Funny how for the last 2 weeks, the policy has been that if you don't train or attend the preseason camp, you don't play round 1. This bloke rocks up to Thursday training and he's straight into the A grade. WTF?!!!!

Further to what was said before I spent some of yesterday about the Hills and found if DA was riled about the issue then others were positively furious. Everyone I spoke to were extremely disappointed and wanted to talk about it. Not a good sign for team unity I would think.

DA and JQ another morale dilemma that occurred on the weekend, for your opinion.

U17 team picked Thursday night with the boys that got in extremely exited many missed out. Later that night and the next day it was discovered that boys training in the SANFL did not get in the team and made themselves available for Hills footy. These are your two best players and you are playing one of the tough teams.

What do you do as coach?
My immediate thought is: pick your best team.
I had some sh#t scoreboard results when playing. Purple patches like what Lofty is experiencing, don't happen often.
As an u/17 coach I would make it apparent to "all and sundry" what the deal will be during the year ie. team is picked on Thurs night, but may be adjusted to accommodate the lads that missed out on SANFL duties. We used to do it with Pahl and Burch in A grade.
Mind you, the SANFL ;ads that missed out on SANFL that week would still have to fit my game plan ie if one's a ruckman and I've already picked some talls that can do the job, so be it.
It's a tough one.

PS You are new and do not yet have phone numbers of all players.[/quote]

Mate, the players imported over the last 2 years AREN'T getting anything near what is being bandied about.

My comment related to the new bloke. He trains once and gets picked in the A's breaking predetermined team rules. Anyone who tells me he doesn't get paid is a liar.

However, we had 3 association players in our B's and 1 missing a game altogether. Do you think we are paying these guys to play B's and sit on the fence?

Last year we had a good mix of locals/imports. If you didn;t play well, you played B's.

  Gee you are easy to stir up DA

I too don't really want to start up the whole money thing again but you must admit, you did leave the door a little open there. :P

Coaches Dilemma

Postby Alaska » Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:58 pm

Well DA the coach did exactly as you would have done, but we lost by a couple.
So JQ was it worth it for the first game of the season and the sake of some team harmony, I suppose only time will tell.

NO I said "do you think we are paying these blokes to play B's"

Which in simple terms is:

we are not paying b graders.

b graders no get paid

play b's no pay.

What happened at Lofty happens all the time at league clubs. You train all pre-season sloggin your guts out then some ex-afl player or Vic country league player gets recruited to the club and takes the position you earned. Of course you have a right to be pissed, but what is important is how you react. Do you knuckle down and take some other blokes A grade spot on pure merit, or do you bitch and moan and consider leaving to a lesser club/league where a grade spots might not be such a challenge. There is nothing sweeter than shoving it up some coach who didn't rate ya through simple hard work and perserverence.

As I said, I don't think it is the best thing to do as far as winning goes INITIALLY, but I bet if it comes to finals time those players your coach showed faith in will repay in full. Look at last years Mt Lofty U17's versus Blackwoods.

The players will respect him for that call IMO!

out of all the work brothers simon is the best footballer. andrew the youngest kicked 99 goals last year in the u17's i think but he will never be an a grader and nick is a dud in my opinion big and useless and he has red hair

Sorry, I'm not sure exactly what you're saying.
They lost by a couple, but was it the best team on the park? I couldn't make it out to Ronnie.

HAHAHAHA, yeah it was a 2 all draw. Which for a Spurs fan who hasn't seen their team beat the goons for 8 years now in a game where goons are under manned, and played at Spurs home, is effectively a loss. VERY disappointing.

And Crowmuncher, no B graders got paid. Lets not get too silly or I might lose it again like I did about 4 weeks ago.

Although, I'm getting paid $200 per word as Mt Lofty's PR representative to sit here and clear up any issues directed at the club.

It's a good gig!

No it was not the best team on the park the SANFL kids did not play. One turned up and ran drinks.
It was the best team on Thursday night though.
We lost the game by a couple of goals.

Righto.
Depends what the coach believes in I guess. I like to see the best team on the park, and chase success. If kids are making SANFL trainings, they're serious about their footy and I'm sure would be training at Devils if they weren't down the hill training.
Bounce back and win another flag!!
