It doesn't look like Callington will be too much better. Birdwood 63.42 to 0.1 in the A's and Birdwood 36.19 to 2.0 in the B's. Speaking to Trev Morrison who umpired the A's he said that the A grade did seem to have a fair few new players in the A grade and were a better side than last year.
I'd hate to see what last year's side looked like then

Johnno made his debut in the yellow in the U17's and B grade and surprisingly didn't do a bad job - he did enjoy rattling off a few of the nick-names of the Birdwood boys when paying some frees!!

Do teams take it easy on Callington?

haha, when a team gets beaten by 63 goals, I don't think that is taking it easy on Callington.

We went into the game just trying to play our game plan and try and stick to our structures. We did throw a few players around in the second half to test a few players (similar to a trial game) but saying that, we scored 20goals in the last quarter!

When you think about it, it actually would be difficult to "take it easy" on a team when both sides have 18 on the field. Games like this just shouldn't happen but if we didn't score like we did, then we would be disadvantaged in % when all the other sides kick big scores against them.

Unfortunately I don't think it's going to get better for Callington as a few of their new players were heard to say "I can't believe I came out here for this". I'm not sure how long their new players will stick around and without having snr and jnr colts, there's certainly not going to be any kids come through to senior footy for a long time to provide a "light at the end of the tunnel".
Their U13's did beat our yesterday by 2pts though - but that was with 4-5 permit players from jnr colts.

I'm not sure how long the HFL can just let this go on. Perhaps put a ultimatum to them and say reduce your loses to 15 goals by the end of the year or your affiliation for 2012 won't be accepted unless it is to field a C grade only.

The situation at Callington is very sad. They used to be such a proud club and were formed for the right reasons by people who had their hearts in the right places. The situation seems unrecoverable. Perhaps they could keep the spirit alive by slipping into the C Grade bye? This way they could play in a really competitive comp and pick up some of their self-esteem, and at least be assured they won't get totally hammered. Milang field C's only, they're always right up there and have an excellent supporter base. Callington began from the very base upwards and could do it again with the right attitude and a few hard decisions.
Players win awards. Teams win games. Clubs win Premierships.

Pretty disappointing for the Marne Maggies by the sounds of it.
Pretty easy to group them in with CAllington too, but the league has let the Callington issue drag on far too long, and if Sedan/Cambrai are getting enough numbers from their local area and are happy to keep turning up, then deserve far more leeway.

Sounds like a tight game, how did Wade and kenyan go for the dogs? both had a bit of interest about them pre season how did they shape up round one?

Echunga beating Gum;s by about 5 goal in the end things were even up until after half time then the Dee's started to get the running game going. Possibly could of put them away by more, but a few little mistakes in the last cost us.

Tips for this week:
Cally v Meadows - dogs by a motza (300+)
Sedan/Cambrai v Birdwood - roosters should be too good for S/C (120+) but looking forward to heading down there for the first time.
Echunga v Kersbrook - match of the round, Demons at home by 7pts
Kangarilla v Maccy - Maccy by 17pts in a good game
Nairne v Gum - Northern pies should account for NB by 40pts.

Why throw United Eagles up against Birdwood at Birdwood in Round 1? Why set up a struggling club for failure in the very first round of the year? In Round 2, poor Sedan-Cambrai get the next kick in the guts against the Roosters. Obviously there are hidden agendas on the part of the HFL here. I can think of a couple.

Why not play a 'good' side first up, Roosters have got a few new players who will be settling in and probably will be some weeks before they hit their straps. The end result will be the same anyway - once you get over 20 goals, it's a flogging however you look at it.
What are the hidden agendas? Don't be coy on here, what's the point?!

It's okay McGov, didn't mean to be coy on here. Gimp touched on one of my suspected HFL agendas re the Eagles. The league is a toothless tiger and haven't been brave enough to force United Eagles to play C's, so they are trying to illustrate the point by allowing them to be flogged hard enough so that the public protests and ends up making the decision for them. Another agenda could be to stroke Birdwood's fallen ego to the point where they have 97% by round 3. Just a thought.

Very prophetic Crumber, your prediction's looking good. Birdwood currently standing at 99.76%. I don't think S/C will reduce it by much. How absolutely ridiculous this all is.
