Mount Compass from memory have never been the 'easybeats' of the competetion. In 06 they made the finals and finished fifth while last year they had a great year but after finishing top 3, they went out in straight sets. This year they should be top 3 and are likely to be one of the grand finalists (along with Strath and Creeks). They are coached by Steve Samuels (coached Murrayville to a flag or maybe a couple?). They have a good even group of players. Marcus Burdett, Maxfield, Bailey, Cheetham and Webb have been some of their better players this year. They just developed youngsters and got a couple of key recruits as well. They also play very well at home.

I see that Yank had Freeborn (of Kanagroos 96 premiership fame) and Groom (of Adelaide Crows fame) suit up. This would have been a big boost.

The Freeborn listed in the Sunday Mail was actually "S Freeborn", so if not a typo, its more likely to be Scott Freeborn, younger brother of Glenn. Glenn was the Kangaroos premiership player in 96, and Scott was recruited to Port's AFL side in 96 to play in their inaugural squad in 97, and was later recruited by Carlton. Scott isn't actually that old, i did a search, he was born in 78 so only 30 or so.

Could be some controversy from the Saints v Compass senior colts match. Its been processed as a draw but we a fairly certain its a mistake and we won by over 10 points. Time will tell, they had some serious issues with the scoreboard all day out there. We thought we could bring the scoring in to farming terms to simplify it. EG. 32 head of cattle and 4 gravity fed bores = 11 goals 10 points etc.

On another note Compass actually called for a player count in the B's! First one I've seen. They called it at a stage when they had the game won and they got it wrong. Wasted about 5 minutes and gave us a free. In general they had some problems with counting all day. I can see the AFL interchange system on the horizon!

Biggest upset in the gsfl in the last 20 years i reckon.

I heard that whilst LIMB did actually line up in the Creeks 'A's, he never actually made it off the pine and onto the field during the match and that is where the Creeks may have lost it although Yank having some Big INs for this match combined with a group of the creeks younger brigade having a 'Few tooooo Many' thursday after training may have had more to do with it.

Senior colts processed as a Draw?
What was the Goal Umpires Verdict? Pretty simple really. Did they Disagree? scoreboard has nothing to do with it.

no news kappars. But it is a mistake. JJ I know its the goal umpires, but the official scores that get sent through to Kev Curran can be written down incorrectly. After the game there was no mention from anyone that it was a draw

After all the talk last week re ruckmen ie . Stringer v Webb and Philp v Steele what was the outcome LF and Cuzzy. Certainly respectable losses - if there is such a thing - by both Bays and Saints. Also no Portlock for the D's?? Couldnt believe Yank downing Creeks - some big questions will be asked at the Creek and it does look as though Yank might have an influence on the order of the final five with some big ins. Big loss for Victor will probably hurt them later on, unless Strath can do similar to Bays next round.

Watching the Demons play the Bays I thought Philp didn't do too badly against Steele. Steele was definitley too big around the ground on boundary throw ins, but in the middle Philp wasn't disgraced. I don't really remember Steele getting that much of it around the ground too, so an even match there. Blum was okay when thrown into ruck but didn't do it for very long. The back up ruckman for Willunga was pretty ordinary. I did notice young Portlock missing from the team, what was his story?

Possibly Portlock was attempting to escape playing on Scott Brown?

willunga were a very hard working and very well drilled side with a bit to much height around the ground. I dont like winging about the umpires but 5 disgraceful decisions gave free kicks to willunga which resulted in goals. I was listening to the coverage on the radio while watchin the game and it was fair to say i wasnt the only one thinking that the umpires were the worse we have seen at the bay for a long time. I think most people will agree that watched the game the score line was not as one sided as it suggests.

To willunga's credit in both grade b's and A's they are very disiplined and stuck to the team rules exceptionally well. I heard a funny joke aswel sitting in my car, a couple of younger blokes next to me were saying portlock was the mark cosgrove of football, got all the skills but just to porkey. Was quite funny, why wasnt porters playing anyway? anyone know?

Webb v Stringer,Jared and Kuss was a good battle. Webb won a majority of taps which was precdictable, but our on ballers read him very well. I would have given Webb the points for the tapping side of things but probably wasnt real effective. The most impressive thing about Webb is that he understands his role in the team and does the job without fuss.

Cuzzy, I would have to agree with you that there was some shocking umpiring going on in the game, but I would have to also add that some of those goals you mentioned were given away from undisciplined acts from the Bay players. As frustrating as it is to have a free kick given against you when it shouldn't have, giving away 50m penalties won't help any team. I reckon I would've seen at least 6 50m penalties given away from Encounter.

Good morning lads good to see ur all still as friendly as ever

Totally agree on Webb LF. Against us he certainly did his job, dropping in front of the forwards admittedly a lot easier to do at Mt Compass than most ovals but did it with no fuss, and is definitely one to watch in the future as hes only gonna keep getting better.

Burdett to play Association this week i hear. Hopefully the side shapes up well and the GSFL can give the RMFL a good run for there money.

Still no answers as to why Portlock wasn't playing!!! Encounter too far too drive to???
My guess is he walked out the front door of his house and found Scooter Brown already waiting for him and simply turned around and went back inside!!! \:D/
The only time i've ever been wrong...was when I thought I was wrong!!!
