When do you count a player as a South player? You surely cant consider Beeching as a South Adelaide player? Can you name the seven? I bet you Mex cant...

Nah your right FIL, it is hard to leave it alone. I just think its a bit of a shame thats all! A shame that the Panthers cant think of a way to get better, or to change their game style for different opponents, without recruiting yet another high profile, high $$$$ player.
I mean Ramblers have been smashing teams all year, yet got done last week
As previously stated I dont have a problem with paying players, but when is it going to be enough. At some time you just have to back your list, & find a way.

Plus its all a bit of fun on the forum. Would still have a beer with you guys anyway

Two games very clear cut
Ramblers to beat Meningie by 100+
Imps to beat Tailem by 41-50
Mannum v Panthers may be a little closer Jervois by 21-30 & if the new guy Beeching plays 31-40

I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag too early Tues once i heard of the signing to be.
Very well done to the Bluds leaving some points up your sleeve incase of an emergency.
Lets hope it pays dividends for that 5th flag.

That really is incredible that they'd feel the need to recruit another forward after getting Woodhouse back. I really can't think of any other club who'd do that after winning 4 premierships in a row, being 2nd on the ladder, and already having about 14 outsiders at the club.

So are you saying that if you win a premiership then you shouldn't try to add to the team the following year?? Ramblers, Mypo and Imperials have all added to their teams yet we're not allowed to??? What a crock of shit!
Jervois lost Baxter and Hill who were replaced by Baylis and Beard, so realistically Beeching is the only addition and seriously if you can recruit players who have played for South then why the hell not!!!

Panther, most clubs when they've won 4 in a row, wouldn't be as desperate to win another premiership, than they are if they haven't won one for 20 or however many years. I just find it incredible the Bluds feel the need to recruit more players given the amount of players in their ranks who wouldn't be classed as locals. They already have a good squad capable of winning a premiership, and some good forwards with Woodhouse, Mahoney, and of course Trevor Rigney, plus Lalo, why would they need to go and spend another $300?? or so on another player?

I think those other 2 teams have recruited heavily because they know they have to to keep up with the quality of the Bluds' squad.

I'm not saying Jervois have done anything wrong, i just find it hard to believe why they'd see the need to go out and recruit even more.

I think you need to look at the big picture though...
To start with, Mahoney didn't go out and recruit Reid. Reid is mates with Ewer and Zac asked him if he would come up and play at Jervois. He said yes...would any team so no to this bloke?
Two, the club is trying to create history this year, why not add another player if you can? The Bluds are still under their points allocation so if they wanted to they could add someone else.
And finally, imagine the pressure Mahoney would probably be feeling and be under? Takes over a team who has won 4 in a row and is a rookie coach for a very proud and successful club. Sam wants to win!
Look at Willunga, they recruited Steve Ryan when they have David Hams up forward and they've won 4 in a row, but that is ok?

I'd say Willunga had a very high percentage of locals though. They didn't have a sudden influx about 4 years ago with 8 or so players, and then maintain (and probably increase) the same amount of recruits over the next 4 or so years . Willunga's squad was built up gradually, and supplemented by very good juniors (interesting to note the Bluds u17's are one of the leading teams this year and have been for a while now).

And regardless of who the guy is mates with, it would still be the club and perhaps the recruiting committee who would decide whether or not to recruit the guy, unless i guess existing players were prepared to take a pay cut to pay for the new recruit's match payments.
