words of wisdom wrote:Disappointing loss yesterday after fighting it out for all but the last 15mins of the game. Plenty of positives but you play to win, not admiral losses. Plenty of turn overs from both sides but there was a lot of pressure on the ball carriers. Brazier took a massive hanger - the kid is going to be very handy in a few years. Interested to know Yank Mans thoughts.

I thought Mypo were very good at shutting down our run and yes it was pretty hot in close. Our 6 unanswered goals after you got 8 pts in front 10 minutes in to the last 1/4 probably showed we probably had a little more belief. I think it was what? 6 goals apiece at the final break so it was a bit ordinary to watch to be honest. Durdin out from full back to in the ruck turned the game big time in our favour. Thought Hughes was very good back and JB's hanger was awesome. Reckon you guys have plenty to work with and have some depth with some youngsters in the B's that could develop. We're a long way off our best and still have a few to come back, but as everyone knows, points will keep us from fielding our best team each week. :)

Don't think his attitude will fit in with Willunga's culture! The kid doesn't care about winning...just how many kicks he gets!

I thought that was the Vale, Havent dipped into their pockets for years and wonder why there not in the top tiers of teams fighting for the flag, Local talent only gets you so far, with the likes of some of the prized recruits this year, might see the Vale fighting it out on the bottom.

So your saying that because the club doesn't go spending thousands upon thousands of dollars a year on recruits, that no one cares about winning?

IM sure that not the case, the guys certainly are triers, but in order to make the team more competitive and place them up in the top echilon of team I would think this would be needed. What would you spend more on Cameron as a coach and have half a dozen decent players with a handful changing between A and B Grade every week, Seems a waste :o

Im sure your narrow minded call on Braden Altus leaving could cause a debate as well, as I think he is quite a team player, in which will probably be a good inside player in a more competitive side. Im sure that if he was playing for himself a few of the willunga lads would sort this out.

Seems as though there is a High Turnover of young fellas at the club??? A few of the lads I have spoke with aren't too happy with the Culture down there...Natale, Altus, Hearn, Caesarowicz, Motillo to name a few of the guys in which have Left for one reason or another

I think you will find that he was going to retire from football and focus on his family.
But due to very very personal reasons he is playing at Porties in respect for his good mate.....thats all that really needs to be said about that one.

that is a good reason, and fair enough as well. Most guys change clubs for reason in that sense, I was more focusing on the lads in which have come up through Juniors, getting to seniors and then leaving.

I think $$$ was the problem with Natale plus he wanted to play with a mate at Porties.
I don't think it reflects a culture problem...

WIW24 do you agree with local players demanding $$$ from their home club?
I don't think you can buy premierships either. Tell me how many clubs have spent $$$ and haven't won the flag.

Not sure the reason why Atlas has decided to go down the road but I heard he wasn't happy with the amount of game time he was getting?? Pretty sure he got a good opportunity from the Mclaren coach.
Maybe he should go play for Hackham he will get to play every minute of the game on the ball?

Is there any loyalty in football anymore???

I'm not involved with a club in the GSFL but Ive just heard a few rumours from a few mates around the traps, and was looking for some answers, not meaning to offend anyone there Moose22.

some fair points there moose but im still wondering why they would hire Cameron and then keep there local talents with no real big name recruits?? Also on the Altus story, when you are a young fella would you want to be on the ball and then go forward or back to have a rest not benched all the time, sounds like his coaching style reflects maybe his SANFL experience which may not be rubbing off on a few of the lads. Good Luck to teams throughout the year, Im tipping Willunga and the Bays to be in the GF this Year.

I know it's early in the season but I'm after some local knowledge.
I'll be in Victor Harbor over the ANZAC Day weekend and would like to catch a game of GSFL footy.
Any suggestions on the best game to go and see.

Gary Cameron is doing a fantastic job at Mclaren so far he is teaching a team style of football that will and is slowly changing the culture of the club. Some (not all) of the players that have left have done so because they are not happy with just being a member of the team and want to be treated differently. Gary has been fair and honest with all the players at the club and all are aware of the expectations of putting the team and game plan first. Some of the younger players in the past were wrapped in cotton wool and protected the ones that have stuck around have showed great character and attitude.

Yes Mclaren fell in a hole in the last half last year but they did play in a final which was a good start for a club searching for a new direction. Its ok to be haters if you want but we should be encouraging professional approaches and developement of clubs not bagging them out for trying to grow and change their culture. Mclaren have been down a long time and its going to take a huge effort from the whole club to become a consistant competitive side.

I wish all sides a good start to the season 2013.

Others more involved would probably be better qualified to advise, but having a look at the fixture, it appears as though Victor is playing Yank at Victor Oval that weekend (27th). Both tipped to finish in the top 5, would be the best game probably.

..also the local derby is on the Thursday 25th at Langhorne Creek, against Strathalbyn..
