This week they sound a bit light on with a few under injury clouds and still with work commitments Victor could be the surprise package and come out first round with a very handy win over the creek at the creek. Will Lee Saunders suit up against his old side this week as I dont believe he has played creek at creek since departing and could be very handy in the middle for victor if creek are light on.

Hey Kappars, your not the Craig Hutchinson of the GSFL by any chance r ya?

Strath looked like a quality side yesterday! They haven't made wholesale changes, but they have added Burgess up forward who takes some of the pressure off Duffield, they have got an extra big man down back (Allen possibly) and their new ruckman looks to be a very good player. They look to have the extra components to challenge Willunga. As for the Saints, deep down a loss was expected but not to that extent. As mentioned last week it will be the Saints depth thats the problem. 7 out of our best side yesterday and the guys that came in are not A grade players (me included). We will need a major turn around next weekend.

Just on a side note it was very interesting to see so many new faces at Strath but only 2 players on the team sheet were more than 1 point players. Burgess is interesting. I would love to know his history and how he is a 1 point player after getting cleared from Broadview. Is he an ex Strath junior? Has he been out of the game for 2 years?

7 out is very hard for any team to cover especially if the B grade isnt too strong. I was surprised to see such a one sided result but its only Rd 1 so plenty of time to turn things around. Myponga pushing Mt Compass also surprised with many people expecting Compass to improve is it Pongy that are the improvers here??

I have never felt so old on the weekend. 26 and I was the oldest in the Saints side.

LF, some experience is what is missing at the saints. A bit dissapointing first up loss, but there is plenty of footy left in the year to get things right. How did the new boys go?

On another topic, did manage to see some of the willunga, mclarens game. Willunga absolutely smashed em. Looked massive and very quick. Cant see too many teams getting close to them this year.

New boys were the only ones to have a red hot crack. Todd Russell and Yeoy worked hard all day, and the Wilson boys battled hard without much result. I am looking forward to Puds' return. The local player award was interesting. I couldn't find anyone to give votes to.

I think the final score was around 30-16 to 3-4 or somethin like that.

Genovese, Thomas and Ryan top 3 players.

Ryan 10, Hams 6, Portlock 4 and then a few 3s and 2s and so on. We played the style of football we wanted to play and the result took care of itself, the challenge is this week against the creeks at home. They had a good first up win over Victor and we expect a much tougher hitout than what we got on the weekend.

Haha Brock, the thought didnt cross my mind but there were definitely a few consumed in town Saturday night for Groomys birthday!

Was fortunate enough to see glimpses of the compass v mypo game. very scrapy first half with mypo stopping any compass run. Mypo struggled with fitness and were unable to keep up the intensity after half time. By all accounts Compass were missing 5 very good starters so i am asuming we haven't seen the best of them yet.

I saw some div 7 amateur action between Flinders Uni and Paralowie @ Thebby Oval. Pretty ordinary standard. Paralowie's ex-Peake players were standouts.

BJ,

Did any Mclaren players get more than a couple of touches?

Is Ryan the new bloke for you boys? Heard he's a big boy!
Have already heard that McLaren have put in a request to the League to restrict Willunga to only single figures in blokes over 6 foot tall next time they play! Anyone would think you guys had a basketball team on the field!!!

interesting you say that panther, was talking to some league officials and umpires on sat at the bays game, bit of a push to remove willunga from the gsfl and into the SFL or a stronger competition. I personally and i am sure a few other players dont mind playing them for the challenge but would be interesting to see what happened if clubs starting boycotting the league by not playing them.

Good on them for recruiting well and having good junior development i say, this season will tell all though, if they thump everyone by 30 goals they might want a league change to get a challenge.

Bays looked good on sat, yankalilla wernt good but they wernt as bad as what everyone expected challenged a little early in the first quarter but bays to strong for the rest of the game.

Brock, you have to actually get your hands on the ball to get a touch, let alone a couple of touches! Willunga looked massive, Ryan will be too good for any full back in the league with the delivery that he gets.
McLarens looked ordinary, but im pretty sure there will be bigger beltings than that dished out by Willunga over the season....

We will not thump everyone by 30 goals this year i can assure you of that Cuzzy, every week is a challenge and im sure this week the scoreline will not be anywhere near that of last weekend. The comp is not that bad, and sadly we are not that good to do that. We played very well on Saturday night, and had a fierce attack on the ball and finished off with good disposal.

Surely as a club and a league you want clubs to rise to the challenge rather than try and peg the competition back. This notion that its time for Willunga to move to another league is surely just small talk with a bit of banter attached. Were they having the same conversations when Victor Harbor were more dominant than we have been in the 90s?

Willunga have fantastic depth at the moment, and will do well because of this. However it does not mean that they will dominate forever, with guys like Thompson, Genovese, Hams, Thomas, Ryan & co in there 30's, can their young guys step up to take over once they leave?

Watching the pongies v compass game, pongies missed 2 goals early in the last which would have put them in front instead of down by 8 points, then a 'shocking' 50m plenty and goal to compass broke it. Pongies ran out of legs and Compass kicked the last fews goals to seel the win.

thats what i was thinking, as i said i personally dont mind the challenge and alot of other players i know dont mind it either, i mean beating you blokes last season was awsome for the bays. but it was interesting to hear a few officials talking about it on sat and wasnt the first i heard of it. I personally hope nothing happens as wouldnt mind beating you in a grand final. Plus as roo32 mentioned, it wont be long before some of the older blokes are just having a kick in the magoos each sat.

To be honest the last 2 years we have not been DOMINANT. We have been one of the top sides and ended up winning the Grand Final so the fact we are winning the last game in September has not reflected the way the seasons have panned out.

The creeks have won more games than Willunga in the past 2 years, will sides boycott playing them? Will the league ask them to play in the River Murray League??

Every club has its ups and downs, players will retire and move on and with the list getting a bit older we have some good young players coming through, in the 2s and under 17s and hopefully these players do fill the void that will be left behind when they retire. Some exciting challenges ahead for us.
