The main players in getting Cally started years ago are long gone.

The Chief (Scott Jolly) got a huge job offer early on plus his brother died not long after.
The heart (Buddha and Nevin Van den Brink plus many others) are unfortunately long gone.

I totally agree ODB in that the main players who got Cally started are certainly long gone. But with all due respect, the Van den Brink bros were relative late-comers to the club, arriving when the Eagles were around 3 years old. And Buddha (RIP) was the only one with heart, sorry.

Agreed on all counts on this one. The Van den Brink's arrived in 1998 and I'd agree overall with all of what kickittometoo said. Scott Jolly was certainly the main player in starting it, with Michael Holton.

Sounds like there's quite a lot of people out there who love the old Callington and will be devastated to see it fold. Which begs the question: why hasn't anyone grouped together and done something about it? It is possible to overturn a committee, get some good people in there and turn things around. Sounds like it's easier for people to say, "it's their fault" and "I told you so". If you love the club that much you don't let it die.

Many of those involved live in the city now, and many tried a number of times over the years to help the club, and were met with blanket refusal by those involved at the time who "knew best" and refused to acknowledge the work of those who set up the club in the first place. History has distorted over time as to who was involved at what point, but those who were there at the time know full well who did what, and when. ATS, it gets to a point where many of those same people get tired of banging their head against the wall for years.

There are indeed lots of people out there who love the old Eagles. Many have tried to assist but they have their own agenda and will not be moved. Most of us are playing or involved in other clubs with our kids. We don't have the energy anymore to push shyte uphill. Callington are not a 'normal' footy club, which is why so many have gone to clubs which are.

The HFL has always cheerfully accomodated Div 1 clubs which have too many juniors, such as Hahndorf and Mount Barker. They have allowed their second tier juniors to play in Div 2 when those clubs have no Seniors to follow. They could do exactly the same for Callingtons' juniors.

Would that become difficult if you have one team following say Hahndorf, another following Mt Barker and so on? Especially so if you have children playing in different grades?

That is very sad news. Pat was one of the genuine good men of the umpiring fraternity when I was playing and have many fond memories of him in games. We didn't always agree, of course, but knew he was in it for the right reasons. Deepest sympathies to the Lundie family at this time.

Sorry to hear about Pat. He was a great umpire and clubman - a genuine bloke who loved his footy and his club. R.I.P.

Thought Nairne might recruit and spend a bit of coin this year..

Thought Neil Hein might pull his Brisbane connections and get Warwick Capper next to Clinton Foster in the goal square

Nothing whatsoever except hanging around in the goalsquare waiting to be fed. Many will vividly recall the skins, guards, tapings, gloves and diarrhea of the mouth! On the other hand, his bro Ben epitomised country footy and was an inspirational gentleman of giant proportions. Glad to see so many tribute games of cricket and footy still being held in his honour.

Having juniors without seniors would be very challenging for any club. I think the programming would be the least of the worries. Their juniors would have to be the 'visiting' team every time, hence no gate rewards. All Callington's junior grades would have to be assured of the same venue on any given Saturday. Surely having too many junior sides would be a luxury too good to miss for the HFL, and would be a huge boost worth accomodating for the the future of the League?
Do Sedan-Cambrai have juniors? If not, an obvious solution exists.
