with the recent meetings at karoonda there could be applications to join the league coming in from a range of clubs and areas next year??

wouldnt that make the RMFL feel almighty and powerful to have all those clubs want to come and join our super league!! :prayer:

but you are correct goldy. it makes for a much more interesting comp when there is not top three powerhouses and then everyone else. its the most even the comp has been for a while.

What do you guys think of the umpiring in the RMFL? The reason I ask is that I've played in 2 games in the Mallee League this year that have been umpired by RMFL umpires and have been very disappointed with the standard in comparison to our usual 1 umpire supplied by each club. I'm talking about players getting tiggy touchwood over the shoulder free kicks and then someone getting their head crunched when it's over the ball and being called play on. Any thoughts?

yeah you are pretty much right their brock. from what i have seen this year that seems to be the trend of the umpiring in the comp. they are obviously trying to improve the games but it seems one week they will pay very close attention to one rule eg in the back, and pay about 50 free kicks for it. then as you say, someone goes in hard for the footy, gets their head taken off and its 'play on'.
then the next week there is only 2 in the back decisions and it is something else they are focusing on.
i guess when you have the national comp doing exactly the same then its no wonder they are following suit but it must be incredibly hard for the players to work out how they are 'allowed' to play on that given day.

saying that though umpiring would be a very challenging thing to do and i take my hat off to all those who get out there and do it. the RMFL has been having a big focus this year on verbal abuse on umpires and it seems that pretty much nothing is being tolerated by them. even abuse from the sideline is ending up in free kicks. This has to do with a few umpires retiring this year and one of the reasons given was that they were sick of being abused week in and week out.

Yeah it's a tough job, I appriciate that and I'm not trying to umpy-bash. I was more surprised because I think I was expecting a higher standard than what was delivered.

Didn't see the game, nor have i spoken to anyone who saw it, but judging from the results i'm thinking that Tailem had a few out (No Raidis, Bell, M Thomas or Lynch included in best players or goalkickers), so i'm thinking thats why they didn't put in a better performance.

Looks like the final 5 is settled as far as who will make it, its just a matter of the placings.

Onto this weeks games:

Ramblers v Jervois - the match of the year, no doubt, with the Bluds hitting form. The Chooks will want to maintain their dominance over Jervois this year, and i reckon they can win this with too many options up forward. If Trevor Rigney kicks double figures the Bluds will obviously be a chance, but i reckon Ramblers 31 - 40.

Mannum v Imperials - Imps will be very keen to get back on the winners list, but won't be easy at Mannum after the Roos hit some form last week. Imps with just a fraction more class, 21 - 30.

Tailem Bend v Meninqie - probably Meningie's last chance for a victory this year, and they'll be desperate. The Eagles will probably be a little flat after the game against the Roos last week, but they'll want to win this as any win is important for a young up and coming side even if they probably wont make finals. Tailem 11 - 20.

Interesting; obviously supply is the concern here with Ramblers forwards getting more GWW?

Harrow definately out this week, got his 3rd Yellow last Sat,(which was not worth a yellow) so unless Hodge & Hines are back on deck, Mannum should take their chance & beat Imps

Ramblers match Jervois in the midfield, but probably have 1 or 2 more options up forward compared to the Bluds eg. Jackson, Morris, Girardi and Dougall. The Chooks have managed to beat Jervois by about 10 goals in the 2 previous clashes this season. Jervois would no doubt be capable of winning, but on this season's form, Ramblers would have to start favourite.

Yes all of these players are still out, but we still feel very confident going into this weekend and think we can get over the roo's hopefully the wind is a bit better this time, other outs for this weekend will most likely be Blake Harrowfield, In's that i have heard of so far are the 2 under 17 boys. Shaun O'Brien played against taliem bend and kicked 2 goals if im correct and another 17 makin is debut Ben Trenordan i think it is, both these kids show some good skills in 17s hope they make a mark in A grade like other juniors have around the RMFL this yr

Beeching gives the Bluds another tall option up fwd, something they didn't have last time the two sides met.
Bluds lacked the strength in the guts, if they can match it with the Rams through the midfield & win there fair share of the ball, that'll give blokes like Rigney & Beeching every chance to kick a winning score providing its entry inside 50 is quick.
The Ramblers were good at that last time & had numerous options up fwd that made the most of there opportunities.
Looks set for a thriller between the top 2 & i hope its not a one sided affair like the last two were.

Ramblers will be hard to stop, but Jervois have topped up nicely with Beech & Woody. Their forward line looks potent now!!! Who will stop Trigga??? They say stop the supply, stop Trev, but The Panthers will still get their fair share of forward movement, & if he's 1 out, that becomes a very dangerous prospect.
Pantha32 will dominate the Ruck, so I give the Panthers a big show here!!!!

denty was away interstate i believe..so they were coached by the assistant..may not have helped having no coach there

Without the players mentioned it wouldn't have mattered if Ron Barrassi was coaching them last sat, they would have got beat. But i do hope he had a good reason, in what was their most important game of the year to not be there! Knowing denty I'm sure he did
