Jason Pope like so many talented footballers doesn't like training to much and prefers to run around in the B grade.

I hate this statement...

Most blokes would never PREFER to play in the 2's unless your 30+ and already 'been there, done that' in the A's!
Most blokes who choose to play 2's generally are afraid to make the committment to play in the 1's incase they are not as good as everyone tells them they are!

I don't know Pope so this is not a go at him, I'm having a crack at the statement.

you're right he would be, pope couldn't make it to every training due to work and traveled away couple times this year but he was very happy playing in the two's. More then likely playing a's next year
Jason is very intense trainer when then first you to rock up and last to leave, sooooo dont know where this doesn't like training is coming from? :S

I think you are saying the same thing though aren't you?

There are plenty of blokes all over the country who would rather get 30+ touches in the B's each week than have to work hard to get 15 touches in the A's.

Some may say a terrible waste of talent, others may say big fish small pond. Others may call it lazy. Some guys just want to have a kick with their mates on a saturday.

Many, many different reasons for this

With Echunga hoping to stay up, but being allocated 9 points I am interested to know how they think they will hang on to all their points players from last year and recruit more....

They just won the premiership, not sure minimal A-Grade recruits will cripple them

Probably need to expand on this.

I am one of Popey's biggest fans, but I have always been frustrated by the fact he could have been one of the best rovers in the A grade competition for many years but for what ever reason has chosen not too.

For those who don't know him, I would describe him as similar to Adam Jennings of Echunga.

Its a different culture at Blackwood too. Lots of blokes like Popey just want to play with their mates and refuse to go up to A's.

Probably explains why they have a ton of B's and C's silverware, but nothing in A grade for 20+ years...

From what I saw of Jennings in the finals I think it's harsh on Jennings to put them in the same category. Jennings would've won the HFL player of the finals series, if there was one. Pope is a great player, but he is not in the same class as Edwards (mail medalist), magarey, Myles, krakoeur or catford who he was competing with for a spot in the A grade.

Jason played his first A grade many years ago and had an immediate impact. The issue is he has chosen to just tread water in the B grade for years now and that is how he is being judged.

Adam Jennings is a champ on and off the field. Troy Edwards and Paul Magarey have held Blackwood's midfield together for years. But I stand by my statement if Jason Pope had committed to playing A grade for all the years after he first broke into the ones, he would have forged a reputation as a top flight rover in the HFL.

Great player, loves to party and have a few drinks. Massive sign on fee and being paid extremely well for a 19 year old, no wonder he left south. Should've been drafted two years ago but I think his attitude got in the way.
