Yes, I temporarily forgot about the change of employment. My brain is still in shock from all the running last night. Struggling today!

HWE came out firing, obviously inspired by the return to football of 'The Jack'. Looked very smooth moving the ball and kicked the first four goals. Jared Wilson umpired shockingly and missed all the free kicks that should have been paid to the Big Shrek, including a holding the ball decision that should have been paid against Youngy. Three changes of direction is prior opportunity Jazz! Another highlight of the first quarter was the Shrek's attempt at goal. Running at a wise cracking Ryan Reid I boldly stated "I'm going to kick this!" The prophecy was fulfilled as I proceeded to kick it.... out on the full. Tim Trussell had the ball on a string and new HWE recruit Hunt was dominating taking high flying marks all over the ground.

Kilburn hit back winning the second quarter by a couple of goals. It looked like Hummocks were running out of puff(with the sole exception of Matt Higgs) with a couple of injuries leaving them without a bench. The Shrek gave Youngy a corky this quarter and the old man limped off, presumably to return to his paddock and produce some more offspring and never to be seen again. Young Jazz Manners also went walkabout round about then after copping an elbow to the back of the head requiring stitches.

Roughly more of the same in the next two quarters, more accountability by Kilburn and a depleted HWE side running out of puff meant Kilburn ended up winning by a few goals.

Good hit out for both sides with Hummocks playing a few colts and only 2 players from last year's prelim final for Kilburn playing.

Best players for HWE were probably Trussell, who despite making jokes about his age and fitness level was probably the most nimble bloke out there, and Hunt was spectacular and should dominate the APFL. Other highlights were Amos Wilson's boisterous boundary umpiring and the call from the Kilburn supporters "You're f****** blind you white maggot". Good to see the fans getting stuck into the umpires this early in the year.

APFL would be around the div 3-4 level on average? HWE a very long trip to kilburn and on a thursday... All in all it sounds like Kilburn are in for a very long season... and HWE might be hard to beat again.

Pinch Hitter I am not sure how you came to the conclusion Kilburn are in for a long hard year by Shreks overview. Only 2 of last years players played and they still won comfortably. With 10 new recruits as well as most of last years team still with us I think they can make the 4 in a very strong A2 division.

Think you are underestimating the top teams in the APFL Pinch. Hummocks should do well this year, Kilburn are still a very much unknown proposition. As Nearly Was said, only two players from last year's final A grade side, ridiculous to draw any conclusions from the night.

Trussell and Hunt are early medal contenders.

Completely different side and completely different objectives. The aim last year was to gel a side that was going to play A grade. This year the aim was to see every new player.

I reckon that Virginia side had a couple of gum Port 19s that didn't play during the season too.

Do you really think you can predict the success of a side from watching their first trial game for the year Pinch hitter, in HWE case, 5 weeks from round 1??? It would be no surprise to suggest that they prob looked like a div 3-4 side in the trial but maybe if you watched them play mid season your thoughts may be a little different.

Good, has had an interrupted pre-season but I think he'll be a very handy hard at it player. Has a bit of fire in his belly.

Interesting to see David Barnes running around in a trial for Henley on Saturday. A huge loss for HWE.

Maxie that is one of the more intelligent posts I have seen you write mate.

Well, I'm glad you asked. Dublin all out for 110. Long Plains got them in the final over with one wicket to spare, thanks to some sensational batting from the tail, with the likes of Pint of Ale, Scotty and J Mac doing a good job in the final few overs.

Grand Final.

Mallala Vs Long Plains @ Mallala 12:30pm start. Should be a beauty.
Odds (based on meetings this year):
Mallala $1.02
Long Plains $9.75

I'll put $10 on Longies just because I love seeing the underdog get up.

Longies will beat Mallala easy. Just need Heath and Sam to compose themselves in the batting. Montgomeries are off and on with their bowling.

Geradis??? Ha ha. Hasn't he played for Two Wells before? Didn't set the world on fire there or at Gawler South. Might set the bar on fire though. Well at least he can piss on it to put it out!
