The SACFL review crossed my desk this morning. Haven't had time to go through it cover to cover but from my brief scan of it and a 10 minute chat to the league president it looks like it could mean a fair shake-up.

His words were "it's easy to be negative about it". Read into that what you will.

Looks like it will recommend that Penola and Naracoorte join a "super league" consisting of four gambier teams, Millicent, Port Mac (maybe?), and one vic team.

Will be interesting to see what comes of it, and the ramifications for the remaining clubs. Can't imagine too many Kyby or Lucindale blokes lining up to play for Naracoorte.

I'd probably go down and have a kick with some mates at Glencoe in the Mid SE if Borders weren't around. Basically the same amount of travel as I'd need to do should I go to Naracoorte and have to go to gambier every other week.

Interesting post, AD, I wonder if that will start the ball rolling, with a domino effect in relation to nearby Leagues/Clubs, and elsewhere in the state.

Port Mac is an interesting one, I know they've been quite strong in recent years, but they haven't exactly been a dominant club over the last 10/15 of so years. I'm assuming their name has been mooted as much for their geographical location, as their current on field strength.

I best add that I haven't read anything about Port Mac in the report. Just haven't had a chance to pore (pour?) through it properly yet.

Someone else (a current KNTFL coach, not affiliated with Border Districts in 2012) mentioned to me Port Mac, and possibly Robe at the beginning of the season.

She'll be an interesting situation. There's a small note about it appearing in tomorrow's Naracoorte Herald, and will be on the paper's website. I will link to it at first opportunity for those interested who cannot get a copy of the paper.

Wouldn't mean that Border Districts doesn't have a team though does it?

True- we've got our own issues as a club that will affect us much greater than this review.

Having had a closer look, it appears to be a restructure of the wbfl with the KNT getting involved down the track.

Seems from 2014 (possibly 2013) Naracoorte and Penola will be in the "super league" which is the gambier league.

The other teams (Borders, Kyby, Lucindale, Keith, Bordertown, Kingston, KL, Padthaway, Mundulla) will ideally continue to run as a league, with the premier having a chance to step up into the super league.

Interesting scenarios!

Naracoorte and Penola heading straight into a Superleague would be interesting as both are mid-bottom range in this years table and may struggle more than a smaller town like Mundulla in that Superleague.
Also interesting if the Premier/Runner up eligible for 'promotion' to Superleague came from the current top 3 - KL Bordertown and Keith - geographically a long way from the rest of the Superleague!

In my opinion this has all be done with the games best interests at heart and can work well with constructive feedback from the clubs/leagues involved. Good of them to open discussion on the topic before making a decision and hopefully everyone involved has their say before the deadline!

I really do wonder what the Tatiara teams would do if they didn't want a bar of this superleague.

K/L could theoretically join the Horsham and District or Wimmera Leagues.

Keith/Btown/Mundulla to the Mallee?

From my memory, there was some talk of this going back to the mid 1990's. Western Border, Mid South East and KNFL all combining and then looked a bit like the english soccer by having 3 divisions. Then as the years progressed, it was the bottom 2 or 3 teams in div 1 and 2 would get relegated and the top 2 or 3 in div 2 and 3 were going to get promoted.
Travelling would be a issue and also the strength and numbers in the junior grades.
This possible new concept looks interesting.

Going on last years result, I'd say s.gilhaus to win the medal by 10 votes. But you could throw a blanket over 3 or 4 klu players for the medal.

Was at Padthaway. Conditions didn't lend it to be a great game, but it was still a good contest in parts.

Bordertown's skill level let them down at parts. Keith much cleaner and won by about 20 points in the end.

Wilson, Makin, Hunt, Farrier best for Keith in my eyes.

Tom Redden was completely nullified by Bordertown's Luke Exton. Best for the Roosters was Frederick - who kicked a few - then hard to say. Thought Copestick and Vunitabua battled hard and Rory Tink was doing ok in the ruck.

I'm not surprised Bordertown lost to be honest. I watched them versus Padthaway last week and stuck around for a few frothies at the club afterwards. All the talk was about Mundulla making the finals and how they hoped Padthaway would knock them out today so they wouldn't have to play them again. Bugger all was said about beating Keith and having a crack at Kaniva. I found it quite astonishing.

Given Keith's last result against Bordertown, and the fact Bordertown have beaten Mundulla once in the past 10 years I'd say they were being realistic.
