Drama - M Thomas, vickers, gabb, bell, lynch, linke and wilky (is he playing again this year?) were brought up by dent. I think you are right that comer is the only new bloke this year.

Great that all the players you have mentioned have come/returned to the club for various reasons. Has made his recruiting a lot easier.

Yeah, they are all products of Dent, and all returning, bar Wilky. I was suprised when I noticed outta all the new blokes out there this year that only one was bought to the club by Dent.

Dent must be feeling pretty lucky.

Jason Marcs? Is he another player from the Mallee league? Haven't seen his name mentioned on here previously.

DRAMA you tosser you don't reckon Dents background may have helped in these past players returning?????. May be Dent new that muffy, coombe, sumner ( if he gets cleared ) were going to TB. Then you get a few more jump on board at meet the players day in Rankine and Kropinyeri. Then you have guys returning from last year in M Thomas, vickers, gabb, bell, lynch, linke and these guys you forgot to mention Radis and Robertson, that Dent has got back or recruited over the past two season. Then he recruits comer a player that Tailem needs and you may need to see how many points all these players will take up. Also you may need to find out how much of the budget is used in these players. I don't think Dent will be feeling lucky I think he will be excited with what he has to work with as most locals this year are fair dinkum as well

Hey I'm not saying that Dent wasn't aware that the players were coming back, and I'm sure if they weren't, he would have brought more down. He can only do so much with the amount of points he's got, so he's gotta factor that it.

I'm not knocking Dent at all, I'm just saying it's great that blokes want to be there!! It's fantastic, because you can be assured these blokes aren't just rocking up for a pay check and are locals which means Tailem can look forward to good numbers out on the track 2 nights a week. And I'm sure the reason the Kruegers and the Hogarths and Gregurkes, those type of young players actually decide to stay for free is they are happy with the coach.

Comer sounds to be an exellent pick up!! He's done well there. Not alot of room for any more recruiting really, with point allocations. Don't be so defensive.... I'm not saying Denty hasn't done a good job.

DRAMA the way you wrote it you made it sound like Dent hadn't tried getting any new recruits??? Not getting defensive just saying it the way I read your posts!!! I dont know if you are involed with TB or not, but this could be a really exciting year and a chance for TB to play a big part in the finals after missing the last 3 years

I never mentioned he didn't try, I merely was making the point that these blokes coming to Tailem are from around here, and good footballers at that. I don't suppose it would be easy to retain the blokes Dent brought down last year, when I suppose they could play closer to home, and played in a team that wasn't successful, so he's done a good job with that. That was the problem with Smelty toward the end of his time at Tailem. He didn't recuit the type of guys who wanted to stay around the place. But to his credit, he did bring alot of quality to the club as well.

I am an interested on-looker, are you involved in the club at any capacity?

Hes a wingman/ half forward type very skillful and good decision maker. Very cool under pressure slotted one through after the siren for us to win the game in 2007.

Spoke to a bloke from Mypo (in the know) on the weekend who said that Wallfried signed a concrete 2 year contract last year, so maybe not so misleading
Wish it wasn't true tho as both would be handy in the Black & White,

very handy indeed both signed and training well with the mallee magpies

So what happens with the contract thing. I guess the Magpies will have to pay it out or something???? Could become an expensive exercise on top of what he is getting with Match payments

I noticed on line that the Standard have started their pre season write up on the various clubs.

The Meningie write up:

http://murraybridge.yourguide.com.au/ne ... 36088.aspx

Not that insightful really though, no mention of recruits of anything, just that they want to put last season behind them, and that they are hoping to make the finals this season. Realistically though i think it will be just as difficult for them to register some wins (unless they get a big influx of recruits) given that the other clubs aren't likely to drop by much, and some are likely to improve.

Wayne Gilgen would be definetly a non playing coach. He would do very well under normal circumstances but I believe Callington do not fit this criteria.

Wayne comes from a family of cousins, uncles and a father that have coached succesfully throughout the Riverland and Mallee areas over 40 years.

I know it's early, but anyone wanna have a crack at how the the '09 ladder might possibly end up??

Just for a bit of fun, too early to really tell...

I reckon:

Imperials
Tailem Bend
Ramblers
Jervois
Mannum

Mypolonga
Meningie

Yup, I'm tipping last years Grand Finalist to stuggle to make finals.

A lot of people seem to be tipping imps. I hope they are right. With Seyers back it allows Harrowfield to move into the midfield. Also should have Puckridge for the full year and the Kenny Brothers should make a fair bit of difference. Hope these all make enough difference to allow us to be successful again this year. We have waited along time.

I heard Big Comer was out on the track for tailem last night, and is looking to be a very mobile ruckman which will help pat gabb out alot. Alsoheard that Tailem had over 40 senior players training last night. very good numbers considering it is still only early stages of pre-season.
