I know that McLaren are playing Happy Valley in one trial, no real new recruits except for Hentschke coming back from a year off with a crook back. McLaren will be hoping that he'll be right to add a bit of experience to a young list, but I've heard that he hasn't improved as quickly as anticipated. Put on about 10 kilos too. Now he doesn't look like Monty Burns!!

Are there any other teams playing SFL sides in trial games?

L Creek V M/Vale
Willunga V M/Vale
Mclaren V H/Valley
Goolwa V Cove

Be interesting to see who wins these matches and the margins.

Good post on the Bays BJ, but really everyone and I mean everyone in the GSFL even locals at the Bay were very critical of the AMOUNT of players brought in and it should not be condoned. Yes I know it has been said enough and it seems Bassani has learnt and now understands the comp better and has a greater respect for it. The standard is great in the GSFL and the local boys are better than most that came in.

TC I think I know who you are now and your not helping with your misguided posts.
You've contradicted yourself already, suggest you button up if your actually from inside the Bay!

That is a bit of a tantrum. I am only saying what I think FM and i do not think you own this forum.
If you read my comments properly I believe the Bays will be better under Bassani in 08 simply because he has had a year under his belt and fully understands the comp. Also it is well reported the younger boys are out on the track and training harder this year than last. Please do not get too precious, it is a long season.

Morphies will thump the Creek, Willunga if the game is taken seriously, which means Steele rucking and close to a full complement playing, may get up in a close one, Happy Valley will beat McLaren by 8 goals and Cove will belt Saints.

Willunga will beat Porties by about 5 goal, Morphies by 7 or 8 over creeks, Willunga by 2 goals over Morphies, Cove by 8-10 and Valley by 8-10.

Compass will beat Cove. Compass will climb higher than most clubs reckon in 08. Burdett still hasn't signed with South, yet is doing a big pre-season. Early prediction - Compass v Willunga grand final in GSFL, Strath to finish third again and the Creek to slide to fourth being Kingless. Saints could snatch fifth, if Victor do not pull off the recruiting coups thay are trying at present.

Losing Bayliss, Princi and Stokes are huge holes to fill and they finished 6th with them. Doesn't matter what you say about Stokes he still won the Bays games last season off his own boot. They would not have won those games without him. So it is hard to read how well the Bays will go in 08. Could be the same 6th or 7th.

Yankalilla trying to sign 3 players from Canberra. Jobs at the links Golf course in the package. But its all coming or no deal. Only another 25 to sign to make the side competitive this season from what i have seen on the track. Steve Lewis has a real job ahead.
What is the future of this club.

Yankalilla will be OK, as long as Steve Lewis is at the helm. One of the most passionate coaches going around on and off the track. It was a stroke of luck for the club when the coach quit last year, as it turned to a positive for the Tigers. The points system will be a major player for Yank and if they struggle the GSFL can take the blame because they have flirted with a healthy competition and are now trying very hard to stuff it all up. Real footballing people continue to ask WHY?

WHY?

So that clubs focus on developing/attracting juniors and don't do ridiculous things like spend time and resources looking to recruit players from interstate! (anyone heard of South Adelaide??) Local players generate local interest and support. I think a lot of you blokes are taking a very short term view of the points system.

Good answer GA, but in the case of Yank they ran out on the gound with 12 Reserves players last year and topped it up with 8 senior colts. Do you really think that is healthy. Their cricket team has forfeited in A and C grades and definitley need an injection of players for their football club. Some of the players they attract may not be good enough to play A grade at another club, but will at least give the side numbers. I think Yank juniors didn't win a game in 07 and in 06 may have won one. All I am saying is the points system does not help a club like that to rebuild and amazingly they were one club that voted for it.

One big problem with Yankalilla is their total lack of winning culture. There are kids coming up to senior footy and have only won 5 to 6 games of footy in 6 yrs of junior footy. As for the cricket club its been stuffed for yrs. Its a shame their best players are Whoppa and Dave Wenham, great players 15 yrs ago.
Steve will give his all but with a committee that couldnt give Yankalilla greastest player in Greg Whit any players or support, were are they heading. Hopefully they arent the next Pt Elliot .

Several pages ago, Yank were linked to a KI club (players coming over to play). Maybe this initiative that was spoken about is not such a bad idea.

Re Yank and KI players. I heard last season they got one player over on a short term clearance (It must have been) because the KI season starts later than GSFL and so he could play the first 3 games then went back over back stairs to see out the rest of the season on KI

Sport in Yank:

A total of 2 senior teams in tennis for the whole Yank/Normy area . This is for both Yank and Normanville tennis clubs. All the way from Cape Jervis, along the Range Road towards Victor and down to the towns of Yankalilla and Normanville they can only get a total of 2 teams. They have approx 4-5 junior teams between them.

No junior cricket teams
No senior cricket teams
Yank Junior and senior Mens Hockey team struggle each week to get numbers. Some ladies have to fill in in the mens team. The ladies aren't too bad for the numbers but the cycle will turn soon and they'll struggle.
the soccer club has just started up last season and had adequate numbers in the juniors and to a lesser extent the seniors but I don't know about this season.
The football club has struggled for numbers for a number of years.

IMHO: Lack of pride and self respect amongst a lot of the community and I'm not just talking about the sporting clubs. It's left to too few to do all the hard work.
Success is in trying
