He got injured acouple of times during the season and missed a few games, still had a reasonable year though, think he finished 3rd in Centrals B&F.

Not an AFL trend - Im fairly sure this has happened plenty of times in the past in country football. While i have no idea whether your rumour is true I do think its a good idea in the right circumstances. 1. The club culture and coaching direction is going well with the 1st coach before passing onto the "apprentance" and 2. If you have the right man to continue things along.

1. Good work SGL.About time though. Other leagues have been doing this for years. Geez we are groundbreakers up here arent we Ken! Now finally we can get rid of the Port Augusta team of the Year which has been a second rate, coach nominated thing so often without some of the best players anyway! (This should have died when the PAFL and the PPFL officially merged a couple of years back should it not?)

Interesting to see how it will get picked.
Wonder how different the team will look from the SGL game vs Whyalla, to the one picked at seasons end.
I could probably have a bet to say that last years runner up in the medal, would not have been picked.

Does the SGL Team of the Year/Medal, now become an invite event to ensure all 21/22 players picked are there.
The PAFL have at least had 18 or so players attend to make the night worth while, would be dissapointing to only have 10 or so attend.

If so, then it becomes a good night to bring the WAG's.
I would assume that the PAFL night stays, as it was originally for PAFL Hall of Fame the reason to start the event.

The only fair way to have a SGL team of the Year, is by having a player vote (prob won't happen)
Coaches selections are worth 5 points, Player selection worth 1 point.
Players are only able to voted for in specific positions.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

Is Bronte likely to make A grade though anyway?
What is the background of some of the new names 7 Dog ? (Barrett,Dallaenzo,Thistleton) I know about Schmidt -He stood on our street corner under a red light too!

Bronte has indicated that he is wanting to play A Grade, living in Roxby makes it hard.

Barrett is a Police Officer who has played for Birdwood (HFL), has played seniors before, but his last 2 seasons work took his time away from training and fully committing, only played 10 or so B Grade games last year (6 in the best).

Dallaenzo is also a Police Officer, who hasn't played for 2 seasons. He is a small ROCK of a man, yet to see him have a kick.

Thissleton has moved around a bit and had stints all over the place. He mentioned to me that he was at the AIS when the guys his age were trying to make it, he is 27.

Lachlan Barrett's dad played for us in the late 70's & John Dallaenzo has become good friends with Michael Heron.

The point system is such a grey area at the moment it's really a joke.
My understanding was he comes from another League and therefore when he plays A Grade he will attract 3 points.

But now, I have heard that because the majority of his games in the past 24 months are B Grade he is worth 0 points.
So Schmidt may end up being a 3 pointer rather than a 4.

There is also no mention of what happens in season 2012.
If a player is worth 3, then in 2012 he is 2 and then in 2013 he is 0, because he would have played 25 games.

This needed to be cleared up in NOVEMBER!!
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.
