He played, didn't do enough (?) and they were well beaten. Early days for Muffy still.

Good to hear Raymond, Maxwell, Mohor, Brown running around in the Maggie twos on Saturday with Media Man Graeme Sinclair at the helm. Just like old times.

Sorry touch of sarcasm there. Shane Mohor was one of the crew, apparently didn't move too well but the Maggies had to ring around to fill the team.

Gee I hope all Hills Footy fans fingers are still in good repair, there would be a few chewed down to the bone after that thrilling round of football we just witnessed!! Nail biting match of the week goes to Lobey/Hanhdorf for the tigers narrow 8 goal win. Hope Div2 supporters took a hat to the game because there was plenty of daylight between all opposition sides. 5 games, all 100+ point blowouts. Hopefully this round will be forgotten forever and we can see some tight ones this weekend. Central div match-ups are looking much more even this week. Thank god

There will be closer games but it also looks like some bigger gaps appearing. The Advocate is right to, teams must recruit, but getting the balance right is the key. Locals spend the money at the bar, run the raffles, cook the food, mow the oval etc etc.

Big bald bloke for Blackwood looked unfit but seemed to stop everything. Katinyeri a bit disappointing- the first time I have seen him- stuff he does is very good, just didn't do enough at key times. Big rumour about was Brad Smith to return?? a Good start for the "Turtles" Blackwood boys.
big bald bloke you could be reffering to I think is Damien Gigney who has spent the last 5 seasons down in the GSFL after playing for Glenelg

Did Muffy actually play on the ball much. It was mentioned on this forum late last week he was picked to play across half forward, would be a waste really.

Re the 2 other River Murray recruits -

I noticed Howes in the best players, will be a handy player this year.

How did Graetz go? I think i noticed he kicked a goal, does anyone know what position he played? I would presume he'd probably be playing in a forward pocket.

Gee if that is him- changed a bit since Glenelg days- played well considering my mail had said he hardly trains! Pity about his other mate Carberry- had he kicked straight they would have won by more- Saint I am assuming you were at the game and have seen a bit of Hills footy what did you think of the game- I kinow it was only the 1st week but found it difficult to line up standard- also tough not knowing how each team compare to the rest of the comp??

Simon Work got a run again for the Central Div. Woods didn't he ? Worky and his brothers are good local kids who deserve their chance. Love to see the Work bros all in the same team , back to the grand days of the Jones boys at the Woods.

Muffy played most of the day across half forward and found it hard to get into it. When it came in that Gigney who is twice his size took it and rebounded it back.

Howes played on ball and rested in the forward line showed some good signs.

Graetz played full forward and was well held. He kicked 8 in the internal trial the week before but playing on a teenager.

Funny how for the last 2 weeks, the policy has been that if you don't train or attend the preseason camp, you don't play round 1. This bloke rocks up to Thursday training and he's straight into the A grade. WTF?!!!![/quote]

Further to what was said before I spent some of yesterday about the Hills and found if DA was riled about the issue then others were positively furious. Everyone I spoke to were extremely disappointed and wanted to talk about it. Not a good sign for team unity I would think.

DA and JQ another morale dilemma that occurred on the weekend, for your opinion.

U17 team picked Thursday night with the boys that got in extremely exited many missed out. Later that night and the next day it was discovered that boys training in the SANFL did not get in the team and made themselves available for Hills footy. These are your two best players and you are playing one of the tough teams.

What do you do as coach?

PS You are new and do not yet have phone numbers of all players.

DA: I did my homework last night on the blokes that didn't get a game this week and would have if the C grade. Warbo rocked up to training two weeks ago and ran laps. Was unlucky and is likely to get a game this week. Kerian is a battler but tries hard. Often takes off for weeks at a time. Poochie trained once. Brooks has been to two trainings. The big fella they got is from Centrals and was recruited due to Temme telling the club he wanted to play golf and not football. He is 6'8ft. I would have played him as well. Aparently smashed them in the ruck.

I think its a good problem to have. For the record 16 locals played saturday out of 21.

Having been closely involved at a variety of clubs it is great to have these edicts- ie if you don't train you don't play- but that is not always possible or in the best interests of the club- do you sacrifice putting your best team on the park and risk losing the game- and penalising other players in the team?? Recruits from league clubs- or underage teams how do you cater for them- many of whom may not train with the club at all and only know Thursday night if they are available?? Works great in theory but I am not sure if it is that easy in practice

Having plenty of numbers is a good problem to have, I don't doubt that at all. I recall training on Tuesdays 4 years ago where we had 7 players. It SUCKED!

The problem I have is the guy doesn't know anyone, trains once and we probably forked out a $hitload for him. And if you saw the game, he didn't smash them in the ruck.

I may have sounded riled, but your description is exactly how I really felt too!!!!!

On your dilemma, (I would always have numbers well before round 1 cos I'm and organisation freak) I'd stick with the team I picked, ask the SANFL boys to come out and run drinks to get involved (to guage how serious they were about playing with their mates) then when picking a side the following week, name the SANFL boys (provided they came out to run drinks) with local emergencies.

I would suck as a coach, and would be shithouse at it, but I'd communicate my decisions to all and sundry.

I didn't think you blokes were paying that much for your players and they were ther because they love the club?

In a group of 40-50 proud young blokes, its impossible to keep everyone happy all the time. But if coaches make rules they should apply to everyone, not just the seemingly expendable 'locals. It aint good for the chemistry between local and import players. In saying that, if your ever unhappy with what a coach has done, be a man (ie adult) and have a quiet word in private. The Stirling carpark (from what the grapevine told me) aint the place for such discussions.

Mate, the players imported over the last 2 years AREN'T getting anything near what is being bandied about.

My comment related to the new bloke. He trains once and gets picked in the A's breaking predetermined team rules. Anyone who tells me he doesn't get paid is a liar.

However, we had 3 association players in our B's and 1 missing a game altogether. Do you think we are paying these guys to play B's and sit on the fence?

Last year we had a good mix of locals/imports. If you didn;t play well, you played B's.
