Am hearing the same but will the captain and his fellow teammates be able to handle the commitment and discipline required to play under Alan stringer???? Not sure going overseas midway through a season would go down too well!

Maybe thats what they need discipline.

See the SA countrys most unsuccesful long time coach ever has lost the Jamestown job and former coach Mick Redden will be taking over the reigns next year, watch the wallet open there, former players will come flocking back to play under a decent coach.
Which gets me onto the current Solly coach, is he knocking on the door as the runner up to this guy, coached senior sides for best part of 12 years and has had two GF appearances but zero wins, probably had one of the best sides on the park at Lions 2 of those years and failed to make the GF.

Well when his own son is captain and decides to go on a holiday midway through the season, it doesn't really set the tone for the rest of the team does it?? Can't see him giving many sprays or instructions that would sink in with the playing group.

Sounds like the same guy who struggled a bit as coach of Northern Cities in the country championships

Rumours are rife in Port Augusta about 2014 coaching changes at West and Central. Any predictions?

Sollies lose to second bottom side today. Have the wheels fallen off?? From what I'm hearing too many self labelled superstars just happy to take the money and run and not give two hoots about the result. Disgrace if true. Feel sorry for the lads that actually go out and give it their all week in week out. The coach/captain must surely be removed from their positions.

No vendetta just stating facts as I have done all along. I got a mate who plays there and I'd like to see them win and go well in finals that's all. Was just saying that what's happening at the moment obviously isn't working and maybe they should get someone in who can get to most out of this particular playing group because there is a fair bit of talent there.

Vacancies will become news but I can't say diddly squat until after the finals. One guy up there in PA has a big target on his back. A certain NAFA outfit is circling....

Coupla close ones on the weekend to kick off finals. I think Lions will fall out in straight sets and if so it will be strange driving to Pirie to watch West v Central in a GF. Also heard the Lions coach refused to shake Dean Steeles hand after the West/Lions game

Ports have given Brett Ireland his marching orders, which kind of belies belief, there are far greater problems there than the coach, Damien Mellow has been asked to apply for his job at BSR, so could Ports be targeting him? Is he the right person for the job? I understand he does want to get back closer to Pirie.
Ports paid a lot of money to finish last, but then again Sollies paid a lot of money to finish 4th!

B grade 1st Semi was a nailbiter too - extra time needed!
The Finals scheduling has dealt Lions a rough hand this week but if they are good enough to get through they gain some advantage in the Grand Final. I agree though that Central would be favourites in this weeks game and it would be strange watching two Port Augusta teams play off in Pirie.
IF the Dunkley / Steele story is true BG it's likely Dunkley would have justifiable reasons. He is a quality person.

Lions being dealt a rough deal has been a problem in SGL finals, just because the GF is in Pirie, the Prelim shouldn't have to be in Augusta. West/Central in Pirie will be different, but back in the early 90's I think it was 91 Central played South in Pirie.

Finish 1st host the final, finish 3rd host the final. 2nd Semi loser host the Prelim final, 2nd Semi Final winner host the Grand final.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

The reason the prelim is in Augusta this year is that originally it was Pirie's turn for the prelim & Augusta for the GF, however as I have been informed the Central oval redevelopment has meant that the GF is in Pirie, which also was meant to host the prelim (if a Pirie side was in it), however the clubs got together at a league meeting a few weeks back and the three Augusta clubs and sollys (go figure) voted for it to be in Augusta, while Ports & Lions in a rare union voted for it to be in Pirie, now one could argue Ports had no real vested interest in this, as their U/18 side are the only ones competing in this years finals, but please explain to me why Sollys would vote for the prelim to be changed to Augusta??, as it turns out it does not affect them anymore but they were not to know that a few weeks back, surely they would have rather played in Pirie this week (if they had won).
Prelim's and GF's are only held in the designated town IF there is a participant from that town in them, the only time this has changed is in 1976 when it was Port Pirie's centenary year and from memory West & Central played in the GF at Pirie.

What happened between BI and Squids management to cause his sacking?

Story is board asked for him to commit for three years, BI said he could only commit for one, so they said they would rather pursue someone who could commit long term, citing the current crop of good juniors coming up through the ranks need a stable league coach for the next few years as they transition to senior grades.
A reasonable request, IF that is the reason or is it just a cop out??
