If the Super B's Captain is retiring.....perhaps JQ could make a comeback to make up the numbers.......or would he have to come back through the C's?

Not a lot to report TWE - Lacey on the bench in the A's, that is all I can remember really but not a lot of changes.

2 blokes who trained last night missed out on a C grade game I believe, approx 65 blokes on the track!

ha ha, it could very well just be 'making up the numbers'...not much room nowadays for an arm over the FF shoulder and a punch away, I'd get called "in the back" too much!
I'd come back thru the C's...and probably get stuck there!
Although I had a run for someone else last weekend and I have learnt that playing with a hangover is a MASSIVE handicap as well!

He wouldn't replace him...a new ploy - TWO CHF's. Maybe off the bench then or Fwd pocket??
Wait is more vital to a flag chance than Fleet, that's one reason I'd have him back in.[/quote]

both of them have been out for most of the season so far. More importantly Ben Gordon has been out for most of the year. I would go as far as saying he is more important to the mt lofty line up than wait and fleet put together.

as far as the rest of the team, they are all flying. It will be interesting what happens when mt lofty play the other top teams again. Its easy for players to perform when they are playing the lower placed teams, but can they continue that form against the better opposition? Same goes for the likes of Uradlia and Onkas.

R. White - I see your point re Gordon. Is he ever coming back?
"can they continue that form against better opposition"...Lofty have SMASHED everyone except Onkas and Uraidla. And those losses were 5pts and 25pts respectively. I reckon, second time around, Lofty will beat both Uri's and Onkas because from what I've seen, it's not just a case of doing the job against lower teams, but really enforcing yourselves. They do that.

your right about mt lfty enforcing themselves on lower placed opposition. But if gordon is not back by the time they plat uri's and onkas then im not sure they have enough fire power up forward. I know that metha and white have kicked alot of goals but against the better teams lofty need them helping out down the ground. Saying that, if gordon's first game back is against one of these sides he might be a little underdone therfore not be as potent as he can be.
Dont get me wrong i think that lofty has the ability to go all the way again but with the comp a bit more even this year alot will fall back onto the coaching of these top sides.

Thanks, Bazz.
Exactly as I thought...except, who's making way for Pistols? Who incidentally could kick 14 if left alone.
Any other selection news from around the traps?

Is this an exchange or are we that short we are pinching umps from other leagues?

Barry, I thought the umps that did our trial games weren't too bad?

L. Chapman is reportedly playing B grade! What is going on down there at Devil land? That guy will run rings around the B grade!
Who else got relegated if Wait and Pistols are back in? O'Gorman is still playing I believe.

Don't know if it was a case of being worried about hits. Apparently the young bloke reportedly endured a few 'hits' last Friday nite :drinkers: May have been a factor in the Under 17 Hills side appearing a bit tired in the last 3 qtrs of rep game!!

Referring back to earlier posts on the umpires, how much do they get a game? I agree that we should crank up the payments and there's no doubt it would attract umpires. Offer $150-200 per A-grade game and I reckon we might even get a few young blokes with some idea about the current rules running around out there. I'd umpire for that sort of coin once i finish playing. Take the money out of the gate takings....just get some more umps!

Prior to the association game I was playing and free's weren't being awarded when the ball carrier was tackled and therefore dropping the footy incorrectly...albeit attempting to....now this certainly consititutes a free kick. Upon asking the umps why they were not being paid, one said 'mate i've been umpiring footy for years and it's never been a free kick, he was attempting to get rid of the footy'. Maybe a little training is in order also, we all know the footy rules are very dynamic in this day and age. And i'm honestly not having a go at the umpires because i know they try their best, but some just have a better idea than others, that's why we need to generate a larger supply so we can use the pick of the bunch....not teh only one's we have.
