Ben Pohl is looking in very decent form currently and should get a few games up forward in the A's this year

give me a break, pohly will be big in juniors terms... from what ive seen of him over all his footballling years; on a lead the bloke couldnt catch a cold in antarctica and hes not big enough to be one out in senior footy. benny waldron only stood out in juniors coz he was marginally larger than ne1 else but the bloke has the skills of a freight train. the smiths and breeny are standout juniors for bridgy oh obviously michael miff.

Birdwood SHOULD knock off an A6 side rooster. Any accomplished side in div2 would be on a par with A4-A5 in my opinion.

Passed away suddenly @ Bellevue Heights as a result of choking on dummy when inhaling, prior to his big dummy spit because everybody is picking on him.

Did kersbrook have Francou playing or is this an urban myth that he will be in a Brookers jumper this year?

Re: UMPIRES

Postby The Crumber » Tue Apr 03, 2007 10:27 pm

[quote="Alaska"]Well once again the topic was top of the agenda in last nights HFL shindig I understand.
This season every club will have to supply 2 HFL certified umpires each week for colts and B's.
If not the match is forfeited.
Fairly short notice to arrange certified umpires for the week after Easter for Country.
I can understand that the HFL are trying to put the pressure back on the clubs from where the most likely chance of picking up umpires will come.
However, will it not drive a wedge further between the clubs and the HFL where the clubs will need to try to keep their "certified" umpires and not want them to go to the Umpires panel?
Or even try and coax back umpires already on the panel?

Perhaps this is your chance DA to approach Coco with a proposition he now cannot refuse say $200 - $300 a game.
Could give you some drinking money for the A's. :partyman:

Also on the meeting I heard a Police task force was present and that they would be targeting the Hills leauge this season on grog being brought into grounds with car search's and the like. This puts even more pressure on the poor volunteer at the gate to search cars in the rain with a line of vehicles disappearing down the road. Clubs are going to have to start hiring security guards. (perhaps another business opportunity)
Crumber once again I see the poor volunteers being undervalued or perhaps being driven away?

More good calls Alaska; we think along the same lines. In my experience, it's initially easy to recruit potential club umpires. But once they've had a taste of abuse from their own supporters for making human decisions and calling it as they see it, they seem to decide it's easier to stay behind the fence. Hence, the gap between the clubs and the HFL widens again. I don't think I've ever met a club umpire who does the job for the money. They all do it to make life easier for their clubs and most are not interested in being part of the panel.
The 'grog in grounds' is another issue again. First and foremost, the so called laws need clarification. The HFL state in their Budget that 'it is illegal to bring alcohol into the ground', yet patrons would not read that until they've already sinned. And does this 'law' follow the club or the ground itself? At the ground nearest me. cricket is played in summer and no such searches apply. It would never be tolerated. No-one is at the gate to search anyway. Methinks Owen and Co are trying to frighten anyone who doesn't drink West End into submission as has been their thing for years now. We really need a test-case to see if these laws actually stand up. I'll wager they don't. As a volunteer who will take on most jobs around the club, I wouldn't touch a task which required me to search my neighbour's cars! The audacity of it all! And where is the signage at the entrance of all the grounds? As I see it, this law effectively means Joe Blow the family man can't take the missus and kids for a run with the dog at the local oval on a Sunday arvo with a tinny or two. Where's the logic HFL?
Then again, I've seen so many illogical decisions made by this 'Governing Body' over the years to wonder if reps from the Junior Colts could do it better!
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

BBC they where from Glenelg not Sturt. Nathan Wood and Winstanley where the two recognised names. They also had a handy AFL premiership player running around. Kim Koster. Either way no excuses they where a better side on the day.

Poor DA...he died at age minus 5 months...nice start LVIS.
DA is good value, hopefully the little goer returns!
On Francou, can't see him donning a jumper for anyone, he has media commitments now.

who would these young blokes from sturt 19s and reserves be? could u provide some names please??

mostly from the bays mate. Tasborski, Devisser, Yeomans, Winstanley, Hereen, Koster, Woods, Kimber, Doyle all ex league/reserves players at Bay. Couple from Sturt but mostly brom Bays. A loss in the pre-season never hurt anyone, Lofty will be a better side for it.

it was only 4 goals BTW and wud have been closer if not for some questionable umpiring decisions close to goal.

I believe the issue relates to the Alcohol licence that the facility has (rec ground, footy club, cricket club etc.).
Last year the Liquor Commissioner visited a number of grounds and found people consuming alcohol outside of the prescribed areas defined in each licence. You can vary these for special events and the like but standard rules apply to each licence.
I believe warnings and some small fines were applied.
They discovered a hundred percent non compliance so have now contacted SAPOL (hence the taskforce) to follow up with undercover raids to enforce the law. This also now ties in with the intelligence being collected by SAPOL on DUI/Accident cases where they ask where the last drink was consumed. (Expect Booze buses outside grounds)

Another issue with this is, to actually have the bar open, prescribed servers are required. However, to facilitate this an actual prescribed person with full accreditation (read money and six weeks) has to be onsite when ever the bar is open.
Once again the hardest working members of the club will have more responsibility and have to spend more time there without getting cut.

On a brighter note I believe a meeting will be held after Easter with Club Presidents to facilitate a C Grade comp.
Uraidla, Mt Lofty and Ironbank and one other are involved.
The HFL are not involved, so it could be the start of a breakaway league, I agree bring out the reps from the Junior Colts should be well organised then!

I went and had a look at the game and if you think it was only 4 goals you must've been watching a different game. Birdwood looked like about a 7-8 goal better side. It looked like the coach changed things around quite considerably after qtr time when they were up by about 5 goal. Birdwood were up by 6 goal when the kids stopped running the scoreboard in the third qtr and Birdwood seemed to finish stronger than Heccies.

Neither side looked too bad, there were a couple of really good players for both sides aswell as some pretty average ones.

The play seem to be quite flowing with some pretty solid hits with a couple of Heccies boys coming off second best. Mypaddock, how did the guy coming off with blood all over his face finish up? Any bad damage?

I know Ironbank last year received a warning because people were drinking on the hill which is all of 5m outside the drinking zone. If they are going to fine clubs over minor offences like this Coutnry Football Clubs will fall apart. The Hill is an icon at Ironbank. You start to regulate these clubs to much and some of their character goes. Then again the scenes thathappened last years Div 2 GF can't happen again but didn't this only happen because they weren't playing and had been drinking all day. During the year players wouldn't start drinking till after their game so this would be 3pm or 5pm and so none of these scenes would happen during the minor rounds I wouldn't have thought

C Grade comp will be great idea. I know Ironbank has probably 60 players wanting a game so good to see these guys won't miss out. Any ideas as to when this will be played? Is it a viable option for other clubs numbers wise??

Ahh so its iconic is it?? I remember coping sh*t loads of abuse from that 'hill' (i think its more a mound) by drunks, who seemed more interested in watching the netball than the footy.

Nothing wrong with some of the talent on the netball court

The drunks and abuse would be pretty similar to the balcony and BBQ area at goat park I would imagine
