Hi there, long time listener, first time caller...

I was compelled to register and post upon seeing the old money issue is making headlines again. Funny that it seems that the only people that bitch about who is getting paid and how much are people NOT affiliated with the club they are bagging. In my experience I have nor have team mates begruged or even questioned anybody their match payements (then again all recruits I have played with have not been the money grubbing club slut type that are around the place, they have embraced the club and become mates with the locals). My opinion on money in footy is- salary caps at amatuer clubs are a farce, get over it, its survival of the fittest so if you are bitching about how much clubs are spending and how your club is 'honest'and spendthrift, get down to your local pub on thursday and friday night and sell some bloody meat raffle tickets and help increase your clubs coffers. A rich club is a hard working club. Secondly, if you have ever had a crack at league footy and survived a few pre-seasons, you have earnt the right to be paid a bit of coin. If you think it aint fair these blokes get a bit, toughen up and head down the freeway and give it a go. I garauntee any whingers will be quickly weeded out and sent packing.

No more advocates unfortunately. Going overseas, so I'll be out of the loop.

Gald you enjoyed it mate, it was fun while it lasted.

And TEX you are so big and tough hiding behind a nic in an internet forum dishing out abuse. Funny thing is, I know who you are.

You wouldn't have the balls to say the sort of crap you've been posting here to my face you gutless wonder. Good thing Meadows stuck to their small pond, or I might have come out of retirement again.

I agree entirely, money does make a football club go round. You guys think all the money that a football club has to pay out is paying players??!? I dont think so! Think about all the other outgoings that football clubs have, its like a buisness! Some clubs CHOOSE to work very hard to make money. Classic example is Mt Lofty, look at their fundraising; meat raffles, 100 club, raffles on games day, not to mention all the money that comes in from meals and bar takings. If your football club has the drive to make this money then let them spend it on what they want (like talented players who make the game interesting to watch). There is nothing stopping other clubs like Bridgewater etc from making more money and playing players (and perhaps then being a little more competitive), it ultimately comes down to the attitudes not only of the president and committee members (for getting sponsors) but also of the players that are willing to get out there and sell raffle tickets.

Now stop complaining. If you want to keep the money/salary cap crap going start a new message board, its boring.

you win more than you loose but are you a dominant club or just an average club to take the next step i would suggest that some money would need to be spent but spent well as lofty have done. I am not from lofty but i have to admit that whatever they have spent has been spent smartly as their record shows

Can't wait for round one hey all you central boys! Really interesting matchups all over the hills this week-

Ironbank v Blackwood: The two busiest central teams recruitment wise- hopefully bankers recruits fire up in a close one

Onkas v Birdwood: Unfortunately Onkas will kick an absolute cricket score versus probably... a hockey score perhaps? Big respect to birdwood though, it you can compete with Onkas you'll go alright this year

Uraidla v Bridgey: A few new faces at the patch, and Joel Brown will be happy to be back home, sorry bridgy but that man's tally will beat your whole team's

Lofty v Barker: Defending a flag is even tougher than winning one. Good thing they've got barker first up but they won't be as bad as everyone thinks

Hanhdorf v Lobey: Close contest, worth a watch. Ben Dray may be the recruit of the year for lobey. Lobey in a coin toss

You really sound like you're onto it, LVIS, so tell us.

Someone put the question, i added some input. The comment about the treasurer came from someone IN your club. I wasn't having a crack at MLFC, good luck to you. People at the club got off there backsides and WORKED for the money to fund your improvement. If other clubs had the money they would do it to. We look like we are in for a cracker of a season in country div. this year because nearly all clubs are spending some dosh. Some 7-8 clubs in all with a chance for the final 5. Someone else made the comment that the salary cap is a farce - SPOT ON. The purpose of the salary cap is to try and even up the comp. but at an amateur level, how are they going to find out about who gets what if it doesn't go through the books. G Hughes construction has a few on the payroll that coincedentaly happen to play football for "free". BUT we will lose clubs because they can not keep up. IS THAT GOOD FOR FOOTBALL? Some of you will be sitting back and say "stiff". Have a think about it when you're taking your grandkids to the soccer in 20 years time.

It is a tuff one LVIS. Torrens Valley were border line extinction until money man Hughes rolled into town now they are a strong club and have junior teams making finals , no doubt attracted by the success. It will be interesting to see if the club struggles when he eventually leaves.
Lofty's senior sides went thru over a decade without success before spending big.
It is unfortunate that to be successful clubs need to buy up big and lose local players but it is sometimes a neccessary evil to ensure clubs survive. I know the Hills were looking at Lofty going back to div 2 until COCO decided enough was enough and we need to spend some of the cash.
