and the 2 'stars' kicked 2 goals and 1 goal, couple of real champions against decent opposition.

Yes.. big noting themselves Look at their opposition and tell me they did not go on the Footy Show for any other reason than to big note themselves. You can't say they did it to promote the league or to promote the brand of country footy in SA. It was totally all about themselves and degrading Callington and your footy league and it worked well.

Callington have been offered help before from people more than willing to offer input and tangible assistance. It has been refused, phone calls not returned etc. If the information I have heard about how they intend to turn things around is correct, then it's very disappointing that a very short term fix is being considered in the absence of longer term plans that will be more likely to keep the club around in three or more years time.

When I was watching the footy show last night I was really hoping that the Gums fellas would finish by saying something like "but good on the Cally guys for having a dip each week" but was a bit disappointed when they decided not to show any respect for the struggling club.

I am an outsider and don't know much about the Hills comp. I haven't been associated with any footy club for 10+ years so I am a bit out of touch with the world of country football. What I have read on this forum (not just Hills but a number of leagues) makes me wonder if I will ever bother getting involved again. For me sporting clubs, in particular country footy clubs, are groups of people with a common interest(s). This involves the love of watching/competing in the sport but also the great relationships and friendships that are formed. The actual on-field success of the club is only one part of the experience of being involved in such clubs. It seems to me (as an outsider) that nowadays the only thing that seems to matter is on-field success. Clubs all over the state are paying ridiculous amounts of money to lure players and win premierships. That is fine for the AFL, SANFL etc. but after all is said and done we are talking about Country "Amateur" football. The great thing about country football clubs is they give small commiunities an identity. They provide entertainment and something meaningful for the town's youth to do on a weekend and it provides a platform for the residents of those communities to come together and socialise and have fun. For me the league is the vehicle that provides a competition for those clubs to play in. Now I read people saying that these clubs like Sedan & Callington should be relegated/kicked out of the league for not being good enough. I am neither agreeing nor disagreeing with those comments as I don't know much about the clubs/league. I would've thought that people would encourage such clubs to soldier on and keep trying. Whilst it may be a bit inconvenient to have to play them a couple of times a year, surely it would be better to have a club that gets flogged than no club at all? I guess what I am trying to say is, if they have a good bunch of people at their club who enjoy each others company etc. who cares if they are crap? It is HFL not AFL.

I remember about 7 or so years ago Craig Hutchinson hosted a reality TV shoe for Channel 7 called 'The Club' where players auditioned to be a part of the Hammerheads football club..They played in a Footscray based league...

This has merit for Callington !!!
The irony is re Gumeracha flogging them is that Gum are in themselves in quick fix mode

After Ashby 'articulated' his first reply I reckon the panel figured 1 question was enough.
The fact that both of them were there reflected a complete lack of modesty or concern for Callington as a club.
I would be embarassed to go on the footy show and talk up 40 goals if it was against that opposition.
Its like bragging about fighting your way out of a wet paper bag.

i thnk somene is jealous cause they cant kick over a jam tin. they got asked to go on the footy show cause its a record that 2 players kicked 100 goals in the same team and finished on same game. thats why? wasnt for callington.if you wanted to hear bout callington go to there club rooms.plus 40 goals is 40 goals doesnt matter who you play

Did either of the Superstars kick any goals out of their massive '2' goal effort?
Wow, 2 guys kicked a 100 goals in a season from the same club,
Approximately 80 for each would've come against 2 sides in Cally and Sedan, what an achievement.
No question Quentin Grahams efforts with Central District are full of merit and had he gone on the Footy show
to talk about his 4 SANFL Premierships then fine and dandy, but I am surprised that he isn't embarassed
more than proud about the 40 goal day, coz he would've had days that he kicked 4 or 5 that would've been worth more
to him personally and worth more to his club.

It's been mooted that a lot of money be splashed out to buy in players. A LOT of money. If this is correct, then it really is a step backwards. We have all seen examples of clubs doing this for one season, doing okay on field, then the players leave en masse, and put the club straight back to where they are. In the process, loyal players who stuck by in the bad times and get dropped when the new ones come in, get justifiably annoyed and aren't that interested in returning to help out when the new players leave.

A recipe for disaster most times and I'd really hope this isn't seen as the solution out there.
