Going on that precedent, two seems right, although both would be lenient in my opinion, although I did not see the Bruggemann incident, just going on what I've heard about Tyler's injuries.

The prescribed penalty system is a country football cop out to avoid proper and fair tribunal. Video cameras cost SFA and there should be one at each end of each game. $1k investment by the league tops (about a one week return for some players). Verbal evidence is worth squat as people lie through their teeth.
Footage would at least kerb the more moronic actions. I wouldn't put Gus in this class based on Saturday - but he would never have done this in the past two years. And if he did, he would have been handed plenty.

And while I'm on it, guess who are the worst perps of the country football antics ( albeit it is better than before ):
Not the players
Not the league/rules
Not the umpires ( for not being able to 'control' thugs )
Yep, just the club left. They pay them, they support them, they defend them.

Sorry donk - I can't agree on this one.

So you're saying if there was video evidence of the above incident, the penalty would be worse?

I think video would deter/provide some greater evidence (as is provided/captured)

Let's face it - prescribed penalties do not deter. Having seen various systems about, prescribed penalties is probably the least affective. Video is cheap to produce.

Here is thought - for about $200 a match (Bugga all in a clubs budget). A wide angle drone can hover over a game and get the whole game in picture.

Shoot me on this one, but technology is not embraced to protect players. Funny how views change as you get older...

Before he delivered the hit he kicked him while he was on the ground, 2 does seem lenient.

This was a separate incident about a minute before he elbowed him. Not many people saw this including the umpire, whilst intent was there, the contact was very minimal (although a kick to the head behind play is still a kick to the head)

Prescribed penalties were brought in as a way to encourage umpires to report players. Previously if an umpire reported a player they then had to go to tribunal on a Wednesday night which is obviously a time cost to the umpire which they don't get rewarded for. By introducing prescribed penalties it means the umpire doesn't need to sacrifice a Wednesday night (if the umpires don't turn up to produce evidence and be cross examined then the report can be thrown out).
This on principle I agree with as it means the umpire doesn't have to commit anymore time into the suspension of a player. Its not the umpires fault a player strikes another.
However some instances still should be referred directly to the tribunal, this would be one of those.

Witnessed a similar incident with this individual in a Grand final a few years ago thinkin he has issues

If this is all true surely he should have been called in to the tribunal.

Didnt United move Drainer on because of that incident? Mallala as a club wouldve hated what Gus did, maybe he will be playing elsewhere next year??
