with all this money being floated around by clubs, it would be nice to see the umpires
spend some money to get more umpires up!! i think the hills umpires are pretty good
but every year they seem to lose an ump or two and rarely gain a new one.
perhaps some ex players could don an orange geurnsey and have a crack??!!
maybe the umps could be paid a bit more $$ to make an incentive for new ones to join...?

It isn't that it shouldn't be mentioned, but has been done...a few times....and then some!
To get you up to date from my perspective at Mt Lofty, there are a couple(3-4) of key recruits 2 years ago that were targeted and offered a bit of coin (not as much as some people have bandied about). They have encouraged mates to come and play, most of these guys are not getting much (some just token petrol money). They all STAY for the club atmosphere which has been enhanced over the past couple of seasons. They are all good blokes who have been recruited for their off field value as well as their obvious footy talent, not just buying the best players.

DEVIL ANNOUNCEMENT: C Grade tomorrow against SHOC cancelled, they couldn't get as many numbers as we could.

the fact is plenty of teams have tried to buy premierships and almost all have failed, so if a team is consistently dominant, than it's not just the money, though that does get them off to a great start, it has to be more than that. A strong established club that brings in some big gun players will go well, while a weak club that brings them in, no matter how many, will still eventually fall over

Just because Blackwood have spent alot of money doesn't mean theyre gonna be good does it? Didn't they pick up guys well into their 30s ? Not exactly a future in that!! Surely theyre stacks of juniors wouldve been the way to build the club and not just the quick fix. How did they go up at the loxton carnival or whatever it was they went to?? Know they didn't do too flash in the 20 20 games. Heard rumours couple these older recruits have already started breaking down..... but rumours so i may be wrong.

I have to agree with you here TD. The number of umpires have decreased over the past few year. I don't think that the umpires get paid enough for what they have to put up with. I think that the only solution to get some more umpires is to make it worthwhile for them. i.e lots more $$$$

As for the Ironbank blokes I doubt that Ironbank will be better without them, I saw there game against Kangarilla and they could do with a couple of blokes there size.

tex you are an agrade pole jockey morry had the chance to stay at ib but want more coin than what was on offer . he had been at the club 4 5 years approx and tarque about the same time both were good mates with ex and were 2 of the 1st blokes to jump ship when the going got tough some mates as 4 the lack of big blokes we may be a little short but the game u saw against kangy we were missing widdo and moppy plus have since gained gratzy as well so a bit of tall timber has been gained .by losing these 2 to meadows it has opened up oppertunities 4 more players to be part of the TEAM not winge about where you should or shouldnt be playing or just kicking or handballing to each other. i hope u dont expect these boys to give u the ball to much because if one is close to the other you wont get a sniff shamese
