Is all this because of a comment about a player who has nothing to do with the SGL playing for a club thats not in this comp either :-t You are on the wrong thread "Peanuts" ;)

Any tips for the year boys- all trials out the way.
I would guess south and central to start warm favourites to fill top 2 spots.
Wests have been quiet but always a solid group, no real losses
Lions have lost a few but young group a year older now so will be fine
Port should improve and push strongly for finals
Sollies likely to bring up the rear with big losses in price, tee & kendall

Woolford fitness on the big sgl grounds will get him plenty of votes so him for maddigan!

All longe range crystal ball stuff!

i think lions will end up on the bottom of the ladder with the loss of jamar, dunkley, edwards, sieber (all been cleared)
mcnicol (has stated he will not be playing this year as he will probably be moving due to work)
skater would have to be 40 kg over weight
dean steel has not been sighted no one knows what he is doing

  hey 7-dog a lot more goes on in footy clubs than just rock up on a sat or sun afternoon and put the boots on!! As for the best ruckmen in SGL history you have to be kidding dont you?? Yep fair enuf he has the medals on the board but i would like to see some of the oldr fellas around have a say in that!! I mean Stephen Magor,Shane Curnow Gavin Leske and Burford are much better players than he will ever be. He maybe retiring cos Burford is back as he always gets a hiding when he plays against him. Now i have been involved with many sports for a long time and i tell you back in the day with the Hayes Bros,Glen Johns, Adrian Davies Monkey Hellmans Larry and Jeff Rawlins and the ilk there would be no way in the world them REAL footballers would put up with this lad demanding every thing and giving nothing back to the club or his mates. The players mentioned earlier played for the jumper and there mates along side of them not for the money thats why they were so respected!!!! And they actually TRAINED!!!!

Since when did Burford play for $0?
Burford has dominated in the ruck the last few years, but Tee has been the more dominant player when we have played against them.
If you're going to include players like Curnow, Leske etc (Great champions of the SGL) Fuller has matched it with both Tee & Burford since coming back. Best ruckman I've played with didn't train either, but Peter Jackson still dominated. Matthew Anderson from Ports in 02,03? was also a great ruckman.

I am pretty sure that if Tee was running around with guys like those great Solly players of the late 80's, he wouldn't leave. Or if he had a gun midfielder like he did in 02 with Jason Robertson.
If he did, Monkey would maul him like he did to opponents most weeks. Top bloke though.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Lions for bottom?
Do you think BigSecret, cant see it myself....
If you look at it,
Sieber was an out and out star in the sgl, great work rate and appetite for the contest- yes a huge loss
But the rest, well they are all losses but.................
Jamar was a bit part ruckmen handy for team balance
Dunkley was a good player but coverable and has lost a bit of fitness
Edwards left because he didnt make their A grade in finals (a bit stiff!)
McNicol had every man and his dog chasing him and had talent but didnt set the comp alight
Skater played off the bench and forward flank as their enforcer and will again in bursts
& I thought Deano played in the 20/20 in quorn (wasnt there but think this was right) & will still be a freakish cat that reads the ball before its kicked!!
The Lions have had gun 18's for a few years now and last year they enveiled a few - if they can release a few more this year then it could cover these losses and give them a shot- They were only 1 point of central who ended up winning it and I think their coaching panel of Duck, Butch and Ash is the equal of any in the league if they can gel well. They will not be big but on the big SGL ovals I would back a running side over a tall side anyday- which is why I was suprised at the great efforts of the bloods to win last year!! Hats off to them
Tee would be a huge in for them if they get him!

I think 7dog is one that would realise what is required in a footy club!!
Youre being a bit harsh on TZ re his record, I dont think he ever gave himself a vote!! That said, he is a great player and it is disappointing for him to say its lions or he doesnt play, as i believe the cats have been good to him. Most people dont warm to those who chop and change unless they are coming to your club  I have always wondered how he would have gone if he had trained all those years. But who knows, maybe worse as he would have struggled to do better!

Thats fine student look the lad can obviously play a bit but all im saying is unless you know what the lad has been like his whole footy career and how demanding he has been you honestly wouldnt fully understand and im telling you i know how much trouble the solly footy club and some of its members have pulled him out of. You would shudder..just feel very sorry for sollies and the people that have helped him for years and this is what he does.

Agreed ST I dont know the full story but I knew they had been good to him and those around the club could not help but be disappointed.

there is no doubt that sieber is a bigger loss to lions then the rest of them but its still 5 players that were in their starting 21 that they have to replace.
As for skater and his weight,i agree he will again play his same role, but over the last two years he has had a fair bit of trouble with his hamstrings and being over weight would not help his cause.
Also as for lions young players coming through, i have been hearing this for the last 8 years.
about lions going down to central by 1 point you cant say if they won that game they would have gone onto win the gf, because i think that port lost to central by only a couple of kicks in the last round of the season.
You could be right about steel as im 100% about him

I never mentioned anyones weight, they are your comments not mine!
Good point, I agree that if Lions won that game it doesnt mean they would win the gf but I was only commenting that from there I dont think they'll finish bottom.
But who knows, its always good to have a stab at what may happen- thats what this board is for! Just wish it would begin, this late start is a real pain......

yes those comments were mine, i was agreeing that skater will still play his same roll by playing on and off the bench but being over weight and having hammy troubles isn't a good combination.
Your right we are all guessing at this stage only time will tell.
I think all the players and coaches are feeling the same about the late start.

The Northern Argus suggests Broughton are pursuing an experienced ruckman from "down the road". Tee? Would Sollies clear him to another Association anyway?
