Nah not Greg. You missed Alan McKay!

Yeah, I'd hate to see them worsen, you kinda feel for them as it would be hard to attract players, pretty much like United though given they have such a small township.
Does anyone know the approximate populations of he towns in the APFL regions?

Yeh because I bet they were feeling sorry for all the teams they used to beat by over 15 goals over their 8 year period of success

You mean during the honeymoon period following the Pt.Wakefield - Hummocks Watchman merger MH. :D :D

Bloody long honeymoon period if you ask me, SD.

It means that like in every other league in the State, occasionally clubs make mistakes by recruiting and paying good money for, what are apparently top quality players and people, that don't end up performing or putting in the effort required to have a REAL impact in the big games, i.e. Solly. This happens at every level of senior footy whereby money is involved.

That said, it is clear that the clubs that are consistently playing off in finals every year are the ones that seem to be able to hold onto their "top echelon players" for extended periods. While the one hit wonders simply can't.

Based only on what I've heard:
Virginia - haven't heard much but think they would be around the mark again. Would expect them to make the 4 but would not be surprised if they just missed out due to a log jam
Two Wells - again challenging for the four, another team that could be in a log jam. Depending on recruits could be right in the mix
Mallala - my pick for the flag at this very early stage
Hamley Bridge - big sliders with a mass exodus of players. Bottom two
United - big improvers with a new coach and a few big recruits to cover their losses. Another team that could be fighting for that last spot on the 4. My smokey
Balaklava - will punch above their weight and should challenge for a spot in the 4, although I dont think they'll challenge for the flag
HWE - big impovers from last season, though I don't think they'll make the 4 (more than happy to be proved wrong)

Impossible to say with any accuracy at this stage of the season, but looking forward to another very even year on the plains

What makes you think that Hummocks will be "big" improvers? I hope you're right but have I missed something?

Picked up a couple from Kingston in the SE, as well as the return of favourite son Matt Higgs

Once the clearance's open I'll tell ya the rest of them! Plus the two priority draft picks we got in Buzz Taylor and Tait Nottle, and second year under the belt of Josh Appleby and Tom Rowe and things are looking much better this year. Rumour has it some ex premiership players will be making a come back this year to add some depth (and a shade of grey), so the Reserves should hopefully experience a win or two this year on the back of that as well.

speaking of grey hair, how's your preseason going Swamp?
