Spies tell me there were players walking also if Nelson STAYED. It was part of the reason the committee made the decision. It seems he may have polarised the playing group.
Some loved him, some didn't. Some of those which left after last season did so because of him.

no player would have walked with 5 games to go if nelson had saw the yr out.

Hopefully RJ has an A Team of mercenaries coming with him and a 5 yr plan because there won't be much left to work with by the sounds of it.

Your right Pinchy. I meant they would be leaving at the end of the season. This comes from a couple of players actually.

With Roger James, and maybe some new(old) guys coming with him,
Surely it would be premature to pout and leave the club when the change
could put Barossa right back in the premiership mix.
Regardless of loving Nelson or not you would have to feel like a fool if you
left and they won a flag.

They would be foolish to hang around thinking that roger james is the answers to barossa's prayers and he will perform miracles in one season. i can't even see why he would want the job in the first place.

One thing is certain - he will need their best site to park his caravan because he's going to be spending a lot of time there picking up the pieces from this fiasco.

They have a reasonable side at current, add 3 or 4 prime movers and they are in the mix,
Hardly a miracle.
You are right though in the sense of how severe this 'fiasco' is will determine their ultimate
success in the next season or so.
Could be a storm in a tea cup.
Heard that Site 4A has been thrown in as part of the deal to get Roger to Barossa,
hope it doesnt get washed away before he gets there.

yes well true i guess they could always try buy their way out of this one.

surely a loyal servant like sponge wouldn't turn his back on his treasured bulldogs unless he had really been torn a new asshole by the people in charge down there.

the club could have shown him some respect... a lap of honor on the back of brown 76 valiant in the last round versus willaston would have been a fitting tribute for the big guy.

Was the 1976 Valiant a 4WD?
Maybe half a lap on the outer side would suffice.

This weeks tips:

Freeling v Willaston - Leggies been improving but may struggle without Mensforth.
Centrals v Angaston - Panthers will struggle to keep up with the tigers fresh legs
Barossa v South - Who knows in this one, if the Bulldogs have got 5 out South might get themselves one more win here for Herzick
Nurioopta v Kapunda - Tigers easy win

Fresh legs wont make much of a difference in the centrals v angaston game..

also nuri v kaunda game will be closer than you think

Yes, I feel a little sorry for the old Sponge.
I have met Sponge a few times and appears to have his heart in the right spot and a nice bloke at that. Sometimes nice blokes come last.
Most coaching reigns end in tears at some stage, leaving with a bitter taste in the mouth.
One has to question the timing of the decision. Even if Barossa had no intension at re-appointing Nelson, at least give some bullshit excuse to let him see the season out. Instead they are going to finish the season off as a rabble.
The upside to the early exit is that Sponge will be on the market early for 2009.
As the great Deryn Hinch would say "shame, shame, shame" on the Barossa executive.

It is disappointing at this stage of the year that Barossa would put ripples through their own club. They obviously never saw themselves competing in finals. I do hear however they put a mighty effort in today but fell short of South in the end. Is Roger James gonna make a difference in 2010?????? Well time well tell..............................

She's a nasty game this one. No doubt Sponge will have something to offer someone, be it within the BL&G or another league. I’m sure the enquiries will be forthcoming.
Only meet Sponge on the one occasion and in that brief encounter, he appeared to be enthusiastic and a student of the game.
To his credit, he also has an excellent win/loss ratio to support his resume.
Lets hope his ass can recover from this incident, as there was definitely no lube used on this job.
No doubt he will bob his head up somewhere soon, and will have a point to prove.
Good luck to the Sponge.
Are you prepared to pay the price? WILL YOU PAY THE PRICE?

Zoolander’s Donny's slamming the hapless redleg’s by 12 goals, with Chadwick putting 9 through the big one's.
The Lions got over the coach-less Bulldogs by 11 points.
The Barossa Tigers only managed to get up by 12 points in a scare from the Bombers.
Match of the round bragging rights went to the Gawler Tigers by a 29 point margin over the mighty panthers.
What an interesting day it turned out to be. In an effort to get a good park to watch the game, I decided to park my car at the gate the night before to avoid an influx of Gawler Central supporters.
After eventually getting my park and being mugged overnight by some Gawler juveniles wearing Black and yellow jumpers, I was set to watch the match of the round.
At half time I decided to head over to the bar and get a beer, before I got pick pocketed.
After the game I went to go back to my car, but to my surprise, my Mercedes Benz had been stolen.
It was eventually found in a back street at Evanston torched. The only thing that was retrievable was my "Brenton Bascombe" supporter badge.
As far as the footy went the Tigers were very good in dismantling the undermanned Panthers. The Tigers ball movement and ball handling was slick and left the young panthers wanting.

Pinch Hitter.... Can you confirm if Seelander and Koch have yet commited for 2010. I know that Seelander spent a few years at the Den in his illustrious playing days. Would he see this as an opportunity to go back to his roots or is he required for 2010.
Alternatively, it may be an opportunity that Koch can break his umbilical chord from Seelander and go for the main job.

That's excellent news for Willaston with some real direction for the club.
Has Koch signed yet for 2010 or is he a chance at the main job at South Gawler?

I dont recall Bain or Pech getting a BOG in their 1st 5 games of a-grade footy. Molyneaux is an absolute gun, its a shame we wont see him again after this season, he will be drafted when eligible.
Wanting allright, wanting to be as good as us. As i have said before, the Milky Vivian coaching school has it all over Seelanders B grade student!

I did make a concerted effort to watch your young guns.
Molyneaux was definitely serviceable there is no doubt about that, but I believe that it may have been a token gesture.
His influence on the game was not within the top ten Tigers players IMO.
With reference to your message last week, young Hewitt did have a good turn of pace and will be a good player, however he did burn the ball on numerous occasions and something he will need to work on.
Once again to be talking these kids in the same breath as Pech and Bain is far away at this stage.
If Moly is to be drafted, why is he not playing in town at the moment. I though that this would be his best opportunity to be drafted.
Did you steal my Mercedes Benz?
