Who were the full backs that struck the most amount of fear through ya Plugger?
Or who at least was your toughest opponents.
The toughest fullback i encounted from South was definatly Craig Hiskins. Duffy lacked skill and strength but could match most with his pace. There were a few others who got thrown back but generally the damage had already been done.

South had some sucess in the late 80's / early 90's sure but no way would they of been one of the hardest as Beegrader has suggested. During that era Riverton & Willaston were two clubs that made you earn your kicks.

How about urself Osama ?
Who did you play for Plugger?

ps, dont think Hiskins played at full back much, always up forward if I remember correctly.
How about Brooks Plugger... he often mopped up full forwards back in those days...
Forgot about Brooko , he was easily one of the harder South boys that never shirked a issue... fair call Ed.

With his 4 premiership medallions weighing him down his body may have aged quicker than his 'timeless' brother.
Would still be a handy addition to Ango, and if he is interested it must mean he senses 'another' premiership....bit of a flag hunter?
If Ango have an import spot (and he can venture that far from the beach), he would make a difference for sure.

From what i've seen of the SFL Kurtz his A grade days are over, no matter what league he decided to play in.

Surely if he was a flag hunter he wouldn't have left Willunga after going back 2 back there in their first two (knowing well and good it was the start of something big). ??? Nice dig. But way off. For those of you that don't play 'on the ball', 'him' is me, and i'm not interested.. just thought i'd stir the pot a little more as it's run of the mill on this site. My 'A' grade days could be over, but only by choice. Motivation is definitely a problem... 80.17 from a pocket/flank in the 06' MV flag and another heap in 07' tells its own story Speccy. Do u have credentials?
On a lighter note: You land-lovers can have ur pigskin, people close to me know what floats my boat. I'll take Surfing for 500 thanks Alex.

Had heard Kennedy was off to Victoria for football.......
If you want to grab your kneecap back before you go AK, I think it is still in my hip and/or kidney.
Was gonna keep it as a souvenir and use it for inspiration next year.
80.17 Deemu? I would've dobbed 20.77 from those opportunities.

Just a quick question for you learnered fellows.

Will Anton Geradis attract any points for South??

The rumors I am hearing has South paying out a sh1t load of money on players (who in all fairness are only average to good).

But you know what they say - you pay peanuts - you get monkey's.

Does that mean if you pay lots of peanuts, you get bigger monkey's or more monkey's

Gerardis would strike fear into exactly zero defenders in the BL & G,
Much easier to stand in the hole in front of a little bloke.
Would be a reasonable foil for a big target but definitely not your focal forward.
Keep trying South, you amuse us all. Becoming the Washington Generals of our league.

Stewie, Your right there about Geradis. He needs to get the 3rd best defender if he is to be a valuable contributor. Also needs an enforcer type up there to look afetr him. Anyone know how many goals he kicked last year and where he played?

Not something that needs to be said really... Why would south want to have him back now when they refused to take him as an import last year!!!

Who was/is the toughest player you blokes have played with or against in the BLGFL?
I'll start off by throwing Kym Hermann into the mix.

Cella Dwella wrote:Hello all! Im new to this caper but have been having a read for a while. Sounds like you are all sick of the"Sponge" story but could someone enlighten me as to what it is all about. I reckon I have heard plenty of President bagging but dont know the story out at Barossa Districts.-Sorry to dredge it up when evry1 seems to have had enough of it. I live in Pirie and this smells very similar to the way Central Augusta recently treated one of their past champions in Port Augusta!(SGL footy.)

Basically story goes like this as I see it. Sponge a nice guy, not the best football but good club person and has been at the club through most of its bad times and was an assistant coach during the resurgance a few years ago took over the job after back to back premierships. Took the A grade to a grand final in his first year with a team that had 5-6 changes from the year before. Lost to a team that was close to unbeatable that year and was undefeated. last season club lost 8 players from grand final side and at the start of the year during recruiting a descision was made between the club and sponge to blood some up and coming juniors rather than recruit heavily and hence have a year or 2 rebuilding for the betterment of the club (not sponge's coaching record) Just after half way through the season an ex AFL player aka R James approches the club and expresses his desire to coach in our league. He had a contract on a house between barossa, gawler and tanunda. The descission was made that R james was appointed coach for up and coming season based on the following reasons.

1) his experience
2) potential to recruit players
3) change from existing coaching staff which had been implementing the same style for the last 5 years.
4) with his profile ability to increase sponsorship

Hence sponge resigns effective mid season and the club deteriorates from then on to end of season. Clearly hard done by but to some degree for the better of the club.

sorry for long winded story but hope this is clearer for you.

and plugger think even if occa was in charge and was in his 5 year and at the same ladder position think he would of been put out to pasture 2.

Razzman, JAMES will be awesome for the club....however I cant see how a club, in consultation with their previous A Grade Coach put recruiting on the back burner to develop their kids coming through....good idea and something other clubs should take notice in as recruits will only get you so far!!
However then JAMES comes into the equation and the goal posts are shifted...I feel sorry for Sponge....if a club and Coach make a decision to re-build for 2 odd years then they need to stick to it, no matter how hard it gets....

pacman i too feel sorry for sponge but i think there was prob only 1 or 2 coaches safe in the BLG if 'james' had approched any other club i dont even think current premiership coach would of held james out. I also believe the decision to blood the juniors is great for the club. and will benifit the club in the future. Unlike many people on here who think barossa could only win a premiership with large numbers of imports i think the core locals will keep this team going strong for the next 5 or so years.

most of the comment here are around the mark, however this issue remains that Sponge was out of contract and was told 3 weeks prior to leaving by John Wills that he was reappointed for season 2010 with a handshake, only then to be told that James was coaching...I have it from a good source that John initially denied this and after a heated meeting with Chris Gill, was cornered and confessed.

Cella Dwella, if you want to know how Sponge is going, go to the Adelaide Plains League. He is coaching out that way.

Barossa will be looking at using it's locals this year ( 3 imports) so It will be a hard season for them this year. Have been told that some of the players that are coming up from the 17's will leave if they don't get in the A's team. They are not happy with the B's coach. I don't know who it is so if anyone has the name of the B's coach could you pass it on.
If I see it I say it.

When will the BLG return to it's former glory?

Bit of a joke league these days with only one or two decent teams.

I remember Seelander saying it was close to div 1 footy after he was sacked from Broadies to go to the Donnies. Ha ha ha, doesn't he look silly.
