Toughcall training was good, had 27 there with 3 not training due to other commitments.

Marcus was there and is keen and Mitch will play if picked.

So what does your club do for the week off? Do you guys still train both nights then get together sat? I know Compass are training both nights and having a light session on saturday.

Cuzzy every club is represented in there. (MC) is Mount Compass and (SA) is Saints.

I was wondering the same thing whether LF was encouraged to pick a player from every team like they do with the times team of the year.

Will be interesting to see who gets picked tonight at training for the first time in years there will 8-9 players miss out on selection.

Nick Warren has done the job before and done it well. I think Wes Glass was the skipper last year.

I heard a funny story about Portlock from last years zone champs. Apparantly the coaching staff appointed Portlock vice captain of the side and asked him to show some leadership on and off the field in an attempt to curb his Grenville Dietrich style match preparation. To his credit, Mitch took the roll on board and was even heard telling some of the more senior members of squad to pull their heads in at the pub on the Saturday night! A little responsibility seems to bring out his best. I'm also lead to believe that Mitch has become somewhat of an expert with footy cliches, managing to avoid providing his opposition with any ammunition or creating the slightest controversy with lines like "we look forward to the challenge" and always down playing his sides own chances. Surely his ability to say a lot without saying much at all would make Mitch a great association captain.

Thought id post something on the association game on the weekend! The 1 point margin was a good indication of how the game was, a fast paced one that had plenty of exciting moments. Matt Hodge running around CHF was potent and dangerous, the move of Love up forward was a good one as i believe he kicked 5, all the boys in the middle were good, worked hard both ways and as the game went on gelled a lot better and sparked the 3rd quarter revival that we had. Footner and Mcdonald were rocks down back as all the other defenders were very good. Glass then Elliot were good on Rigney and altho he kicked 6 goals a lot of those were unstoppable.

Well done again GSFL lads, plenty of pride and spirit was shown and we were well undersized so to get up was a real thrill and a credit to everyone who wore the jumper!!

Association football seems well and truly alive in Great Southern BJ by the sound of your enthusiasm and the scores by the under 17 and 15. Two great wins and to top it off a nailbiter in the Seniors. How was the GSFL heirarchy after the game? Is there any chance the old chestnut of Loivelock Shield could return. Southern was pumped by the Amateurs and Hills were embarrassed by Barossa, so it did nothing for their comps. The four associations have to get back to the table and make it happen.

Thing I found pleasing TC was the attitude of the U15's towards association footy right from the get go. I think off hand we had an orginal squad 82 and 75 made themselves available. Through the process only 4 pulled out and 2 of those were through injury so it shows how keen the juniors are. I think we unleashed some real talent in the juniors, but best of all they gelled brilliantly as a team and were all desperate to play and do well. And to answer an earlier question we picked the squad on merit it just happened that every club was represented.

By the way did anybody think it was stange that the umpires wore a shirt that clashed badly with the River Murray Jumpers? Surely any colour would have been better than orange. What happened to White?

LF i have spoken to umpire hierarchy over this, the only reason i was given was that it is too expenisive to buy another set of uniforms for a one off match! Thats umpires for you, very poor.

Was mentioned on the RMFL thread that one of the GSFL players broke their arm on Saturday, anyone know who this player was?

ROUND 9 JUNE 14TH
MT COMPASS V MCLAREN
MYPONGA/SELLICKS V WILLUNGA
VICTOR HARBOR V YANKALILLA
STRATHALBYN V ENCOUNTER BAY
SAINTS V LANGHORNE CK

Compass, Burdett, Maxfield and Bailey to be too strong with Webb and Kahl to have a good battle in ruck.
Willunga, Pongy are always tough at home tho and get up for games against us.
Victor, Yank could win this one, beating the Creeks by just outworking them means they could be on the move.
Strath, Too tall and have great runners. Love and Rankine for the Bays need to have huge games for them to get up.
Creeks, expect them to be very fired up and should do some damage at Goolwa Oval!

MT COMPASS V MCLAREN
MYPONGA/SELLICKS V WILLUNGA
VICTOR HARBOR V YANKALILLA
STRATHALBYN V ENCOUNTER BAY
SAINTS V LANGHORNE CK

Compass by 3 goals - have only just been beating the lower ranked sides which would be a worry for them
Willunga by 15 goal - will be close for half the match, but a couple of lapses against Willunga and your down by 15 goals
Victor by 5 goal - Can't see Yank backing their last round performance up
Strathalbyn by 7 goals - too much run and depth for bays to cover
Creeks by 7 goals - will get the win but no game will be easy for them as the lower sides know they are definately beatable

Please explain to me how the depth at Strath has been boosted over night in comparison to 2007?
