Rovers made 240 batting first against Tod River, 8 down and Tod River all out for approx 185 in reply.
Both sides had key players out - Mortlock Park oval extremely fast due to dry weather which contributed to high scoring game.

Lipson made 195, we gave away 40 sundries including 26 wides. We were all out in the last over for 183. Batted reasonably well but the sloppy start to the year with the ball cost us. Happy enough for the first game though considering the following did not play - Coombes, Jules, Lunch, Fridgey, Tuffy, Skinny & Jarrod D

The club challenge realy is treated as a preseason warm up. The standard is pitiful. See Charltons team and they won by 10 wickets.
Any Taman player who failed against that weak Wayback bowling lineup should play bgrade. Hogan loves the small ovals and hard wicket where he doesnt have to run. Get him on centenary on a low deck and lush outfield and he struggles, same with Gourlay (ring, ring).
Jeanschy is another lost talent at Charlton who will take the competition by storm this year.

Jaenschy did bowl well on Sat but still has a way to go. Has definitely gained at least a couple yards of pace from last season and is bowling much more consistently. The best thing about him is he's keen to learn.

Puma ... Yeah Ireckon that was Pooley who played in the EP side this year. Saw a bit of the game last week and he was playing. Nice action shot of Wooly in the paper today too!!!

i have seen him making Orchard, Hogan, and Ben Smith step away to square leg when facing him.
he has every batsmen covered in this town

OL I think you will find most batsmen would have a lower average batting on the sub standard pitch called centenary. I wouldn't mind scoring hundreds in the back yard at home so to me it wouldn't matter which oval you make them on, they are still a fair achievement.
As for Rainbow set for another big year, I hope he does well but it is tough to rely on one bloke in your team to carry you through and he can't bowl 50 overs so will that see Charlton fail again come finals time.
OL The Alliance challenge is just a preseason comp but worth a nice $1000 to the winning team and I would say that every team would be happy to win that and it is probably more then the premiership in the normal comp is worth.
One topic of conversation and that is Do you or don't you WALK?? Just because gilly does it, everyone seems to think that every player playing the game should and I actually think standing there making the umpire make a decision is my right for paying him to be there. Any thoughts? so the next time some one says to me why didn't you walk? I will say because the umpire didn't give me out!!
