps thou after his goals !! Lobethal have a lot of rebuilding to do, does not appear to be a lot of youngsters coming through the ranks.

Makes for an interesting match next week against Onkas in the A Grade, 3rd spot up for grabs.

Not sure Hills Fan that your B Grade are in the same class as the top three so look forward to that clash as well.

No mention of Floreani in the Uri/Lofty clash. Did he not play GTS ?
A 3's on winner is better than a 20/1 loser !!

Usual Suspects in Kersbrook's Demolition off Gumeracha. Mick 'Chopper' Westley a lazy 11. Kersbrook had 26 goals up till half time, and officials were looking for the record books, until a major flood came down from Mt.Gould. Kersbrook's Match against Kangarilla in 3 weeks will be the one to watch.

Match report Cally Eagles v Nairne Bremer

Firstly, no Budgets were available at the gate when I arrived at 3/4 time in the B's. so it was hard to identify players without being totally familiar with both teams. Good to see a crowd well above average and given the close proximity of the clubs and their respective positions on the table, it was justified. The ground looked good; a bit chopped left of centre but otherwise very playable.
Both sides were fair dinkum from the start with good, long-kicking footy in the first quarter. Troy Bond started at full forward for the Eagles but Nairne opened quickly with 2 goals in the first 6 minutes. Eagles' playing coach Ashley Barnett looked a class above his team-mates and provided a reliable and sought-after target and it was a joy to see the old-fashioned 'sitter' he delivered to Bond's chest to put Cally in front at the 16 minute mark. Good, solid, unscrambled footy to both sides, with a late goal to the Rams' Foster seeing Nairne 5-2 to 3-2 at the first change.
A fiery 2nd quarter with both sides hard at the ball. Neville Clarke produced a threatening yellow card, but pocketed it as the crowd screamed for blood. Really nothing in it though; just jumpers being pulled, but it did eventually culminate in yellows for players from both sides. Half time scores Nairne 9-5 to 6-5
At 1/2 time Ashley Barnett inexplicably took himself off for the remainder of the game, sending Bond to full back. Cally played defensive footy from then on, lost Jai McMurtrie with a suspected dislocated shoulder, and the wheels fell off for Cally. Nairne looked totally in control in the air, kicked very directly and it was all over.
Both sides managed yellow-cards in the last quarter. Neville Clarke maintained admirable control despite crowd abuse, and yellow cards for players from both teams wasn't as bad as it looked. Cally redeemed itself somewhat with 5 quick and unanswered goals in the last 12 minutes. Hard to say at that stage whether the Rams were tired or Cally fired.

Quick sum-up:- A good, hard game of footy, very skillful at times for both sides and well worth the spectator effort.
Nairne are a better side than Cally and are the best side out of the 5 in Div. 2. Full marks to Cally though for a vast improvement this year, and I mean VAST. I hear most of their players are already committed to being around next year. Great to see the Country ladder more balanced this year!
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

Meadows winner to the tune of 58 points... Chad Dawe a dominant force at CHF booting four & probably had a hand in creating four more, first time I have seen this guy play after hearing huge wraps over the years, it is all true! Would walk into an A grade key position in ANY Central team without doubt. Hunsie kicked 6 & didn't really have it delivered all that well to be honest, led wide to the pockets often as Dawe commanded the space in front of him... Monty Feijen had it on a string & created play well up & down the wings.

Echunga seemed to have their share of the ball in the midfield over the first half & scores were only about a goal the diff @ half time but the Bulldogs came out to play after the main break & ran Echunga off their feet. No sign of Atkinson or other notable recruits for the demons, highlight of the day would have to be the haircut on VC #33 (Sheehan) OMFG!. Habner led well & created opportunities up forward but was a 1 man band.

Not having seen any COUNTRY games this year I cannot comment on the competition, however the Bulldogs played a very team orientated running game that is sure to figure come September if they keep all cattle on the park.

I tell ya what TDU, the coach can start with addressing the victory laps you speak of... If you'd just opened your eyes & spotted him striding down the wing, arms & legs everywhere you'd think the bloke had just knocked off Carl Lewis in the 100m Final.

Was trying to convince myself that it may just be "sticking it"up the coach", but memory tells me this fella gets quite excited each time the big sticks are penetrated off his own boot!

Uris will finish the minor rounds undefeated. No qualms there.
But...they are not certs for the flag.
Lofty SQUANDERED a 4 goal lead and allowed the D's to boot 8 out of the next 9 (I think) and that was that.
You CANNOT allow Uraidla to get a 2 or 3 goal lead because they know how to play out the game.
Turning point was Wood dobbing a beauty from a pocket but it was disallowed due to an 'illegal' shepherd off the ball. WTF? I don't think it was dirty and had NO impact on the play. From then on the momentum swung and Lofty made critical errors. Couldn't hit targets from FB. And again innacuracy kept the oppositiion in the game for too long, I think at one stage the Devs had 2-9. Can't do that against an out fit like the Cabbage.

JQ - Your point re: Uri's knowing how to protect a lead is indeed spot on, recalling the game V's IB @ Cabbage patch the lead would be pegged back time & time again only for them to kick another couple & you're right back where you started... demoralising for the opposition team as they go about it in such clinical fashion, they seem to do nothing noticeably different (from a game plan perspective) but just steady up & hit targets without fail.

So Lofty got the fast start they so much desired & still no cigar...

Noteable absentees from both BP & Goalkickers lists; did both Floreani & Ebert play? First time both have been absent from print in months...

Yeah, tough to watch, hey? I reckon you could be right, 2Old. It's a gameplan they stick to. One that works and is reliable.
Floreani played but I would have had Wood, Baldock and Grosser in the best.
RE their start to the game - not a flyer but definitely should have lead by more at half time. At that stage, to be brutally honest, Uri's looked ordinary and gone.

Bridgy vs Blackwood

Credit to blackwood, ran hard all day and it showed on the scoreboard.

2nd & 3rd qtrs, we had free kicks reversed and gave away at least 5 50m penalties and unfortunalty that usually results in a goal on our oval.
Jack Beverlander was clearly punched in the head only person not to see it in the ground was the ump.

only good thing to come out of saturday was the snr colts winning there 4th game in a row and knocking off blackwood for the 2nd time this year and look like playing finals

TDU, flo did play and played well, just not well enough to get in the best. lofty simply squandered too many opportunities in fromt of goal 2.5 in the first qtr to uris 1.1. at half time shouldve been up by atleast 6-7 goals. and as JQ wrote the illegal shepard swung the game went straight up the other end for a uris goals. our 2nd half wasnt to our standards and skills simply werent up to scratch. but without doubt uris are very beatable.

difference in my mind was j brown. that lad doesnt miss goals, super footballer.

bit late to comment on this now but good on the onkas commitee and collo for standing up to their own supporters.. no room for racism around here!!

onkas may be in some trouble this yr not looking anywhere as good as last yr. collo may be looking to nxt yr already as he had roger james at his side against us all day!!!
VOTE1 Tom Maslin for the seat of MAYO!!

Congratulations Armytank 2 games of footy on the weekend. Also playing in the middle at the end of the last game, showing plenty of run and carry. Although promotion to legend status seems to be a bit premature seeing you are still playing.

I think if Lobey keep that up they could get rolled by Birdwood at the end of the month.
Just about every time they pushed it into the backline it came out twice as fast.
Twiggy played well and again I think Parters was fantastic. The sniper put away his tools when he found he was playing on Hare and Howser. They do seem very short on youngsters coming through although I know they have a few injuries in that area. They are different to other clubs where their good young Senior Colts that have to play 2 games on a Saturday play in the B’s not the A’s a bit strange I think. :( Give them the experience for ron.

Thanks Alaska, it was a lot of fun, finally got to play with and against a fair few blokes who I never thought I would, guys I used to watch as a kid and a few blokes who were playing their last senior games as I was playing my first.
Running around with Nappies holding my beer so I could have a drink while I am out there was good but I don't reckon I would do it Saturday.
Going up in the ruck against Scott Young, Pres Langman and Noel and Darryl Morgan was fun too, got a bath from some big blokes but at the end of the day I am glad I could help make up the numbers so the old buggers could have their day played in good spirits.
On a side note I hope that Hobbsy's knee is ok and I hope Mick (u17's coach) is alright although I haven't heard anything yet.

Funniest part of the day was watching Benny Dunbar and Michael King go up in the ruck for all of the last quarter......midget footy!!
I hate Full Back.....................

Don't read too much into Roger James at Collo's side on a Sunday game GTS. They were School and Norwood U/17 mates and are still good friends today. He said he was up there to help him out, which obviously didn't work against Lofty!
