The GSFL website doesn't really explain anything does it... just shows who's worth what points.

Hasn't Wayne Deacon's name been mentioned in regards to the McLaren job?
I seriously doubt that Deacs would even think about coaching against his beloved Mudlarks??
Speaking to him recently, he wouldnt have in the past but things change.... :-k
Funny that!
Wayne no doubt will be keen to get his handds on a head coaching role again if this means its away from home then thats what will have to be done, if he gets it Mclarens would see the return of one good player in Loots.
You honestly reckon the infamous Danny Loots will return from the Vikings if Deacon coaches.
Why not he is a proven supporter of Deacon.

Wayne didnt mention the trip to the GF this week with his 2 school mates did he?

BJ I think a couple of mates were going with him to the GF if his side made it but they suffered alot of injuries and were knocked out of the finals. I believe he was very disappointed but thats footy

Is it possible that Lootsy & Tomlinson could go back to Mclarens if there good mate was to coach??

I do not think Tomlinson would head back to McLaren. I spoke to him earlier this year and although he didn't mention who there is someone at McLaren that Tomo does not get along with.

Just on why coaches leave their home club, would it have something to do with there being only one position for a coach at each club (A-grade that is) so if there are 3 or 4 fellas at a club that want to take up coaching, 3 of them would have to look elsewhere, correct? And if they are going to be coaching at another club, they would like some money for their efforts.

Fantastic point Damian. I know someone who loves their club but aspires to be an A grade coach and may have to move clubs to get his opportunity. :(

Langhorne Creek senior colts would have to be close to the biggest improvers during the course of the season. If you are judging on a season to season basis the Yank A Grade would have to be most improved.

Just for the record:

Round 3 Willunga 5-1 (31) d The Saints 3-1 (19)

Round 14 The Saints 4-1 (25) d Willunga 2-6 (18)

LF, your side look like they have been playing team footy for years! How long have you been coaching these boys for? You must have a pretty good junior program going down there, starting with the mini's through to the Senior colts the Saints have been very competitive in the last 5 years.

Why would you want to be a Coach???????
e.g. In the GSFL.
10 Teams
1 in 10 chances of going top.
9 in 10 chances of not going top.

Mathematically the odds are.... you lose

Simple answer to that Magoo, to be that lucky 1.

I see coaching as different depending on what grades you coach:

In senior grades... to be that lucky 1. (that's how it is)

I think junior coaches should be seen differently to that...

When coaching juniors I'm sure the reward is not being that lucky 1 (even though it's nice) but the fact in knowing (If that's what youve done) that you've taught them well, developed them (especially the ones who need it), and given them a grounding for their football life.

I think that junior coaches are just as important in a club as senior coaches !!

(Did I get on my 'high horse' then  - sorry)

So....

Is coaching juniors more rewarding than coaching seniors??

Is it harder to coach seniors or juniors??

Do all junior coaches 'aspire' to become senior coaches??

Are some people more cut out for coaching juniors than seniors or vice versa ??

O:)

Lootsy's kicking comes straight from the Ben Baxter "Kicking Techniques" textbook. Available now at Angus & Robertson. :D

Have heard Ben has written a few best sellers they include "My left cheek" a close up on one's continually growing bum."Between the cheeks" a real life interview with a bum that needs bigger shorts, & the best yet "A hole to nowhere" a gripping yarn on those irretrievable shorts from the 80's.All have been fowarded by the Australian womens cricket side.

In regards to the player points system - each player will lose a point each year he plays at the club until he reaches the minimum of one.

If players such as Rolfe were to return to the Bays he would attract the 1 point plus an additional 3 as he has come from another division 1/2 league.

As for someone like Lootsy returning to McLaren, he would be 1 as he played junior football at that club but it could also be argued that he played his last game for Pongy or the Valley and could attract 3 extra points.

One of the main ideas of the points system was to stop GSFL clubs "poaching" from within their own league.

There are a lot of grey areas that can be argued with the league if a club feels they are being "ripped off" as to how many points a player may accumulate.

For anyone who is interested, on SBS at 8 pm (or 7.30 pm if you watch on FOX) Wednesdays, there is a show on called Alive and Kicking. It is a doco on rural footy in Australia. I watched last week and it brings home so many home truths about country footy.

I think someone else may have brought this up so sorry if I have stolen your thunder.
