In the SFL once a juniour player becomes seniour you can hold him or her for two years.

???

What is the rule?
Meaning that the club can stop them from leaving to another club?

Don't really agree on that. Can't stop a player from wanting to go to another club

McLaren will retain their players if they can make the club an enjoyable & fun environment. Thats why people play footy, have a kick then have a few beers with good mates.

I have spoken with both Herman Lucas and Kevin Curren on this issue and our President has brought it up at an Association Meeting.
There is some thing being done.

The fact that juniors going to another club are no points has made this a sensible way to recruit.
Myponga which have had a very poor record with juniors, (mainly because it is a very small town with not many juniors in the town)
could approach the 3 top juniors from Willunga, Mt Compass and McLaren Vale and get 9 very good footballers, attract no points.

Offer them $50 a game and get 9 Footballers all who have played A grade this year for $450 a week $8100 a year
These Kids would be happy to play for nothing at their local club

I agree, recruiting other clubs juniors is unethical and the clubs should not approach these players. U will always get the odd 1 or 2 kids who go play with there school mates at another club. We have all lost and gained players through this.

However the top 3 players from these Under 17s teams will not make you competitive with the likes of Willunga, Strath and Langhorne Creek A grade. Tell me what sort of influence the best under 17s had when they played A grade? I can only think of 2 kids (i could be wrong) that played well when we played them. Benn Crate looks to be a good talent and will become a top A grade footballer in future years and Joel Garrett for us had a super year when promoted to the A's. Any others that you believe next year will be in the upper quality A grade players?

BJ
Don't forget that there some of the best end up at South Adelaide
I think we will have 8 of our juniors invited to South u 18's

It is not so much next year but the 2 years after when they become very important
There is a couple of Giants that played in Willungas 17's this year.
in 2 years time would you like to see them at McLaren, Compass or Pongy
Off the top of my head thes went from juniors straight into A'S and if Simon hadn't been cricket inclined who knows
Willunga
Mitch Portlock
Simon and Paul Roberts
McLaren
Ryan Crockford
Ryan White....Straight from 17's and played in a premiership
Elliot Schneider Straight into the A's and has only played 2 reserves games
McKinlay in 2007
Compass
Webb

So not many go straight into the A grade and make a significant impact. By 21-22 the late bloomers plus the kids that were guns in juniors have become men and are ready for the standard if they are up to it. Thats when i believe you see the quality of player someone can be.

No i wouldnt like to see any of our juniors go and play elsewhere, other than to a higher level of course!!

Yeah but i dont get that super*. U leave the club who has invested a lot of time and effort into you throughout juniors just to play with mates. Seems like a cop out to me. Or it might have something to do with the fact that these 'so called' sources of yours think that it would be easier to get a game at Pongy.

That's the great thing about a forum, we all have different points of view \:D/

As I said earlier, I know it happens, it's just sad when someone who has played all their juniors at a club and then leaves that club and goes elsewhere. :(

But in the end it's their own choice O:)
