agreed gimp... i sure dont remember nairne beating birdwood a lot... if ever! considering how badly country div is going, lets be honest here gum, cally both on the verge of folding, blackwood without a side anymore... looks like birdwood we're the smart ones and got into a decent div while they could!

so the country division has two struggling clubs... fair enough.... but all i was getting at is the top 6 maybe seven teams are definately closing the gap between country and central divisions.
how have birdwood benefited at all from going up except thats they had the asses handed too them every week, and i cant see that changing much this year..
the thing is raz7 that by birdwood going up and been guaranteed 3 years up there they have blocked kangy, meadows from going up without a major conflict within the hfl with bridgy/lobby etc

I think you'll find that Birdwood didn't go up to div 1 looking for short term success and we'll only know in a few years time whether the move was successful.

Birdwood went up in 2007 with pretty much the same team as they had in 2006 in div 2 because they were unsuccessful in recruiting over the break.

They've recruited much better over this break and think they would've closed the gap and I don't expect they'll get the beltings they received last year.

Only time will tell.....

I dont think Gum's are even looking at that, they have been very proactive during the off season has indicated in the courier a few backs. I also believe they are planning some other initatives to be released very soon.
Care to elaborate on the new initiatives? Pimping more players from SAAFL?

Yeah, that's the one. Very apt description. He visited the club I was involved with in his high powered car, trying to sell himself for $300 a game (over 10 years ago!). Promised he could win a game off his own boot. Then he rang back that night to inform us he just couldn't do it as he had cow-shit all over his car when he got home, when there aren't any cows up our way!

I suppose all this Mitchell stuff just reflects the gap between higher clubs and lower clubs in Country Div. Anyone who's been involved with struggling clubs would know how hard it is to generate any interest in coaching positions, especially 'A' Grade. You get very few applicants and as such you take what you can get and hold your head up that you've got a coach. Promises are always big lures for struggling clubs and I guess Maccy's no exception. Maybe clubs just don't ask enough about applicant's past history.

Agree with the angry man syndrome. I still remember the day I told Mitchell in should be riding in the 5th at Flemington. Got himself all round up and went in to self-destruct mode!

Well.. Where there were last year Scorp, what do you expect a club to do? continue to get belt by 15-20 goals every game?? If you dont have the players to be competitive, then you need to bring some players to help you. They are no different than every other club who are recruiting players to help them? TV have done very well over the years, in pimping players?

What alot of people need to understand is that country Football clubs are a fragile enviroment, with mixed personalties and if you go a couple of years of getting flogged, you will find yourself with players departing, retiring or generally cant be bothered becuase they ar sick of getting smashed. I think what Gums are doing, is atleast trying do something positive for themselves as no competition can afford to lose clubs.
Everything is fair!
