This is the issue. No one in sure if the one year waiting period applies anymore.

No, the one year waiting period doesn't apply anymore so a GF team nominating will go up into Central for season 2012 and the lowest "overall" club comes down to Country.

Will they? Or will the HFL just make it up as they go along like they did last time?

Perhaps the HFL should consider drafting the process as to promotion/relegation into the constitution and by-laws so it is clear for everyone.

Thank you everyone for highlighting my point. There are issues we want answers to, so come on Courier, pull your bloody finger out, do some journalism and get us the answers! I know that even the best newspapers in the country can be unreliable but it's better than the silence that we're currently getting.

Whats do they need to investigate?

Confirm that Birdwood want to make the GF and come back to Central Div? Doesnt seem like much of a story to me....

Maybe if the Courier actually did some journalism and covered the football issues people want to talk about, instead of just kick-to-kick descriptions of games they'd sell a lot more papers and cancel out all the stupid rumors.
Thank you for the club's view and insight as to what is happening. Very appreciated.

I think you're being too hard on the Courier Jardarf and others. Their coverage (and real journalism) re local footy is second to none and I know of no other Country publications which regularly perform so well. It's important to bear in mind that club officials will always 'talk up' their clubs in the media, hence the real truth will never be uncovered anyway. The President of the League only tells people what they want to hear and has a degree of disrespect, which is very aptly pointed out by numerous posters here and elsewhere. Cancelling out rumours and heresay will never be entirely possible for those reasons.

I think the Courier do a great job in digging deep to uncover valid local footy issues, but in doing so they can only be reliant on their souces, which often leave a lot to be desired. Furthermore, I feel Callington and Torrens Valley have been 'done to death' media-wise, and many readers now would skip over details of their doings and/or undoings. I have no links at all with the Courier, but I think their coverage of local footy and associated issues is excellent.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

:ymapplause: Well said by somebody who obviously has been around and knows where The Courier sits in the scheme of country journalism. You've got to compare apples with apples and The Courier is the best country newspaper in the state. It seems like people expect the same coverage as The Advertiser. I've been reading The Courier for 15 years and they have done an excellent job and have moved with the times. They don't have Michaelangelo Rucci and his team down there but they do a good job.

Totally agree Crumber and McGovern, disagree Jardarf. I get around a bit in my job and read most country papers including footy sections. I have yet to read a paper that does it better than the Courier, even better than the Advertiser at times. We are so lucky in the hills in that we get good, well-reported reading on a Wednesday night. The footy section is always right on the mark as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure if I totally agree on the Courier having the best footy coverage. I haven't read the Standard for a while but that beat the courier hands down for footy coverage. Every Thurs there would be a preview of each up-coming game and every tues there would be a report from each game plus a full page of results with each grade's ladder and goal kicking tables.

I have to say, i've been disappointed with the Courier's footy coverage so far this year - all there's been is a massive write-up of the 20-20 trial games which the Courier are sponsoring and the Ben and Pistols' teams are both playing in. For the last two weeks, the only mention of another club has been Onka's new coach. Like some other posters on here, I would've thought they may have covered a bit more on the clearances in and any other "biggish" footy stories - their previous years have certainly been better.

I get both the Standard and the Courier each week and I would not put the Standard in the same league. Yes ths Standard do preview games but it really just an avenue for Peter Dalwood to sledge players, supporters and coaches. At least the Courier tries to put a positive slant on football no matter how poorly clubs are going. It is also a lot easier to provide coverage in Murray Bridge when there is only 3 A grade games each week.
For me I would take the Courier any day over the Standard.

I agree that the 20/20 comp has had enough exposure..time to move onto other club news.

Re Hills clearance details on sporting pulse...no updates since 15 feb...surely its time to get this uptodate!!!

Great preparation for the season being a part of the night comp. Echunga will be match ready and hit the ground running in 2011. Might be the best placed club going into the season to go one better??

Yeah I know, we'll see. Just looks like they're putting their best foot forward. Keen to go watch the Roosters on Saturday - can't remember watching any RMFL footy so don't know what to expect. Those with nothing better to do on Monday and Tuesday come and watch a born again roofing master at work on the Birdwood clubrooms!!
