Re: Lofty.. Sorry but it was the only game I saw this weeken

dangermouse wrote:From what I saw the problem lofty had early was not that their big forwards were absent- it just wasn't getting down there. Lofty have a super midfield in Trzesinski, White, Burch, Wood, Peterson-Grey, Floreani, Artis, Cutting etc, but they just didn't get the job done in the first quater. When they did get on top in the midfield (after 1/4 time) then they had no-one to kick to and their lack of big targets to convert forward thrusts became the issue. And with this talk of Uraidla recruits- don't forget Marcus Anderson, he was the difference early, consistently winning the ball in close. I'm sure Lofty will welcome with open arms all there big gun forward targets when they are fit, but the midfield need to start winning some hard footy early to give their forwards a chance and backline a break. Does anyone who saw the game disagree?

Good to see Marcus Anderson still playing good footy. Was a quality junior, haven't heard his name for a while.

Marcus Anderson

Definitely playing good footy whenever I catch Uraidla games. Sometimes we can focus on recruits too much on this forum and also in club accolades and forget how good some of the local talent is. Uraidla, Lofty and Onkas probably have the best local players in the league which is the main reason they are the big wigs- recruits just complement local talent in the really good sides I think. I reckon IB are now proving this rule too but to a lesser extent for now. Anyone else have local players running around on satdy that are underrated that they want to aknowledge?

Dont want them to be the next Milang.

Uris for the div 1 flag :P

Unfortunately I don't reckon they're that far off Milang. They've definitely got the Spoon rapped up, if Callington don't fall in a heap.

There wasnt to many people out at training as hardly anyone knew about it! Sturt boys played because River Murray played there sturt boys and we needed to be competitive. Only 4 Mt Lofty players played on Sunday, the same amount of players Ironbank had playing! So I dont know what your on about, maybe Rhys just wasnt good enough to make the side Banker????

Echunga had a lot of young blokes and will finish top five.
Meadows looked the real deal for the first three quaters a very balanced side with key forwards and plenty of ball being won out of the middle. Rohan Reid was very effective in setting up the big 1st qtr. lead. Ty Maidment had some effective touches and showed plenty of pace ( comments were he was out of form).
Yes the game was over in the last qtr. but meadows failed to run the game out and a few boys were blowing hard in the last.
i think the country Div finals series will be a cracker:

Kersbrook - with all their recruits playing at once ( my tip for the flag at the moment) ouch!
Meadows - quality across the whole side
Kangarilla - Stringer will ensure they are the fittest side
Echunga - on big ovals have young legs ( darkhorses for a top 3 finish )
T/Valley - Is there enough quality left there to challenge for a top 3 spot.

Marcus Anderson wasn't he a recruit who came from Norwood with Todd Barabas. Came up when Loffler did.

For Uris: Paul Pucker Richards would be in the leagues top 5 players. Great bloke too.

For Loby: Ben Nitschke when he isn't injured. Very underrated.

For Handy: Ben Wagnitz although he's a dirty sniper.

Just a few to get the ball rolling.

Gun Locals

Postby dangermouse » Tue May 08, 2007 12:56 pm

My bad re. Anderson being a Uraidla local, still a great player though. Here here on Pucker DA, gun. And you were very well restrained to leave out Matt Stapleton or any of his local lofty mates (Artis, Cutting, Burch in particular). Very unbiased post DA but i'll say it, he (Stapleton) is one of the best players I have seen in the hills, recruits included. Is Alf Stephens a Hahndorf local anyone?

hmm his figures were a bit higher but for now i will take your word for it. He was a bit upset to be one of the better of the 15 blokes that trained and then to be told he wasn't good enough to make the 22 is a bit rough. Doesnt look like selection trials will be required next year.

And robby dont be surprised to see rhys don a Sturt guernsey soon...

2words- u17s had Gould, the Lofty coach yet no lofty players trained, weren't told about it apparently ^^

Yeah, agree on Matty Stapes, but I've said all that before and didn't want to make his giant cranium any bigger. He already has trouble keeping his feet!

Burchy was a Lofty import from a while back, but is essentially a local now he's a Stapleton.

Blokes like Marcus Anderson , Loffler , Alf stephens , Burchy - guys who have played at their clubs for many years in a row probably could be classed as locals now anyway.

Some leagues around the state work on a 3 imports a season rule, but if a player plays for 3 years in a row they are then classed as local.

Yeah was originally 6 or 7 Devils players named but didnt end up that way. Rhys was a tad unlucky but I do think the team had a large amount of smaller types, so were fairly strong in that department. If he was close to a game for Sturt wouldnt he be dominating Hills 17's, yet to see his name in the best players, but I could be wrong....he always has next year I guess.
