Surely, the points system is just like any other recruiting issue - if you put the right things in place, provide a good club to play at, you will retain your recruits.

It's not artificial manipulation at all. That's like saying the bottom teams in the AFL should not get priority draft picks over the teams above them? All I'm saying, is while the current points system is in place, it is going to be hard for those struggling teams to bridge the gap on the top teams. The RFL need to take a good look at the system if you ask me.

Well that's what people are saying BC, that those draft picks shouldn't be granted.
Is it really going to be hard to bridge that gap?
Berri could've bridged that gap if all of their recruits had worked out. It doesn't happen over night.
Loxton North will build up again too. Look at Renmark over the past couple of years....

While each team has the same amount of points to use, it is always going to be hard to bridge the gap, because the top teams will always have that advantage from the previous year. ie, Waikerie will go into 2009 with the same points to use as Berri. Don't have to be Einstein to work it out.

Then how did Loxton drop down the ladder this year?
How have Renmark climbed the ladder?

I'm not saying you're wrong, just providing an opinion.

I agree though that Indy players should be only worth one point. Two is just silly for a bloke that is most likely to spend a significant time in B grade that season.

Agreed.
When it would cost 2 points to get say wiry little Jarrod Munn from Moorook-Kingston to Barmera-Monash and it costs 0 for former Adelaide Crows captain and 2003 Brownlow Medallist Mark Ricciuto to Waikerie, there is something wrong!

As for Loxton, they did not recruit well and didn't help with the likes of Jamahl Liddle not pulling the boots on. That is not what I was getting at though.

Renmark were around the mark in 2007 which helped them with the points system for 2008. Throw R Bennett into a team and there is the equivalent of two recruits for starters and no points. Full credit to Renmark. They recruited very well this year.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this one DW.

One RFL club had two tradies come to town some 9-12 months before the season started to work. they had no prior affiliation with the club and their pionts stood. The RFL effectively ruled they moved to town to play football - what a load of BS. It definitely needs an overhall. This decision then stopped the club from recruiting more players. Wonder what would have happened if someone else came to town (teach or polic officer) and put them over the limit of 14. Would the club have told them to go elsewhere as they couldn't accomodate them in the points system??

Huge first up post Slapsy - welcome aboard!

I agree that part of the set up, who is a recruit and who's a local, needs to be looked at.
There are something things that need to be tidied up. I'm just not so sure that the system itself prevents teams from improving.

Renmark had this problem with Bryant and Wagnitz who both moved here for work related reasons.

We got Callahan and Wiese off because one was a physio and the other was doing an apprenticeship, seems to be tradies are not classified as a professional job?

I would like to see the rfl boys tell them that to there faces.

THE RFL had a close look at Sillicone Skyline and his medal winning mate too for some reason.

skeletal system wrote:The mistake which was made was the fact that the year they bought in the points system the top teams had an advantage straight away.

The clubs were allowed to all get a maximum of 14 points from that time, so automatically the top teams had an advantage by having more recruits from the year prior.

should be an import system which the NEFL use, that way the higher you finish the less imports are allowed and the lower you fall the more imports you can gain.

All up in the air open for everyones opinions i guess. But on ething is for sure the salary cap does not work i am sure we can all agree on that one.

See top two paragraphs. This is what I am referring to. It wasn't just an advantage for the top teams the first year it was brought in, it will be an advantage for the top teams every year, as they will always get the same points as the bottom team, even though they have the head start from the previous season. Do you know where I am coming from?

Yep, not looking good there.
Can't stand losing to India. My most hated team.
I'd rather lose to England, but we all know that's not going to happen!

And who's fault is it that they are 2 points, well i will tell you
Its the big 6s fault as they had the opportunity to change it to 1 point or 0 points this year and they were to dumb to make the right decision at a delates meeting earlier in the 2008 season
Most but not all voted to leave it as it was and you can check the minutes with the RFL
Dumb decision Dumb people.
