Lofty's senior sides went thru over a decade without success before spending big.
It is unfortunate that to be successful clubs need to buy up big and lose local players but it is sometimes a neccessary evil to ensure clubs survive. I know the Hills were looking at Lofty going back to div 2 until COCO decided enough was enough and we need to spend some of the cash.

I went thru some of those rank times, but Div 2? I didn't think the league was going that far, our senior colts were quite successful.
I know that 'maintaining' those colts for senior footy was hard when we were getting thumped, but I could see some things being put into place at the time that gave me confidence eg the lights.
I just wish I was fit enough to enjoy it all!!

Come out to training and you will get fit. I dont think you have the stones. Will you prove me wrong? Perhaps you could don the boots with the athlete in the C grade if you dont want to make a full commitment..

what is the consensus regarding the c grade comp i have read what clubs are going to participate do you guys think that it will be a winner or not? sounds like a good concept especially for the clubs with excess numbers and would only add depth and possibly put pressure on those in the b grade assuming that the blokes in the C's would want to play higher when required

My thoughts on the C grade...

It's a great idea, but i think it could only work for a few weeks at the start of the season.

Although we had stacks of numbers last year, the Super B's won the courier cup with only 1 player on the bench. There were a few other weeks during the middle of the year when although we fielded full sides, we were using all fit players.

The numbers seem to swell right at the start and end of the season with a drop mid season due to injuries etc.

IMO, based on a 4 team comp, there could be 3 weeks of matches in April/May and same again in August/Sept.

Fair point about the numbers dropping off during the cold wet months due to "injuries" real or not DA.

I don't know much about the way the C grade will be run yet but I would have thought that the two sides playing each other could come to an agreement to play 16 aside or something similar if numbers where getting a bit thin? I mean, it is C grade, blokes wouldn't be playing at all if a C grade comp wasn't available. I am sure if the clubs commit to getting up and running soon the comp could become pretty successful

No more advocates unfortunately. Going overseas, so I'll be out of the loop.

Gald you enjoyed it mate, it was fun while it lasted.

And TEX you are so big and tough hiding behind a nic in an internet forum dishing out abuse. Funny thing is, I know who you are.

You wouldn't have the balls to say the sort of crap you've been posting here to my face you gutless wonder. Good thing Meadows stuck to their small pond, or I might have come out of retirement again.

Hey LOSER you can't come out of FORCED retirement. :finga: Well maybe when that C Grade comp starts u may get a gig in the back pocket

You're a real classy bloke Tex! (Sarcasm, in cased you missed it)
DA not forced into retirement and could walk into our side this week, even if he needed crutches!
Tough selections this week, premiership players from last year will miss out on a B Grade berth (besides those injured).

Lots of newbies for the Super B's!!

Early tip for the B Grade Mail medal - Weeksy as long as he doesn't get poached by the A(FL) side too often.

Runner up - Tom Maslin

You're right wolfie TV would be ka-put if it wasn't for G.Hughes construction. I'm not sure but i think you'll find that their juniors are mostly on loan from other clubs with too many kids. The problem is if clubs don't have the ready's they will collapse, so the strong will survive. Is that what we want?
Just Quietly, i think there is room here for debate about money, it's would be a lot easier if the mt Lofty boys didn't arc up every time, after all it is a football forum. You guy's are a bit hyper-sensitive when it comes to $, just relax and don't react. As i said before full credit for the work put in and benefit gained.

I agree, it's a forum, I have no dramas with that.
But pretty much every second day the money topic is re-visited, with nothing really coming of it.
And i know what's coming next...if I don't want to comment, I don't have to. But there are normally a few people (from different clubs) who arc up, because we've heard it all before.
But hey, play on, I wasn't out to stop anyone's opinion. Just sick of it being directed at Lofty each time (and TV cops a bit too).

JQ does anything really come out of anything on here? If your at the top everyone wants to drag you down. I have some thoughts on the money issue and time permitting i'll share them some time. I not some pretentious guru either.

I was compelled to register and post upon seeing the old money issue is making headlines again. Funny that it seems that the only people that bitch about who is getting paid and how much are people NOT affiliated with the club they are bagging. In my experience I have nor have team mates begruged or even questioned anybody their match payements (then again all recruits I have played with have not been the money grubbing club slut type that are around the place, they have embraced the club and become mates with the locals). My opinion on money in footy is- salary caps at amatuer clubs are a farce, get over it, its survival of the fittest so if you are bitching about how much clubs are spending and how your club is 'honest'and spendthrift, get down to your local pub on thursday and friday night and sell some bloody meat raffle tickets and help increase your clubs coffers. A rich club is a hard working club. Secondly, if you have ever had a crack at league footy and survived a few pre-seasons, you have earnt the right to be paid a bit of coin. If you think it aint fair these blokes get a bit, toughen up and head down the freeway and give it a go. I garauntee any whingers will be quickly weeded out and sent packing.

Dangermouse i agree 100%, im not even involved in the comp up there. watched Lofty play a trial game and was very impressesd. Would loved to see them play Morphett Vale from SFL. From what i saw they are the best two teams running round. The reason i asked was that i heard, what i think is a rediculious amount, off near 100,000?

I have absolutely nothing to do with the Hills league, but I've been working a bit at Nairne this week and the oval up there looks an absolute treat. Are all HFL ovals and clubs in that sort of shape? And bought a Courier at the general store, how good is the coverage in the paper? Half page write-up on the Div 2 games (with photos) and detailed season previews for both comps, would be nice if the Messenger got behind teams in the area like the Courier seems to for the HFL.

Congratulations Armytank! Co-captain =D> of the B's well done for all that hard work and shedding the outer layers.
Interesting selections at IB with Red Muff left out of both teams, perhaps a comeback via the C's, first choice A' grader last 2 seasons dropped to the B's . Donks still in the B's, 2 ruckmen in the A's "luxury".
Strong I/C bench in the A's especially that Jake fella I predict he will do well this year. Muffy could only get a spot on the flank to. :)

Let the games begin!
