Can anybody let us know who will be representing the league in the zone team this weekend, i think they trained and announced the squad on Tuesday night. It will be interesting to see who committs to a week off from their home club given there are some huge games this week.

I understand that Longies already have to deal with import rotations to fit them all in, John Warrior has been playing in the two's, you would have to think that he would be better than that!!

Longies have to understand that if they are going to do this sort of thing (spending big bucks and recruiting big names), they wil have to take it on the chin if success doesn't come or things don't go well long term, cause thats what they're headed for.

I agree Rooster, you think they would have learnt from the mid to late 90's when all they we doing is loosing grand finals and paying the big bucks!!!!! Wheres the development coming from?? Is that important to these clubs. They currently have some great young talent in thier senior colts its a shame to see them not getting more chances in the A's for the sake of their improvement. With such a strong A' grade side, i would be filtering these young blokes through slowly just to give them a taste of it, otherwise at the end of this year, there will be 12-14 18yr old kids too old for colts and wondering whether they should hang around and maybe play the odd A grade game next season or go elsewhere. "Its not all about the glory every year boys, development is important too"

bit like mallala with all their imports!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(too bad when JH goes to clare next year.... )

I've heard that for years but he keeps runnig out in the black n white
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

After playing my first game for the year in the magoos against two wells for my beloved eagles, my decision to retire at the end of last year was justified. Not being able to walk for a week was enough reminder for me but a one point win was satisfying all the same. I have just one suggestion for the roosters which i have encountered against them ever since first playing in the APFL. stop talking so much crap on the field. While sledging is a great past time of mine and always good to listen to particular when it comes from the mouth of Shane Warne, the red and white brigade tend to go over the top with nothing much really to back it up in terms of results. When you are up by 2 points at half time it is probably too early to start yelling at the opposition team, look at the score board. Also, no one cares if you are going to win heaps of premierships over the next few years when you are getting smashed by teams now. You have some grreat young players out there and should be proud of them but they need to put more emphasis on playing to win the game, not the verbal stoushes.
Not to rub it in boys but i have just flown back from a holiday on the gold coast to escape the winter adelaide blues, and i come back to read a forum that is simmering into what could be an all out war. Alas, stability is back!!
A limit needs to be set for imports but it is up to the clubs to respect it and plan accordingly. You can not win a premiership every year and clubs need to realise this and value their local commodities which are young players. If these players get lost in the b grade sides while a new import comes in and replaces their position every few years, eventually, they will walk away. When the money dries up, the club loses their import, and their local, and gets nothing in return.
In 2005 when hummocks won the flag, their imports were Trussell (became a local the following year but has family ties to wilsons, mum from Long Plains, and his dad played for Balak), Arnold (related to Trussell), Brett Whales (brother of Shaun who became local), Sammy Britzer (whose partner was a netty girl for Hummocks). Not alot of money was getting thrown around here i can assure you and it was the unity and mateship of the club that got them across the line.
The following year imports were Light (clare), Knapstein (Clare), Arnold. Once again not much money floating around and far from abusing the system. Of these players, only Britzer (moved to perth for work), Brett Whales (playing div 6 amateurs) have left and Trussell no longer playing but is still heavily involved.
I guess what im saying is, clubs should do their hommework with who they recruit and not just splash out cash. If United dont win the flag, who will have the last laugh as was the case when Hamley paid Bond a few years ago to eat pies. That said, if United win the flag, their decision will be justified and will bring more sponsorship dollars to the club.
I heard that Wanganeen and Shane Bond were playing for Longies on 5AA on a sunday morning. Surely that is great exposure for the league and like was mentioned earlier, great for the young kids who turn up on weekends who may not be able to go to AFL or SANFL games.
Sorry for this being so long but i have missed out on so much! :D
As for Swamp Donkey, that was Amos on the text a few thursday nights ago. needless to say, friday was slow

oh no you didn't!!!

You can't seriously expect to just play footy and not cop a spray here or there? i think your being too precious!
The Rooster magoos weren't expected to get anywhere near their HWE counterparts, especially with the likes of Trussell, Chivell and a few others running around. you can't balme them if the enthusiasm of being up at 1/2 time gets the better of them.
Your beloved Eagles have dished out plenty and in the Roosters opinion, the biggest mouth's in the comp.

That being said they have had success and when you win you can sing, but fair dinkum everything is fair game for the Eagles boys. In my time i have found most of the blokes to be very nice chaps, but are they any good on the lip? I could probably count on one hand the HWE players that don't sledge. And even then its because they can't get a word in. Don't get me wrong i'm not ahaving a crack, honestly i don't mind a bit of a chat on the paddock in between ball-ups, but if i was going to accuse someone of going over the top it may be wise to have a look in your own nest first.

Haven't had to pull you up yet Wedgie, but if i'm guessing correctly, this post will be coming back with some interest!! :D :D

Hamley Bridge vs Balaklava Hamley Bridge - Peckers, by enough
Mallala vs Two Wells Mallala - The Pies to sneak home - Unfortunatley
Virginia vs United Virginia - The Rams to win in a boilover!!

This will sort the Tipsters from the....err...dipsters?

Its funny, the whole time i was writing, i was wondering how the rooster would interperet this in the wrong way. It is important however not just to read every second line my friend but every line to make sense of what people say. For instance, i said i like sledging and even made reference to the great man shane warne himself. So to say i am precious is wrong as i indeed sledge also. What you must take out of what i wrote is be smarter with your sledging. You see, to say look at the scoreboard when at the final whistle shows your team as being down, is not real clever. Its like Dustin Fletcher claiming he beat Fevola yet fevola has kicked ten. Understand?? (that wouldnt happen and is just an example).
In your retort, you also argue against yourself in the manner of, yes the hummocks do sledge and are right up there in the league of sledgers, but you make a great point, sing when your winning.
My tip for Two Wells, is become good or even just consistent, before the abuse comes. I used to be the mouth of the south until i realised how much energy i was wasting on the field and it was amazing how much easier i could run out the game and that is something the young fellas should take on board. Surely you would agree with that.
As for the likes of Trussell and Chivell, Truss hasnt touched a footy since grand final last year so slightly out of form to say the least, and Chivell has hardly trained either although he was bloody good on the day.
So rooster, i say to you, sledging is good, sledging is funny, sledging is part of the game and i love it. But make it half decent and atleast amusing, and dont get too far ahead of yourselves as it can come back to bite ya!!
ps i admire your loyalty :D

It's alright Wedgie, you know the Rooster is going in to bat! :)

I'm not sure it's a major issue that a few blokes who are a little cock sure get lippy before the fat lady even fronts up at the venue!

All we can hope for is that things work out well when we do spout off, if you used to have a chat Wedgie, you would know there is no harm having a crack, but you end up with egg on your face when things go pear shaped and some blokes can get over that very quickly.

Moral of story and lesson for new players from all clubs - if you mouth off or dish out a bit of argy bargey, you'll Have to cop it sweet when things don't your way -

Ps-the Rooster has learned this time and time again the hard way, it's only just sunk in! :D

On the sledging debate, its all good fun, who really cares if the lads are throwing a bit around to get the oppositions mind off thier game!! Its looks to have worked of this occasion wedgie!!

Hamley Bridge vs Balaklava Hamley Bridge - Peckers, by 11 goals
Mallala vs Two Wells Mallala - Mallala by a whisker
Virginia vs United Virginia - Tigers by 11 goals.

See Willy and Chrissy will be standing with one arm on the bar again this week, serving the 2nd week of their suspension!!! Silly boys!!! Already cost United one game (last week) and possibly a double chance this year! Ouch.
Be good to see che kick a bag this week and make his mark on the comp!

Too right I'm an eagles supporter Swampy. And what do you mean when you say that with those two lads out, it cost United the game. The tigers could have had Wangeneen, Bond, Tredrea, Pavlich and any body else and still not beaten the eags!!! When you kick a goal from a handball over the top in the goalsquare it shouldn't be added on the leading goalkickers list!! I shouldn't complain too much, thats the only way I get my name in the producer!
