GWW - KillerWasps told me about the passing of Budel. A talented player by the sounds.

He was, he reminded me of an old fashioned type of footballer, and an old fashioned type of bloke.

Hank was a great footballer.
Loved a good time - I have memories of him and David "Chooka" McCarthy smoking at 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 time breaks. They were a superb ruck and rover combination along with Greg "Grub" Jarrett as Ruck Rover. Just couldn't seem to beat Mundulla when it counted.
Hank was apparently living in Keith at the time of his passing and all mourners were asked to wear their Football Jumpers/Colours to the funeral.

Yeah, when I watched more country footy in the late 80's and early 90's, that was reasonably common. I don't see as much country footy now, i suspect it doesn't occur as often now.

Re Hank at Bordertown, it would have been great if they could have been a little more successful. I watched the 96 grand final which was at Bordertown, Mundulla seemed to have a psychological advantage over them, Leighton Collins ex Victor Harbor played well that day.

The other thing i recall about Bordetown in the mid/late 90's was the emergency of the young forward who was later drafted by the Kangaroos - Lindsay Smith I think it was. He could take a mark. Likewise James Bury who was a strong forward and played a handful of games at Glenelg and I think he finished playing up in the NT.

Stumpy Hunter was another character in that Bordertown side.

GWW wrote:I hadn't heard the sad news re Hank Budel. I recall when he was the player/coach of Bordertown in the mid/late 90's. David McCarthy was playing there then, and is probably one of the better rovers to play country footy over the years. Unfortunately they (Bordertown) could never seem to beat Mundulla in the big games.

A few blokes named, such as Harkness and KennetTt went on to play for Border Towns Tintinara when the merger happened and they went into the RMFL.

I had the "pleasure" of playing (and rucking) against Hank in the early 90's and he was one tough man. Most ruckman at centre bounces run, jump and spring off one another but rucking against Hank was like going up against a Mack Truck - you knew he was coming at you and coming hard - every time!!!!. He was tough, passionate and uncomprimising and would have been the first picked in any Association team.

I too didnt realise he had passed but I suppose now that he has gone upstairs they can put him in ruck and move God to Full Forward. A very belated RIP Hank

Was the score line from Naracoorte v Padthaway expected by anyone ? Huge disappointment for Padthaway. Did they have a lot out. If not there would have to be some big questions asked.

Lincoln Sharpe was an absolute gun.
Originally played at Mundulla then played 2009 at Kingston with brother Casey.
Broke his leg pretty badly late in 2009 and hasnt played since.
Was very quick and athletic and took huge hangers on a regular basis!!

I was chatting to afew of the Kaniva adelaide recruits last weekend..
Theres a group of about 7 that have already been offered to sign up for next year. But they are going to see how the rest of season goes and could be all on the move next year to another club possibly Bordertown with ex coach of Kaniva John Jarred now playing there with strong connections with the kaniva adelaide footy recruits . They all want to stick togeather as a group, So it would be a handy package for any Club who picks them up next year as they would defiantly make a massive difference to any club. Good Luck to them boys, but alsogood to see the Cougars finally doing well this year aswell.

The guy had a bigger bag of tricks than Hando Hanson - awesome snap for goal then let fly with a torp on the run from 60 - brilliant!

Reeves very impressive saturday while Baxter managed to kick 5 goals from 4 kicks - truely amazing effort from a guy on one kidney.

From the results Keith have struggled for consistency this year and have had a heap of injuries to key players from what I hear (Redden was one, broken leg I think). Have watched them a couple of times this year and they weren't too bad both times. They had a really potent (and tall) forward line, with Mcentee, Snajdar and Makin and some real goers around the ground. They lacked a little bit of class overall though aswell as a ruckman (killed the game) and a key defender to give them some stability down back (appeared to be a very young defense).

Padthaway Reserves beat Kingston on the weekend to notch up their 2nd win of the season and lift them off the bottom of the ladder for the first time in 10 1/2 years! Their 3rd win in six seasons and they are now on a roll! lol.
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!
